Moonlight, Sunshine, and Anxiety.

Summary:

"Join Freddy and the gang after hours here at the Mega Pizzaplex! We're looking for you! Come and be apart of our night staff, work along side and even get some personal interactions with the gang!" A woman on the tv said, Night shifts would be perfect for you. So you decided to give the place a call.

You are a man who has severe anxiety issues, so bad that you tear into your arms by scratching them to the point they bleed. How will you handle being the handler for two animatronics who already hate adults and hate the staff even more?

Chapter 1: Hired! Surpisingly...

Chapter Text

Beep! Beep! Beep! Your alarm sounds loudly, grumbling while groggy eyes open slightly to the dark bedroom of your apartment, blackout curtains keeping the light out from the way too big pillows. With a heavy sigh you reluctantly unbundle from the chrysalis of blankets wrapped tightly around your body. It was warm, weighted, and comforting the only thing that made you feel safe and calm anymore. You cuddled deeper but the alarm on your phone only got louder, singling how you couldn’t ignore the day and your responsibilities forever.

With a heavy and reluctant sigh, you reached over practically throwing your arm over next to you where you heard the cellular device with a tired grumble “Stupid fucking alarm…” You grabbed your phone from the hard wood floor where it had been left last night when you came home from that shitty part-time job, you couldn’t even afford proper furniture with how shit the pay is.

You sat up with a lazy stretch and turned the damn thing off with annoyance, you looked around with messy hair and drool on the side of your mouth, you always tended to drool when you had to take melatonin to sleep.Your apartment wasn’t the best; only one room with a mattress on the floor near a window with an annoying draft, a small open kitchenette with a stove that only worked on its own time, you weren’t able to get it to work lately so you figured it finally gave out. Then the only separated room was a small leaky bathroom.

Standing up after a small moment of struggle and nearly falling flat on your face since you didn’t let your body properly wake up. You dragged your feet over to the bathroom door, opening it with the hinges squeaking in protest. Walking over you turned the poor excuse of a shower on, the water pressure only seemed to get worse and worse. You didn’t bother to close the bathroom door, it wasn’t like you lived with anyone.

After a quick shower that refused to get to a decent temp, you got dressed in a baggy outfit of shorts and a longsleeved shirt, with a heavy sigh you contemplated brushing your teeth… “fuck it,” is all your mind thought, you just couldn’t bother at the moment besides you brushed them last night and haven’t eaten anything. Making your way out of your apartment you walked down the drafty stairs, and started to walk to the nearby gas station, mainly for your usual morning coffee, but also because you had to get out of your house before you just rotted away or let your overthinking get to you and send you into some stupid spiral.

The walk was surprisingly nice, it was still really early so the streets weren't too noisy or crowded, the sky wasn’t too bright and it was warm with a cold breeze. You entered the gas station, the old bell chimed above you. You walked to the small coffee station with pre-made coffee and a surprisingly decent choice of creamers. It wasn’t much but it was something and it was cheap coffee, what's there to complain about? Besides, it was surprisingly good. While you were leaning back against the counter looking at the creamers and whether you wanted something sweet or not. You saw the TV in the corner of the ceiling flick from the show it had on it popped up with an ad for the new Mega Pizzaplex. It was always so crowded and that's what really put you off from going, your anxiety just couldn’t take all the noise and the people. You didn’t know how people could stand it personally.

You watched the ad for a moment before you sighed and walked over to the counter where a new worker is standing, you placed your coffee of choice on the counter. “That’ll be one dollar and thirty cents.” You nodded and gave them the payment. She didn’t speak anymore to you, and you were glad she didn’t; you were here so often, and always got the same thing in the morning before heading out to walk around town. Or just be anywhere that wasn’t your shit excuse for a living space. You left the gas station, the bell ringing as you walked through the door into the parking lot.

Walking down the sidewalk and into the small town, there were some people smoking and a few drunkards asleep outside the entrance of a popular bar. The town was usually better when you got away from the more tempting areas, you continued to walk until you reached the calmer side of town. You passed by a TV shop and saw the Mega Pizzaplex ad on the TVs in the window playing again, you rolled your eyes and went to walk pass before a line in the ad caught your attention.

