Work Text:

Ever since he obtained Shark Drake, Shark had changed.

He was consumed by rage, and his duels had become fierce and merciless.

Yuma couldn’t stand seeing him like that.

“What happened to you?” he asked, taking a step toward him.

Shark stood a short distance away. He had just finished another duel, and the dark aura of Shark Drake still pulsed around him.

The duelist he had brutally defeated staggered to his feet and fled, leaving the two of them alone on the rooftop.

Shark walked past him, clearly intending to leave without a word.

Yuma clenched his fists. “Wait!”

“Stay away from me if you don’t want to get hurt,” Shark warned without looking at him.

But Yuma had no intention of giving up. He chased after him and stepped in front of him to block his path.

“Move,” Shark said harshly.

“No. I’m not moving,” Yuma declared stubbornly.

Shark let out a low growl.

His eyes were filled with rage and hatred—they looked just like they had during their very first duel.

And yet Yuma couldn’t bring himself to be afraid of him.

Ever since Shark had risked his life to protect his key, Yuma had felt connected to him.

At first he thought it was just admiration, or simply wanting to stay close to him.

But every time Shark looked at him, his heart leaped in his chest.

And every time Shark suffered, it hurt him too.

Yuma wasn’t going to abandon him.

“This isn’t who you are,” he said, taking another step forward.

Shark moved in a flash and slammed him against the wall.

“You don’t know anything!” he spat. “You have no idea how much rage I carry inside me! And the more I fight, the more I want to destroy everything!”

Yuma stayed still, breathless from the impact, but he never stopped looking into his eyes.

Shark’s hands were trembling slightly, and his breathing was ragged.

He was suffering, and Yuma’s chest tightened painfully.

“Then take your anger out on me!” he exclaimed.

He could feel Shark Drake’s dark energy pulsing through the air around them, but he couldn’t force himself to back away.

Because it was still Shark standing before him, and Yuma trusted him completely.

“You can yell at me, hit me, I don’t care,” he continued. “I’m not leaving you alone with all this anger.”

He raised a hand and gently brushed Shark’s cheek.

Shark flinched slightly at the touch, and something in his eyes wavered.

Without thinking, Yuma leaned forward and kissed him.

It was a soft kiss, completely at odds with Shark’s rough grip on him and the fury shaking through his body.

Yuma closed his eyes, his heart aching with feelings he could no longer ignore.

He wanted to stay by his side.

He wanted to protect him.

He wanted to be the one who could reach him even in the darkness.

Shark stiffened, and for a moment Yuma thought he was going to push him away.

Instead, Shark tightened his grip on the front of Yuma’s vest and kissed him back fiercely.

It was no longer gentle. It was hungry. Desperate.

Yuma let out a startled sound when Shark suddenly shoved him to the ground and pinned himself above him.

“S-Shark?”

The rage in Shark’s eyes had been replaced by something else.

Lust.

Yuma shuddered when he felt Shark’s erection pressing against him, but the sound that escaped him was swallowed by Shark’s lips.

Shark kissed him roughly, biting his lip to force his mouth open.

Yuma obeyed, letting him deepen the kiss, and when Shark’s hands slipped beneath his shirt, he didn’t push him away.

He could never have pushed Shark away.

If it would free him from the darkness, he would have let Shark do anything he wanted to him.

Shark slid one leg between his, and Yuma moaned softly, unable to stop himself from getting aroused by the contact.

“Shark…” he breathed.

Shark pulled back just enough to look at him. He was still trembling above him, and Yuma cupped his face gently in his hands.

“It’s okay,” he murmured.

He kissed him again, softly.

“I love you,” he whispered, cheeks flushed as he looked into his eyes, vulnerable and sincere.

Shark’s eyes widened slightly.

Yuma pulled him into another kiss, and Shark stayed motionless for a moment.

Then suddenly, he shoved him away and stood up.

Yuma gasped softly, propping himself up on his elbows to stare at him.

“Shark…?” he asked worriedly.

Shark was breathing heavily, one hand pressed against his chest. Shark Drake’s aura flickered violently around him, as though he were struggling to regain control.

“Shark? Are you okay?” Yuma asked in alarm, getting to his feet and reaching out toward him.

“Don’t touch me!”

Shark exploded so sharply that Yuma flinched and froze.

“You… you must never touch me again,” Shark growled.

The words struck Yuma like a whip.

He stared at him, confused and hurt. “Shark… did I do something wrong?”

Shark turned his back to him without answering.

“Is… is it because I said I love you?” Yuma stammered, panic rising in his voice.

At those words, Shark clenched his fists tightly.

“Stay away from me, Yuma,” was all he said, his voice cutting.

And with that, he walked away, leaving Yuma alone with the pain crushing his chest and the shame burning his cheeks.
