Work Text:
The hunters association has been severely understaffed recently. Everyone conveniently decided to go on holiday at the same time leaving you and a few other poor hunters to take care of the whole of Linkon by yourselves.
You were the last hunter in office, everyone else was out on missions, when captain Jenna called.
“There is suspected wanderer activity at the south boarder of the city. I need you to go check it out.”
Before you knew it you were faced with many high level wanderes with absolutely no one to help. With your gun in hand you tried to fend them off. Almost every bullet landed but with little effect, the association’s guns weren’t particularly the highest grade. Within minutes you were completely surrounded and they were moving in. Your gun was practically useless at this point and there was little your evol would be able to do. Your heart sunk as they continued to close in each taking turns to attack, poor Sylus is probably at home wondering when you’ll come home — you're already 30 minutes late. Will you even make it home?
A wanderer slashes your leg moments before a red mist starts to form, it’s Sylus. He’s immediately by your side pushing his hand into yours. He wants to resonate. You thread you fingers between his and welcome the hot energy to surge within you. With your combined power, each wanderer falls to the ground in succession — like dominoes — relief washes over you.
”It seems you’ve gotten yourself in quite the mess kitten.” Sylus says as he scoops you up in one arm, “ let’s get you home.”
Before you can protest you’ve already made it to his car. He sets you down in the passenger seat gently, buckles you in and presses a light kiss to your forehead.
The drive home was quiet, the streets of Linkon were too. The sky was dimmed and street lamps illuminated the city.
Once the car made it into the drive way you were already scrambling to get out, you had to make sure Sylus knew you could still be independent — especially after that humiliating wanderer attack. You manage to stumble out of the car and hobble to the door before Sylus can reach you.
“You need to be careful or you’ll injure your leg more.” Sylus’ voice rumbles behind you, his arm slithers around your waist, “here hold onto me.”
”I can take care of myself you know.” You protest but your hand has already made its way up his back and gripping his broad shoulder.
After making it into the house, Sylus sets you down on the sofa and kneels before you.
”May I?”
As much as you want to prove you can do it yourself you still end up nodding.
Sylus’ hands make their way to your ankle and slowly remove your boot, and then the other. He then disappears for a moment, the loss of his warm touch makes you shiver, and returns with a small med kit and a damp towel. His attention is immediately on your leg which is still oozing blood. He tries to reach the wound by pushing up your work trousers but they won’t roll up high enough. Without him needing to ask you’re already unbuttoning them and taking them off.
He locks eyes with you for a moment giving you silent reassurance through a quick nod before focusing back on your leg.
Sylus lightly dabs the damp towel around the wound, it wasn’t too hot and wasn’t too cold, you wince as the towel moves closer to the split skin.
”Shh it’s okay, I know it’s uncomfortable but you’re strong.”
He slowly caresses your calf with one hand while the other applies some sort of ointment. Moments later your leg is being bandaged and you realise how natural this seems to Sylus, it’s as if he does bandaging as a hobby, you know about how dangerous his work can get but you assumed he payed someone else do do this for him. He plants a kiss on your knee and rises to examine the other bruises and scratches over your body. Luckily you didn’t have any other major injuries.
”How are you feeling?” Sylus finally breaks the silence.
“I’m okay. Just—“ you pause momentarily, “just exhausted…”
”Understandable. Do you need any painkillers at all?”
”Yes please.” Your voice comes out smaller than expected.
Sylus disappears into the kitchen and returns with a glass of water, two pills, and a muffin; placing the muffin on the coffee table and handing you the glass.
”Anything else you need kitten?”
You shake your head and take the pills swiftly. Sylus sinks into the sofa beside you. You’re safe. You’re okay. You’re home. You reach for the muffin and immediately take a bite, you absolutely needed that. You and Sylus sit in comfortable silence soaking in the moment.
Once you’re done you stand to wash up your plate but Sylus tugs at your sleeve.
”And where are you going?”
”To wash up, is that a problem?” You turn and lock eyes with a red pair.
“Yes, actually, a major problem.” A smirk pulls at his lips as he removes the plate from your grasp and places it back onto the coffee table. “That’s a tomorrow us issue. Right now we’re going to bed.”
With the last bit of energy you had left, you turn on your heels and limp towards the bedroom in the fastest way possible. “I’ll race you!” You call behind you.
Within seconds you’ve been scooped up off the ground once again and you’re being carried to your room. A laugh rumbles from deep within Sylus’ chest and you join in with a giggle. You playfully hit his shoulder before you’re deposited onto the bed.
“You’re no fair, I’m injured you know!” You call out to where Sylus is at your shared wardrobe.
“Exactly, you’re injured. Can’t have you making it worse.” He holds up an old tee of his, “is this one okay?”
”Uhh.. yeah?” You assume he means for himself until he’s back to being infront of you, his hands making quick work of your hunter uniform and replacing it with his old tee.
Sylus’ hands make their way up to your face and cradle your cheeks. His eyes are filled with complete admiration. You lean into his hold, eyes growing heavy. Sylus moves forward allowing your noses to brush before his lips find yours. You almost melt then and there.
”Time to sleep.” Sylus whispers. He scuttles to the other side of the bed, swiftly strips down to his pants and slips under the covers.
You make your way under the covers too and shuffle over to find your human heater. You tangle together until you’re both comfortable and your breathing begins to sync.
After a long moment you murmur, “Sylus?” You get a low hum in reply. “Thank you. Thank you for saving me. Thank you for taking care of me. Just thank you.” You nuzzle your head into his chest drinking in his scent as if it’s not already engraved into your memory.
”You don’t need to thank me sweetie.” A hand of his snakes up to the hair at the nape of your neck and slowly makes circular motions. “Now try sleep okay? I love you.”
“I love you too Sylus. Goodnight.”
And with that you fell asleep.
