Work Text:
Before I was chained to this cliff I actually had a son, Deucalion, who married Pyrrah, Epimetheus and Pandora’s daughter.
My dear son, Deucalion, would occasionally visit me and it was in one of those visits that I warned him of Zeus’ plans to destroy the current age of humans. I instructed him to build a chest and to stock it with provisions for the flood.
Deucalion did as I told him to and, true to my warning, not too long after he constructed the chest Zeus sent down the flood.
It rained on earth for nine days and nights.
So, so many of my dear creations were drowned. I suppose Zeus thought it would be another clever way to torture me. Leaving me helpless on this cliff to watch them all drown.
The only ones spared from the flood were those who lived up high in the mountains and my son and his wife.
Eventually, Deucalion and Pyrrah drifted towards Parnassus. Where, after the flood stopped, Deucalion made a sacrifice to Zeus.
Zeus seemed to be feeling merciful and sent the god Hermes to grant Deucalion one wish.
My son clearly takes after me as for his one wish he asked to get mankind back.
Zeus granted his wish and told Deucalion and Pyrrah to pick up the stones on the ground and to throw them over their heads.
For every stone Deucalion threw, a male appeared and for every stone Pyrrah threw, a woman appeared.
My son and his wife settled down in Parnassus and had children of their own, who they divided Greece between for each child to rule over.
Deucalion and Pyrrah brought forth a new race of humans and I have never been prouder.
Oh, how I love mankind. You all have such wonderful ideas and adventures. I love each and every one of them. Even you, my lovely Reader. You may have made mistakes in your lifetime but how I love you for it. Humans are such wonderful creatures.
