Work Text:
When the soft glim of the sun peeking through the classroom's window colored the soft features and lashes of Luis Fabián, his mind was not there, his mind was not recognising the heat made by the sun, or the way his brown hair turned gold, nor the birds' consistent chirping.
When you are far away from home, it is difficult to concentrate on Geometry, you just think about your homeland. About the fact that it wouldn't be spring there but autumn, that in this part of the big country USA, West Virginia is now the place you live in, not Peru with the cold sea and warm people. It felt like hitting rock bottom, and just waiting until he got used to it. He never thought he would miss a place full of violence and death, but how come you not miss the place you were born in, the one who watched you grow and become a kind of civilized human being.
Thoughts flooded his head until a firm voice and the sound of a ruler hitting the table,
1, then another.
2,
But only the third hit woke him up.
"Luis Fabián! Is my class not interesting to you?!" Startled he answered in the foreign language "No miss, I jus- I was just" the omega mumbled, if it wasn't for his scent patches the classroom would be filled with his honey and sap scent. Murmurs came from all directions
"He doesn't even know how to talk."
"That's why third world people shouldn't come to America."
"So dumb."
The old teacher, with the breath of rum and coffee shouted "Silence! You ought to respect your elders! When I'm talking you must shut up". The old beta lady looked at Luis Fabián with a hatred full look, and she continued to give class like he wasn’t just humiliated.
A voice from the table beside him said warmly “Don’t mind Miss Tucker, she’s always been like this. Oh, I’m Tung tung tung sahur by the way, but everyone calls me TripleT, I don’t even know when they started calling me that.” Luis Fabián looked at him with those almond like eyes, there was something different about this new young brainrot, ‘cause yeah, Luis Fabian was in a mixed school of humans and brainrots.
“Well, uhm… I’m Luis Fabián” murmured the shy omega
“Is it okay if I call you Fabi?” A great laugh escaped Luis’s throat as he stood up to go to lunch “I think it’s a bit of a stupid name” The brown haired boy replied, more anxious and a bit sour was his tone of voice, replacing the happiness he could have if he was in another place.
“Y’know… My group of friends are being a pain in the ass right now. I swear they aren’t always like this! So, to make it up for you, would you like to eat lunch with me? School is gonna end tomorrow so maybe we could meet each other before classes end” Tung said warmly. Fabian thought about it for a second, I mean, he was literally alone and was planning to eat in the bathroom, but having company didn’t sound so bad, “It would be good to actually meet someone”.
Without more preambles they headed towards the cafeteria, the smell of suspiciously colorful food filled the atmosphere of the closed cafeteria, they found a table quickly and the cafeteria was almost empty because almost nobody goes to class during the last days of school.
Tung started the conversation, not looking at Fabián’s eyes directly. “It sure is difficult to be at a new school right?”
“It wasn’t difficult from where I come from.. people are so different here, they are pretty stupid” The omega answered as he scratched his scent patch, unconciously takig his makeup off, revealing the soft piece of cotton in his neck.
“You’ll get used to it I swear. When the school admitted brainrots we were seen as weird things but after a while they treated us well”
Fabian snorted genuinely mad with his comment, slamming his hand against the table. But being the weak little omega he is, only a soft thump sounded “You say that because you were actually born here, you are an “American” why do you even say Americans, America is a continent It’s like everyone from here is a bit short-minded”
Tung tung tung sahur laughed loudly, he sounded like a pig being strangled but Luis Fabián didn’t mind, it was weird, he would have laughed loudly too and say he sounds like a turkey being eaten for Christmas. But no, he said nothing. There was something about Tung that was sincere, that crazy laugh was him without filters, even though they only know themselves from one day there was something else, like a tiny connection that was there since they existed.
Tung tung said between laughs trying to contain himself “Calm down Fabi, its just America” he changed to a mockingly tone “And of course we call it that because we are the best country in all America”
Tung placed a hand firmly on his shoulder, he squeezed the omega’s shoulder and accidentally touched the skin colored scent patch in Luis Fabián’s neck, his thick fingers lingered there longer than they should be. Luis Fabián’s cheeks turned red, as he grabbed Tung’s hand and took it away slowly, the texture, the raspy and soft at the same time texture of the patch made TripleT want to rip it off and discover the scent Fabi hid.
Fabi was about to say something, but the ring of the alarm silenced him. He stood up quickly and let go of Tung’s hand. He was feeling weird, flustered to say the least his heart was running and his cheeks were turning reddish. There was an undeniable sensation of something deeper, the start of something new, the bloom of recognising he might feel something that feels like love. He ran to the nearest bathroom, “I’ve never been in love before, it’s too much. The weight in my chest is so heavy I'm feeling my ribs puncturing my lungs” He thought, gripping his own shirt like it was the only thing keeping him steady.
Later that day during class, the letters in the books didn’t made sense to Tung, the words rearranged into the sweet name of Luis Fabián, the images on the history book seemed to all have the beautiful face of that boy.
The next day, the last day of school to finally be free for a whole summer, felt like a blur. Luis Fabián wasn’t anywhere at school until the final bell rang, Tung searched for him all day but it seemed like he faded away.
As the days pass and the heat of the sun over everyone in their city is more and more noticeable, and the heat in both of their hearts too. The desire to see each other again was deep and heart-sunking, but bad for them they haven’t exchanged numbers.
In a desperate manner Tung searched in their school forums and information for his number until he found it. When he did a glimmer of hope shone in his eyes he typed a casual message, and erased it, and then again and again and again and again, until he decided to just send the first one he initially wrote.
“Hey Fabi! I know a hidden spot in Summersville lake, wanna go?”
The ding of the notification surprised the bored Luis Fabián, making his heart race without him wanting.
“When?” the omega casually texted, hiding his real excitement.
“I’ve got time tomorrow,” Tung replied.
“‘kay.” was Luis Fabián’s last message.
The next day Tung waited patiently, sitting on a rock behind the trees. If you looked closely behind some trees there was a very uncomfortable path to pass, but when you noticed that this spot was hidden and just perfect your vision changed.
Luis Fabián then arrived after getting lost 3 times before. The place was unknown but beautiful, like discovering a new rare flower, the families were all out of sight when he followed Tung’s written instructions and found the spot where Tung was waiting with two chairs, and some towels.
