Yosano took a bite of her vegan pizza she had made for breakfast, savoring the taste of her leftovers from the previous night. She
enjoyed pizza, she really did but with her adopted brother in the house, she couldn’t eat a single thing without it being snatched
“Watcha eating there, sano?”
Speak of the devil.
“Vegan pizza. There’s some In the freezer” she says, mouth half full.
“Ok” her adopted brother, Ranpo, cheers as he practically prances to the freezer. He puts it into the microwave and watches it spin around. That’s what truly entertained him. He pulls it out, and takes a large bite, then sits down at the table with his sister
“Shool’s gonna be so boring” he whines, taking another large bite.
“Not unless you hang out with your friends.. or find a special someone~” Yosano half-teases, putting her plate into the sink, and sticking her tongue out at Ranpo who was making a disgusted face at his sister.
“No seriously, it’ll be fun-just hurry up cause you always make us late!”
….
Ranpo sighs. He doesn’t care what yosano has to say, school has always been boring for him. Academics were never a challenge, no matter pre-school or college level, he was only in school for the social aspect, and to show off. Nothing could really entertain him at school anymore, and it was his third year. I might as well quit and join the detective wing of the police force he thinks, opening his locker.
A girl rushes past him, gripping a book in her hands, nearly bumping into him. Confused murmurs hatch among the crowd.
He yawns. Wasn’t it obvious? She was late to her first class because she’s a first year. The text books say it all! And her name is Higuchi because of her “h” necklace, and the name on the folder that’s slightly hidden by her arm. She’s late because she had to trim her rabbit's nails, due to the tiny tip of a nail on the edge of her shirt and rabbit fur on the other side. People are too easy to read Ranpo thinks, heading to his literature class with Mr. Ango.
“Pull out your textbooks and flip to page 10, everyone!” Mr. Ango says simply, pushing up his glasses.
Ranpo didn’t “pull out his textbook” because he was distracted. His jaw nearly hit the floor. He pulled out his phone, and texted yosano, urgently

11:34 am.
Ranpo: YOSANI
Ranpo: YOSANO
Yosano: what is it, darling brother 🙄
Ranpo: NO SANO, FR, THERES THUS REALLKY CUTE AMERICAN IN MY CLASS
Yosano: wait Fr?! Talk to him! Get his number..do you know his name?”
Ranpo: I THINK THAT HUS NAME IS POE! HE HAS BLACK NAIL POLISH AND A RACCOON PIN I THINK HES GAY
Yosano: Me and Kouyou are studying rn in the library. Why don’t you invite him to study with us tomorrow? If you befriend him, that is.
Ranpo: IM GAONNA TALK TOMHIM!
Yosano: ok, keep my updated!
11:55 am.
Ranpo: SANO
Ranpo: IM TALKING TI HIM
Ranpo: I TOLF HIM HIS OUTIFT WAS CUTE ANS HE BLUSHED I ASKED HI, TO EAT LUNCH WITH ME HE SAI D YES WHAT DO IDO

Ranpo: I’m gonna kill you, sano
Yosano: chill! I was making out with koyou!
Ranpo: meet at lunch, I’ll be with him!

“Vegan pizza again?” Ranpo teases yosano, he’s coming in from behind yosano, who was sitting down, enjoying her pizza. Yosano whipped her head around. Her brother dragging an American boy with long hair, a dark aesthetic and a nervous look around by his wrist. He fiddled with his sleeve with his free hand.
“Yosano, meet Poe! He’s a transfer student and awfully cute~!”
Poe squirms, hiding his crimson face with his sleeve.
Yep. Ranpo has already won.
They both sat down, and Poe had started a conversation with Yosano, discussing his raccoon pin and favorite books. Ranpo could not lie, he was cute, his type, smart, and awfully handsome. The only downside being he was a bit awkward. Ranpo frowned at this thought, knowing that despite him being insanely smart, he was not exactly socially intelligent, and would have trouble supporting Poe, regardless of what their relationship was.
….
“I dunno, sano,” Ranpo whined, mouth full of cheap dollar store chocolates. “You’re like the only gay person at this school, I’d get flamed if I dated him”
Yosano nearly spit out her herbal tea. Between uncontrolled laughter she managed:
“What..the..hah!..fuck..do..pffft!..you mean ..silly!” She giggled, placing her tea on a coaster. “I could name 5 couples!” She argued.
“Fine then do it.”
“ me and Kouyou, dazai and chuuya, melody and Lucy, Higuchi and gin, Akutagawa and the tiger kid..oh! And those two teachers..what’s their names again..Mr. Ango and Mr. Oda”
“Ok, I suppose you have a point there..” “I guess I’m just nervous”
Yosano looked like her brother just confessed to committing a war crime.
“My brother?! Ranpo?! Nervous?! Yeah, likely”

Ranpo: Hi Poe!
Poe: Who exactly is this again?
Ranpo: its me! Ranpo! Wanna hang out later?!
Poe: I suppose, although I just met you!
Ranpo: yeah, so then we’ll be able to get to know each other better! Ada’s cafe at 1:00 tomorrow?
Poe: sure.

Ranpo thinks he can read everyone. He couldn’t quite read Poe.. so he wasn’t aware that Poe was kicking his feet at the fact his enemy in their one-sided academic rivalry was practically asking him out!
