Acquit
You never expected it would end like this.
When the judge brought down the gavel and announced the verdict, you froze in the audience.
He had slipped through another legal loophole.
That night, drained and frustrated, you sat on your bed, turning over every possible plan in your mind. All the leverage you once had was gone. If you couldn’t send him to prison, then maybe you should just pack up and run.
The more you thought about it, the angrier you became. You resented your parents. They knew the two families were enemies, yet for the sake of profit, they still married you off to the only son of the opposing family without even asking you. The pain was never theirs to bear. In their eyes, even their own child could be reduced to a pawn.
To hell with this marriage—whoever wants it can have it.
You quickly packed your things and prepared to escape. But a hand reached out from behind, firmly catching your waist. You tried to struggle free, but the owner of the hand only pulled you closer, holding you in place.
A head of grey-green hair rested against the crook of your shoulder, his warm breath brushing your neck.
“Hey, hey. Running away from your wedding—don’t you think that’s a little disrespectful to me?” Lohen questioned in your ear.
“You went through all that effort and still couldn’t send me to jail. Not satisfied yet?”
“So you really don’t want to marry me that badly?”
“I don’t care! Let go of me.”
“And what if I don’t?”
“Remember this—after all, hatred lasts longer than love.”
“My dear lady.”
