I Made Loving You a Blood Sport

Summary:

Brendon Park hates med students. They're clumsy, ill-trained and get in his way more often then not. Unfortunately he has pushed the duties of training students off to fellow attendings far more often then not and Gloria has decided as head of orthopedic surgery- he is in charge of the last round of med students for the cyclical year. Thankfully there's only one.

He learns quickly that she's more capable then even a few of his residents- with a knack for picking new skills up on the first try. She's phenomenal at her job and amazing with patients which is practically a miracle for someone with so little time in the field. Hell, most days Park only has the first part of that down.

But she's dead set on taking a residency with the emergency department.

And he's dead set on not letting go of a prize when he sees it.

Chapter 1: Prologue

Chapter Text

"This doesn't feel worth my time." Dr. Park sighed once again, moving one arm out of where they were perpetually folded across his chest to pinch the bridge of his nose.

"We are a teaching hospital and you're a department head. Teaching is quite literally in your job description." Gloria insisted, tapping a pen against the leg of her perfectly pressed pantsuit.

What he wouldn't give to see any evidence on her that she worked in a hospital and not an office building. Blood, spit, shit, literally any body fluid would do.

"I won't be able to help as many patients if I'm busy making sure some kid doesn't kill someone. Didn't you say she's only like 25? A first year med student! Seriously?!" He huffed, feeling dangerously close to losing his carefully procured composure.

"Orthopedics is her last rotation before she takes residency. She's some prodigy or something." Gloria flipped her hand back as if the details weren't something she was concerned with. She never was. "I have faith you'll change your tune after working with her."

"Oh great- so zero social skills? Probably great with the textbooks but gets nauseous at the first sight of blood? What am I gonna do when she sees a shattered femur and cracks like that?" He snapped his fingers, tapping his toe as he fought the urge to pace.

"At the end of the day- I'm not asking. I'm your boss, and you're taking her under your wing." She walked back to her desk, apparently done having this conversation. "Besides, every other attending she's worked with has offered her a residency in their respective departments. She'll be a great asset for wherever she ends up."

That made him pause for a moment. Every other department wanted her? At the very least he could see what was so special.

"Fine. When does she start?"

"Today."
