Chapter 1: Saving

Chapter Text

It was dawn, far too silent, far too calm after nearly avoiding the dying experience on a mission.

Tomioka knew his body wasn't in the right mindset to be doing missions but didn't mean he had to listen to it, he didn't deserved to stand next to them. He wasn't worthy of being a hashira, he couldn't just cool it off and go get sent to Shinobu to hear her complaining about his health and recommending him to rest, he just couldn't.

He had to be useful.

His hands trembled as he looked at the demon in front of him slowly fading away with tears flowing his eyes, he couldn't care less about what it was saying as it parishes, his mind was only focusing on how tired his body was and the demon wasn't even a UpperMoon, how humiliating...really.

His crow Kanzaburo flew away from him probably to get some help and warn other hashiras that he might pass out just now with all the wounds and adrenaline, the air was soft, night had fallen long ago that he can remember, it was ironically comfortable how the wind was flying making his hair dancing in a peaceful rhythm, his sword slowly started falling from his hands because of the sweat and tiredness, giving in Tomioka simply made himself sit up on the grass with a quiet sigh of pain, he could feel a wet liquid down his shoulder, suddenly remembering the wound he slid his hands towards his haori as taking it off to see the wound, it wasn't that bad, just some blood going down his arm like tears because of the wound open through his shoulder, he can still move, so it wasn't a big of a deal at all. He made his haori peacefully lay down next to him on the ground.

Tomioka felt his eyes blinking slower and slower, feeling a little too at ease the sleep was inviting him every seconds of the minutes passing, But as he was about to pass out..

Thump! Thump! Thump!

Sounds coming from afar almost spooked him, he didn't have to worry, he knew it was one of the hashiras by the sound of those shoes hitting the floor in seconds, someone was running urgently towards him, was someone worried about him? No. it was simply manners, hashiras trusted each other, hashiras sticks together, fight together and take care of one another.

But he wasn't one. He wasn't the water hashira.

Obanai was prepared to return to the Mansion, another easy mission done for the night, that's what he would say to Sanemi if the other was here, but now? He was tired. He wanted to go back and sleep. He was on his mind, walking through the forest, it was quiet, almost too quiet, his hair was flying as they were given wind, on his thoughts he didn't paid attention to the crow coming his way looking rather...stressed.

“Giyuu!! Passing out- Mission!! Mission!!”

Obanai wasn't really truly worried about anyone other than Mitsuri, that was surely a lie he kept telling to himself, he wasn't the type to act on feelings, to acknowledge it, he was the type to avoid anything. specially if that thing was about another of the hashiras, But, hearing the other's name made him freeze in place, his eyes full of horror and for a second he imagined the worse. Even if he knew it was impossible for this idiot of Tomioka Giyuu to die on a mission it did cross his mind, but he sighed relief hearing it was just him passing out.

... stupid crow.

Of course.
Of course he had to be the only one available to help the mysterious guy, he didn't need to say words, Kanzaburo immediately flew back away where Tomioka was, confidently knowing Obanai was following....and damn it he was, he was following at a good quick speed.

After a moment of walking, or rather running urgently Obanai's eyes immediately placed themselves on the figure appearing from afar and he didn't had to guess who it was, injured, sat down, looking tired.

Tomioka.

He slowed down, carefully looking around to see if it was really safe, and it was, nothing in sight just pure wind and cold air, Obanai put his sword aside as he got closer to the other one,

"Tomioka?" no respond, the guy already passed out but damn it was a sight, Tomioka looked relaxed, his chest going up and down in a slow pace, his hair almost loosen, haori on the ground, for some reasons some of Tomioka's strands of hair sitting on his neck to his chest was too much for Obanai not to just take a quick glance. or two. or three. Quickly shaking his head to stop whatever the fuck was going on with his brain and stepped closer to him, noticing the wound on his shoulder, quiet open.

“Shit..."

It wasn't that bad, but it was scary looking, fakely annoyed Obanai rolled his eyes, cursing to himself because he realized he needed to bring the other against him to drag him back to the mansion, well. He took the haori first then carefully moved his hands towards the other, sliding one against Tomioka's waist bringing him closer and the other pulling him to his back making the other putting an arm around him, not caring about Kaburamaru's side eye glance.

This is going to be a long walk.
