Chapter Text
‘Uwaaa~‘ Avery-kun squeaked. He was so clumsy~. ‘My papers!’ He felt hopeless as he watched the stack of A4 papers fly with the wind, spreading out across the concrete floor.
‘Are you okay?!’ Mateo-kun questioned, concerned about lacing his voice. He watched the whole thing unfold, deciding to help the kawaii girl pick up the scattered papers. Their lithe hands both reached towards the one in the middle, brushing against each other. A sudden spark between them filled the air. The two faces went beet red. Their hearts went doki-doki in sync.
‘Ah! Thank you~!’ Avery-kun managed to say before running towards the school, his face still red from blush. As he stared at the cherry blossom leaves falling down around him, Avery-kun wished he could see that student again…
‘This is Grey, Mateo. The new student in your class; please welcome him.’
‘Konnichiwa, Grey-kun’ The class chorused. Avery-kun was zoning out, gazing wistfully at the window. Maybe if he took that path he could meet that mysterious boy again.
‘Grey-kun, sit next to Sinclair-kun.’ Theo’s eyes dragged across the room before falling on the empty seat behind a girl gazing towards the window. Drops of golden sun hit his face, making him shine in the drab classroom. They looked familiar, but Mateo-kun couldn’t remember how he knew their faces.
It wasn’t until they turned towards him both their eyes went wide like saucers. Honey brown met amber orbs, both locked in each other's gaze.
‘Ahh~ it’s that student again!’ Avery-kun thought, his heart threatening to burst out of his chest just from looking at him across the classroom.
’N- no way..’ Mateo-kun said. How lucky was he to meet the clumsy kawaii girl again!?
‘S- Sinclair-kun right?’ Mateo-kun struggled to meet his eyes, blushing off awkwardly to the side. ‘I- I guess we’ll be seeing each other a lot more..’ I wouldn’t mind that.. He thought to himself.
‘Grey-kun… y- you can call me Avery-kun if you want..’ His eyes widened like saucers, red rising around his face. Should I have said that? Ah~ he makes me so flustered I can never think straight!! (cuz he’s GAY). Avery-kun thought.
‘T- that wouldn’t feel right..’ Mateo-kun said, trailing off due to plot convenience. Avery-kun's eyes began to trickle hot, wet drops of water. ‘U- unless you also called me Mateo-kun..’ He looked up, eyes still watery from tears. The sparkle in his eyes returned, shining once more. Mateo-kun would do anything, fight in a war, walk a thousand miles, anything to stop the light in his eyes from vanishing once more.
‘T- thanks Mateo-kun~!!’ His head tilted to the side in such a kawaii way that Mateo-kun’s heart almost exploded on the spot. If the last thing he ever saw was his smiling visage, he’d die a happy man.
Avery-kun looked downwards towards his feet. This was the third time his ‘friends’ had suspiciously moved spots without telling him where. At least I got to see Mateo-kun again… he thought to himself. Avery-kun bit onto his onigiri, swinging his feet as he hummed to himself.
‘I’m not a dere, tsun tsun dere..’ He began to sing quietly to himself. Little did he know, Mateo-kun was approaching towards him from behind, following the soft, angel-like singing. It happened to be fate that led to the girl Mateo-kun wanted to see the most. He could tell from his luscious brown locks cascading down his back, a red ribbon-like hairband adorning his head.
‘M- Mateo-kun!?’ He gasped. H- had he heard his sing!? Blush filled his face rapidly. He was so embarrassed~.
‘Why’d you stop?’ Mateo-kun questioned, tilting his head to the side while he spoke.
‘I- I haven’t sung for anyone in a long time..’ Avery-kun spoke quietly. ‘Not since all my friends left.. They moved schools a while ago..’ He looked downwards.
‘Would you mind if I sat with you?’ A simple nod was all it took for him to plop down right next to Avery-kun. The pair spoke for what felt like hours before the ringing of the bell sent them both to their respective classes.
