Notes:

To My Best Friend, My Gwathel Nin, for your support all these years.

Work Text:

It had been a quiet day, she mused. Making her way through the ward. Several small cases had come in, but they had been been dealt with. As a healer one did not often have time to place feelings (although sympathy was mixed in equal parts) above the work that was to be done.  But now with quiet descending upon the healers ward, she did have time to think.

Making her rounds, she came to two very familiar used beds at the far end of the hall.

It seemed as if years of memories embedded in the very frame. The two kingly brothers bringing each other in. The many times of serving them sleep bringing tea.  Peter bringing his brother with a broken arm (or worse), Of each Fighting fevers. So many of antics of the two boy kings both in trying bring the other in for needful care or of in trying to leave from restlessness. The healing of battle wounds or various tortures. She had been like to a mother to them. (Oh it was certain they had a mother in the other world they had come from but that did not matter.)

And now it was as a mother whose children had grownup and going into the world, will not be coming back. Because they had gone out of this world completely. The news had come several days ago circulated around the castle rather rapidly, despite attempts to the contrary. Their flags were still being flown (to keep other countries from getting wise and attacking)  and search parties had been sent out into the wood.

But for herself, she was quite certain. They would not return. The Lion had taken them back to whatever land he had brought them from. They had guided Narnia for a season and done well, now it was time to return. Tonight she would spare herself a moment to cry.
