Summary:

Krill takes a risk, and it solidifies what Mo already knows.

Notes:

Gradient wrote the original fic for me, I am just not immune to the idea of them falling a little deeper in love

Work Text:

Sleep didn't come as easy as Mo hoped. The night's adventure, the initiation into the Tunnel Rats, the adrenaline, the fear... it swirls in his stomach, but he still tries to doze - easily distracted by the twitch of Krill's fingers.

Was Krill not asleep?

Mo goes still, feeling Krill's fingers move to rest on Mo's snout. Krill's other hand reaches up, and Mo wills himself to stay still.

... Long, pensive silence.

Mo wants to open his eyes, but he can't risk letting Krill shy away from this moment. Krill would be able to tell his eyes are open in a moment.

"... A good team, into the future..."

Mo shifts, and Krill pulls away. He already regrets the motion.

More silence, more quiet. Mo wants to reach out, pull him in, reassure Krill as much as Mo reassures him.

Finally, Krill reaches back out, and Mo lets out the breath, hoping it convinces Krill he's asleep.

"... heh." Krill mutters. "You were stunning out there, today."

The compliment makes him want to curl into a ball.

"I hope I see every tomorrow with you."

There's something pressed to his nose, and it's only when his eyes open and are forced into focus that he knows what it is.

Krill's lips, soft, gentle, pressed to his nose, sealing the promise that Mo knows Krill didn't expect him to hear.

His face turns pink and Krill jolts in surprise at beady eyes, making Mo flush more.

"Ah- Momo, my friend..." Krill hurriedly pulls away, steaming in embarrassment. "Sorry. Are you...?"

Mo shakes his head, but pushes himself to be brave - reaching out, and pulling Krill back into his bubble.

Krill doesn't argue at the movement. Instead, he wordlessly settles, hand on Mo's snout. Mo closes his eyes and Krill watches him rest.

Mo didn't sleep that night, not very well - he has plans to make. Set aside some money, find a measurement of Krill's wrist, and finish off the start of this chapter the only way it can - ensuring Krill never has to stew in worry that Mo will leave.
