Chapter Text
Chaos hadn't been sure who else to take to the other universe, the other Chaos, her sister from another universe waited patiently while Chaos looked over among her precious great-grandchildren.
She does not know who else to take yet, Thalia has to wait a little bit longer for now as severing her ties to this world will be harder to go undetected.
A seemingly harmless gush of wind blew past the sleeping camp but it was more than that, it was the first mother peering down into the small camp.
Inspecting each cabin she comes across, each one of her poor children have suffered so much.
Her presence passed by each cabin, everyone was so tense even in their sleep, all of them so worried because their greatest warriors and heroes of the camp have gone missing with not a single lead.
Chaos felt bad for causing such panic among the young demigods but they didn't know where the others have gone, they don't know that they'll be transported to a world where their parents will love them unconditionally.
There were so many restless sleepers tonight, everyone on edge.
She passes the Hypnos cabin before coming back to it.
It was filled with three occupants right now, yes, Hypnos's cabin was one of the smaller cabins, a minor god they consider him though Chaos knew better than that, Hypnos was just as strong as his mother is.
He doesn't have many kids, he didn’t have many before the wars had happened but after the wars he never got to claim those children he had lost, Chaos could only silently sympathise for Hypnos as he had wept in silence when he found he had only been left with three children.
Chaos finds herself entering the cabin, observing the three peacefully sleeping demigods; they didn't stir even as her presence came within the cabin.
How precious, each single one of them, precious.
She gently went to each of them, Clovis, the head of the Cabin, he was sleeping peacefully in his bunk, golden hair sprawled out messily, Chaos brushed a strand away from his eyes.
He was a hurt child but not as much as the others, he too had found a lot of pain of being a demigod, from being unclaimed for so long, from the hardships he had to bear.
But unlike most, Clovis had a mother, supportive mother who tries her best, Clovis loves his mother so Chaos leaves him for now, Hypnos's hold on the boy was tight.
Chaos moves to the next one, younger than the other two demigods in the cabin, only 13 years old, little things had only recently found out he had been a demigod and was claimed 5 months ago on his birthday. The switch between universes would be too much for the boy, he was only coming to terms with being a demigod in this universe.
He would not handle the transition very well.
So Chaos then moved to the last child of Hypnos.
It was a girl, a year younger than Clovis but three years older than their younger brother. But she looked older, more hardened than either of them, war seems to have affected her more than Clovis.
Chaos presses a hand gently on the girl's head, feeling the softness of her short hair.
Entering the girl's memories was a painful experience because what Chaos had seen almost broke the first mother into tears.
Demigods, so many of them, in both wars, injured and not enough healers to heal all of them, not enough to save all those poor, young, desperate demigods.
It hadn't been her role or duty but the girl stayed by each of their sides. Not able to do much other than give them relief of their pain…their fear.
She whispered soft spoken words to each demigod, promising them that they'll feel no pain, not anymore, that they just had to close their eyes and dream, and let themselves fall into Hypnos's embrace.
The girl handed them off to Thanatos, giving them a peaceful crossover.
That was how the girl had claimed, she had put those demigods into one last restful and peaceful rest before Thanatos came and collected them.
The poor girl…had been more affected than what others would think she had been, she had flashes, bad flashes of her fallen fellow demigods, begging to be saved or for death.
She couldn’t save them…she only gave them what she could and she thought it still hadn't been yet enough.
Chaos had to admit, the girl was more connected to Hypnos's domain than any other demigod was to their own parent's domains, the great mother wondered why that was.
The first mother however pondered if it was the right idea to send the daughter of a God who had sadly not made it in the other universe, she wouldn't have her godly parent there.
But she has seen that other universe that her poor daughter, Nyx had grieved heavily over the loss of her own few children, that being Hypnos included, the curse from Kronos having reached her kids and making a few of them wither away slowly and horribly.
Death over in that universe was no longer very peaceful anymore without his brother to help bring mortals to a peaceful slumber. His work efforts had diminished dramatically and mortals suffered and feared death like never before.
Thanatos could do nothing but try his best in trying to give mortals a peaceful crossing over without his twin brother by his side helping mortals into one last peaceful slumber.
Hypnos's sons, the sons he managed to have, only three of them survived out of the thousand of other dream spirits she had tried to have.
Morpheus, Phobetor, and Phantaus. Those three work alone, struggling to maintain the dream realm and their father's domains but they hadn’t been built for that type of thing unlike their dad.
Would she be replacing that Hypnos if she sent this daughter of Hypnos over to that other universe though?
Or would Hesper be treasured? Loved?
She doesn't receive much of that here as it is now, her father despite his acknowledgement, Hypnos has failed to notice the impacts of a demigod holding the responsibilities of that of a god.
Hesper would be close to accession when she transferred into the new universe, she was already close here but she was being held back by her mortal blood.
It was slowly killing her, Chaos can feel it, she can feel how close Hesper was to the edge, how close she was crossing over to the other side herself by her own hands.
Chaos doesn't dwell on it for very long, she knows whose next.
Hesper Lee, daughter of Hypnos
Chaos echoed through the cosmos, it vibrated all the way through to herself from the other universe.
You have surpassed enough here, it is time to properly rest, my dear.
A hand reached for Hesper's face gently and comforting.
Hesper who had just been travelling through the dream world for funsies felt a tug, she looked around but didn't see anything.
What?
She went to move on but another tug came, this time Hesper whips around frantically. Who the hell was doing that?
But before she could yell out to her brothers it felt as if a hand grabbed her, like a massive hand.
—time to properly rest, my dear
Those were the only words that Hesper had managed to hear before everything went black.
