Summary:

Sophia has always wanted to be an entertainer. In fact, she spent her whole childhood slowly working towards making that future a reality. With everything going to plan, she gets chosen as one of the twenty girls from thousands of applications to be a part of Dream Academy. There, she meets five other girls that would join her through to the end, in becoming Katseye.

What she doesn’t plan for, however, is falling in love.

Over the course of her teenage years, her twenties, and into her thirties, Sophia is in love with one woman. It is something that, unlike her meticulous plan for her career, she cannot control.

Sophia’s love for her bandmate, Daniela, is both her sanction and her undoing.

 

The spiritual successor to "Didn't Mean to (Love You)", but can and should be read as a standalone.

[Notice] Important KATSEYE Update

July 1, 2026

 

Hello.

 

After a fantastic two years and seven months together, we have been deeply grateful for Sophia Laforteza’s contribution to KATSEYE as a performer, vocalist, and leader. Some extensive discussions have occurred between Sophia and HxG, and it has been mutually decided that she will be stepping away from KATSEYE’s group promotions in order to grow independently and pursue future opportunities in musical theatre.  

 

During her time with KATSEYE, Sophia has demonstrated exceptional professionalism, dedication, and care for her fellow members. Her presence will continue to be felt in the group’s foundation moving forward.

 

Sophia says: “My life with KATSEYE has been more than I could have ever hoped for. But, after a few years, I feel like now is the right time to pursue other avenues. I’d like to apologise to the EYEKONS if it feels like I have let anyone down, but I have to do what feels right for me and my mental health. I know I will always have five friends for life in Manon, Daniela, Lara, Megan, and Yoonchae. The life we have made together will always be our legacy, and I know they will continue to be the best girl group in the world.”

 

KATSEYE say: “We’re truly sad to see Sophia go, but we completely understand and respect her decision to put herself first. We send her all our love for the future. These past few years have been beyond amazing, and we’ve gone through so much together. We will always be friends.”

 

KATSEYE will continue on as normal without Sophia. Manon, Daniela, Lara, Megan, and Yoonchae look forward to the forthcoming activities for the rest of the year, including preparations for their first full-length album and tour.

 

In other news, we would also like to take this opportunity to wish Daniela a Happy Birthday. We hope that this year continues to bring you warmth, success, and happiness.

Notes:

I'm experimenting slightly with the plot structure of this fic, and like the idea of making it known what will happen, but not exactly how or why it happens. As you continue to read, I feel like it'll be fun (maybe for me, not necessarily for you) to figure out the easter eggs and the themes that will foreshadow this.

Just to note, this fic is CANON-DIVERGENT, meaning that it is influenced by real-life events but diverges into my own sweet imagination thereafter. While there are real-life events that are mentioned in this fic (such as the events of Dream Academy, the release of KATSEYE songs and EPs, and tour), my interpretation of it is completely my own and has been narratively warped to fit the themes I wish to explore.

I know the ideas of h*atus and d*sbandment are sensitive topics in our community right now, but I just think there is a sweet sweet tension and angst to writing it that is completely removed from the current happenings, and was planned as part of this fic way before the event of February, 2026.

I started planning this in December, 2025, which means I'm not too sure that I will really be incorporating any real-life KATSEYE events past that period, and will most likely make it canon-divergent from then on. if I'm being honest, I'm still not even sure I want to be writing about Manon's hiatus in this fic and I'm still considering that pathway. Either way, that's the beauty of making this fic canon-divergent! Pls keep that in mind while you read, and I'll let you know if I change my decision!

And, if you have, by any chance read my other work, "Didn't Mean to (Love You)", this fic is technically its spiritual successor! However, you do not by any means have to read it. In fact, if you have just read it, I recommend you leave a bit of time before you read this, as there is some temporary overlap in events. This is intended to be read as a standalone.
