Chapter Text
Mydei didn’t have any feelings towards Phainon. Like seriously, how can anyone look at that guy and feel love? That Deliverer is annoying, loud, obnoxious, clingy, Mydei can go on and on. Yes, sometimes he is kind, strong, brave, charismatic, loyal, even…cute, handsome. Did Mydei notice the man’s thinning waist, the lean muscles, the breathtaking blue eyes …maybe, but still, he does not have feelings for that man.
He swears he doesn’t have any feelings for the deliverer…until now. It wasn’t love, it was jealousy. It started when the trailblazer arrived in Okhema. Phainon, being the social man he is, immediately befriended them, their energy matching each other on a level no one can understand.
They proved to Aglaea that they can be trusted, and let them be a part of the flame chase journey. This leads them to go on many missions, clearing the black tide and protecting Ohkema.
It was a known fact that Phainon and Mydei either do missions together, or alone, only bringing along another heir if they were needed. So when Aglaea kept pairing Phainon with the Trailblazer instead of him, something didn’t felt right.
He is always beside Phainon. They were always together, all of Ohkema knew that. They would spar together, go to the bath together, eat out or walk through the market together. They both enjoyed each other's company, Mydei liking it a little more than he thought.
He shouldn’t be feeling this annoyed. Afterall, it’s not like Phainon is his property, and it’s just a mission. It’s just a mission… a lot of things can happen on a mission. Mydei didn’t want to think about that.
Finally fed up, Mydei decided to speak to Aglaea, wanting to know the reason why he isn’t being sent on missions with the Deliverer.
He found her at the baths. “Lady Aglaea,” he greeted.
“Mydei,” she greeted back, her voice calm, “what brings you here?”
“Why aren’t you sending me out with the Deliverer?”
The demigod of romance gave him a smile. Mydei had a feeling that there was something behind that smile. “Phainon and the Trailblazer seem to be a good match don’t you think?”
Her words sounded oddly cryptic. “But why aren’t you sending me out with him?”
“Is there a reason why you want to be with Phainon so badly? Do you miss his presence?”
Mydei was starting to get pissed off at the conversation, “you're avoiding my question.”
“And you're avoiding mine.”
The heirs were at a stalemate. Mydei exhaled slowly, “fine. I do not miss the Deliverer’s presence. I miss the feeling of battle.”
“That shouldn’t matter. You just went to clear out the black tide two days ago.”
“You-“
“You seem to forget that I am the demigod of romance Mydei. I know what you cannot accept. I sent the Trailblazer to give Phainon a change of pace. To indirectly teach both you and him. Plus, the Trailblazer brings out Phainon’s energy and silliness. In this world, those traits are precious.” A golden thread moved around her, “if you like, they have just arrived back in Okhema.”
Mydei looked at her cautiously, “…I will. Thank you.”
Aglaea offered him one last smile as he walked away. Just outside of the baths, he found the white haired man…next to the Trailblazer. Seriously, why are they always together now? He should be the one there, not them. Mydei mentally paused for a moment… maybe he is jealous. The Deliverer noticed him, giving him a big wave as he walked over to the two.
“Hey Mydei!”
Mydei greeted them both, the Trailblazer giving him a quick wave before leaving to meet up with their friend, leaving the two heirs alone. “how was your journey?”
Phainon’s eyes lit up, Mydei’s heart warming at the sight. “It was great. We killed so many black tide creatures, I’m sure none will ever go there ever again. On the way back, partner and I even found a few chests. I kept this weird artifact,” he showed him a shiny gold artifact. “I plan to go ask lady Tribbie about it.”
Mydei’s heart froze back up. Partner?
“Everything else in the chest doesn’t seem interesting but partner seem to be really obsessed with this pink and blue crystal thing. They said something about wishing and saving? I didn’t get it so I let them keep all of it.”
As Phainon spoke about his adventure, Mydei zoned out, the word ‘partner’ echoing in his mind. The two went on five missions in total and now he is calling them partner? What!
Mydei has been with him for years and he never called him partner. The man he spars, cooks, and bathes together with doesn’t call him partner. But he calls them partner. That short circuited his kremnoan brain.
“…wasn’t much so we walked back here. Mydei? Mydeiii…Mydeimos!”
The prince snapped out of his thoughts, “what.”
The Deliverer looked at him like he was accused of a crime, “were you not listening to me?”
“I was” he lied.
Phainon crossed his arms in front of his chest, a skeptical look on his cute face, “recall what I just said.”
“You found a chest.”
“That was the first thing I said!”
“Fine, I wasn’t listening.”
Phainon scoffed before grabbing Mydei by the wrist and started walking towards the baths. Mydei’s legs aimlessly followed along, not wanting to get rid of the touch. “What are you doing.”
Without looking at him Phainon easily said, “going to the baths. I feel like we haven’t been to one in a long time so why not now. Plus I’m tired and a warm bath sounds good. I’ll tell you everything again so you better listen this time.”
“Sure.”
When they got to the baths, they both undressed and dipped into the baths, letting the warm water relax their muscles. There, Phainon recalled his adventure again, Mydei actually listening to all the details this time. Jealously flared every time he mentioned the Trailblazer as ‘partner’, but he kept it to himself.
“I miss this.”
Mydei looked at the Deliverer, thinking he misheard him. “What?”
“Your hearing sucks. I said that I miss this.”
“Miss what?”
“Being around you obviously. And you call me stupid. Lady Aglaea have been sending me on a lot of missions lately. I feel like I haven’t been with you for a while. Are you free tomorrow? We should spar.”
Hearing those words, Mydei’s heart softens as a smirk grows on his face. “A spar it is then Deliverer.”
Does he have feelings for the Deliverer…maybe. Is he jealous that the Trailblazer gets to spend so much time with him? Yes. But at the end of the day, the Deliverer will always be his.
“Mydei. I’m hungry. I’m craving honeycakes.”
Mydei flicked his forehead gently, “You HKS.”
