Work Text:

Eris watched her sister and the little godling spar in the training yards from a few treetops away; As far as she could tell nobody really noticed her up there, except maybe Hecate and her inscrutable glowy eyes. Regardless it was a decent enough place to spy from, and this place was crazy boring otherwise.

Today's training seemed especially intense, or at least on the Princesses end. She seemed desperate to break her streak of losses against Nemmie. C'mon , she's way slower than you. The solution was obvious but the godling wasn't confident enough to pull it off it or whatever. Once Eris had gotten older her clashes with Nemesis got a lot easier, though whenever she did manage to catch her out her sister hit like a bull.

Eris busied herself with opening another one those cyclops jerky things, she might be getting addicted. But oh well, eating was a good way to stave off boredom. This particular package was stubborn though, she tugged at it with her teeth almost dropping it as a sound from the yard drew her attention back. She decided to get a better look, hopping from branch to branch. Hecate certainly noticed her now; She shot what was probably a warning glance in her direction, as if she couldn't be trusted or something…

Nemesis was unrelenting with her strikes from Stygius, but the Princess was just hanging in there—managing to block or deflect every blow with her staff. Finally Nemesis made a mistake; She over committed to what would have been a devastating overhead chop, but the Princess deftly evaded as the blade bit deep into the ground, getting stuck in the process. The godling saw her chance and slid around behind Nemesis, the business end of her stick to Nemesis's neck.

So there her sister was kneeling, seething, knowing she'd had finally lost. The Princess straightened, breathing hard, maybe not realizing she had won yet; Clearly she needed someone to remind her.

"Woo! Nice job, babe" Eris beamed down at her.

The godling's attention snapped to her up in the trees, her mismatched eyes were beautiful, and her divinity was unmistakable; Eris had never seen her this close before. She was breathing hard still, but a small, timid smile graced her lips and Eris felt like she was about to fall out of the tree.

She knew her name was Melinoe. But really, she was Trouble.

Notes:

This fic is just kinda me getting my feet wet here; I got DEEPLY obsessed with MelEris (and Eris specifically) months ago and have been wanting to contribute for quite awhile. So yeah, I'm hoping to put out much more than this but I'm learning fanfic writing (writing in general I suppose?) is not for the weak, as evidenced by the tons of half-formed ideas sitting in google docs, so I kept it very short and sweet.

Anyhow cheers! :D
