Work Text:
A blinding flash of green light, one DJ had never seen come from Superfish's powers before, burns itself into his retinas.
Dj yelps and takes a step back. At this point, he's surprised nobody has seen them yet.
They were at a semi-abandoned park about a 10-minute walk away from Dj's house; a park that Superfish swore on everything they would find their next ingredient.
Apparently, he was correct. However, finding these godforsaken potion ingredients always comes with a price.
The light was so bright and hot that Dj himself felt like it was burning him about 20 feet away from the source, and he knew that witches were more durable than humans, but it had to be hard for Superfish to manage.
He was stopped right in his tracks the moment he heard a pained yelp tear itself out of Superfish's throat.
Fuck.
"Su-Superfish?!"
The teal light retracts itself back into the witch's hand as he grips his wrist tight, curled into himself on his knees on the ground.
"Nghh. . ." He groans, opening and closing his blackened hand to test that he still can.
DJ jumped, literally launched himself towards the curled up figure. He goes to place a hand on his shoulder before hesitating.
"DJ. . ."
His ears perk up.
"Y-Yeah? Yes? What's wrong, are you okay?"
Superfish turns his face towards the other, face drained of color and eyes drooped.
"I think I'm gonna pass out."
Right before the man goes slump, he disappears.
"Fuck. Fuck."
When they were first walking down to the park, Superfish's arms stretched and placed behind his head, casually dropped something that stuck with DJ.
"Hey, this might take a lot out of me." He starts, not making eye contact. "If something happens, I'm just gonna go to your house, specifically your room if I can, but who knows what'll happen if I'm unconscious?"
DJ pauses briefly. "Arun'll be home in, like, 40 minutes. . ." He mumbles, turning his head away.
"It'll be fine, I'll be as quick as I can. And hey, even if I do pass out, at least the distance is walkable!" Superfish grins and finally looks in DJ's direction.
"Why not your place?"
"Are you kidding?" He huffs a laugh. "Way too far. It's either you drag me back or I drag myself back." The witch shrugs once more. "Not that it matters, I'm not gonna pass out anyways."
DJ groans, looking at the time on his phone and the space in front of him, no longer inhabiting a green haired cocky witch. Arun will get home in less than 10 minutes.
He breaks off in a sprint, slinging his bag over his shoulder.
Huffing and panting, DJ stares at the unconscious Superfish at the top of his stairs.
"Really? Couldn't have been a bit more accurate?" He mumbles, tossing his bag through the doorframe of his room before sighing.
DJ puts all his strength into hauling Superfish into his arms and then gently drops him on top of his bed, taking off the witch's shoes and leaving him alone to go make some food.
He spots Arun while walking down the stairs.
"Oh, hey Deej. Are you okay? You look a little panicked, what happened?"
"Ah--! N-Nothing!" DJ waves his hands around in defense, suddenly very nervous.
"Is. . . Somebody here?"
"No! Uh-- No. No, why would you think that?" DJ could literally throw himself into a pit of fire. Literally how much more obvious could he be?
Arun chuckles before ruffling DJ's hair. "Whatever you say. I'm going out with a couple of guys soon once I wash up, okay? I won't be home until after work tomorrow, I plan to sleep over."
"No problem, just yell up when you leave." DJ offers a smile, to which his brother returns. He watches as his brother goes upstairs and listens to the shower turn on before sighing a breath of relief.
It's not 45 minutes later before he hears rustling from the bed. He's been sitting and doing homework on his phone next to the bed, waiting for the witch to wake up. His head perks up as he hears a quiet groan and mumbling.
"Superfish?"
"Mnn. . ."
"Are you. . . okay?"
"I-I'm fine. Don't w-worry," He offers a weak laugh and scratches the back of his head. "D-Don't know why that happened, haha, Uhm I can. . . Go if you need. You said your brother was coming home, ri--"
"Seriously? No. Lay down, it's okay." DJ cuts him off, slightly annoyed at the sheer stubbornness of the guy. "You're clearly tired."
"I'm fine! It was just a little much, I can go home."
"Lay. Down."
Superfish pauses, a slight tint of red creeping on his ears as he lays back down.
"Do you want any food?"
DJ doesn't know why he even asked.
20 minutes later, Arun yells from downstairs.
"Deej! I'm going!"
"Bye! Love you!"
The front door clicks shut and DJ feels his shoulders droop in relaxation.
"Now we don't have to be quiet," DJ starts, two empty plates of food laying on the nightstand. They're sitting side by side on the bed, Superfish clearly mostly asleep and not entirely coherent as DJ half-scrolls on his phone and half-pays close attention to the man next to him.
His hair had always looked so soft.
That was the only thought coursing through DJ's brain as he gently places his hand on Superfish's head, carding his fingers carefully through the green locks.
Superfish goes rigid for a second before melting into the touch.
Cute.
DJ watches as Superfish's eyes droop slightly and his head slumps against the other's shoulder.
He feels himself go bright red in the face and his eyes widen slightly.
"Su--" DJ cuts himself off, not wanting to disturb the witch. A small smile graces his face and he leans on the headboard, welcoming the comforting weight of Superfish.
And if Superfish wakes up two hours later on top of DJ, who is very much still fast asleep, nobody has to know.
And if this singular day had made the witch feel a certain kind of way about the human,
Nobody has to know.