“Now hiring night time staff, apply now only a certain number of spots are open. Maybe you’ll be the lucky one to join Freddy and the gang after hours! If you're interested in being a part of this Fazzerific family, call the number below now! Freddy and the gang would love to meet you!” The lady's voice on screen was surprisingly soft yet energetic, she was with the main group as they closed off the ad with some jingle you didn’t pay attention to.

A nighttime position… That sounded perfect, you could at least apply and see if you actually get lucky for once, or if the world would forsake you again and leave you in a shit position. A nighttime job in a large empty quiet mall sounded like heaven, no screaming or loud noises and a little amount of people. Taking out your phone you dialed the number on screen then stepped to the side to a quiet space in an alleyway, your leg bouncing slightly and your free hands fingers tapping your arm, doing your best not to scratch.

You had successfully gotten an interview for six thirty the next day, you had taken a quick shower to look fresher, brushed out your hair and put on a simple outfit. A warm sweater with jeans and a button up underneath letting the shirt collar be neatly folded to show above the sweater collar, you were a little chubby but the slight hug of your clothes was comforting in a way. It was simple but professional as well as comfortable, it would also hopefully keep you from scratching and picking at yourself.

You exited your bathroom grabbing what you needed, shoving a clicker fidget into your pocket then left the apartment. Putting on an over the ear ear bud on one ear, you play one of your usual playlists to distract yourself from the people around you while you walk, hoping to subside some of your anxiety at least a little. It took a small walk but you were soon at the Pizzaplex. You stood there frozen, you grasped the sweater where your heart was; interviews were always so hard, especially crowded popular areas like this.

You sighed heavily and stuffed your hands into your pockets, you got this far you had to keep going especially if you could get a better job- well a better everything and a job that's quieter is honestly worth it. Your current one sucked, working at a restaurant with what could hardly be called minimal wage where drunks and loud rude snobs of people constantly ended up was the worst.

You took a few deep breaths and messed with a clicker toy in your pocket to try and calm down a little, you took out your earbud putting it away. After a minute or two you slowly walked to the entrance trying to avoid others while you entered, it felt like everyone was burning holes into you, like you were some kind of anomaly; or failure making you fidget even more and clicking the small toy more rapidly. “Just get in and get out, get to a worker, get to the interview, and try not to go into a panic attack or make a fool of yourself… Man, I wish this was easier for me, but it never is.”

You muttered to yourself, you looked around for an employee that wasn’t busy or a guard that was stationary, man this wasn’t easy. Why couldn’t you just be normal and confident like the people you see on the streets or TV? You finally spotted a guard and walked over to the man. He had dark skin and a large afro with two dreads on the side of his face and square glasses, he wore a white button up uniform shirt with a loose necktie, black pants, and a utility belt. His name tag read ‘Jeremy Fritzgerald’ he seemed like a laid back person with how he leaned back and had a lazy smile, that or he was high. You hoped he wasn’t high, why did you always think people were high? You got closer and hesitated before clearing your throat in hopes you wouldn’t fumble over your words. “Uh- Hello?” shit you sounded like some lost child, way to go idiot. Jermey looked over before he smiled brightly and turned to face you properly. “What's up, man? Ya’ need something?”

"I’m here for a five O’clock meeting with a m-miss Smith..” You looked up at him hoping you didn’t look as pathetic as you sounded, it didn’t help that the man was taller than you, making you tilt your head back slightly to look up at him properly. Jeremy nodded and he turned his attention to what looked like a smart watch that’s Monty themed. He then clicked his tongue before he gestured for you to follow him.

“Follow me pipsqueak, I’ll lead ya to Mrs. Smith’s office!” His tone was playful and in good will but it didn’t help you relax any, it just caused your thoughts to start up and become harder to push away. You were digging your nails into the palms of your hands inside your pants pockets from how badly your anxiety was acting up. You both walked past the main entrance and to a door that led to a quieter hallway with less people, it helped a little with your anxiety but not much. You practically jumped out of your skin when Jermey spoke up.

“So what’cha applying for?” He looked back at you with hazel brown eyes that gleaned excitedly, he reminded you of a laid back but still hyper dog. You hesitated before finally getting some words out, digging your hands as deep as you could in your pockets. “I-I’m hoping to get a position for something in the night staff ar-area, I-I don’t have anything specific in mind…”

Jermey hummed as he turned around walking backwards with a wide playful grin. “Well, we have plenty of choices, night janitor, mechanic, nightguard, and a handler position for the daycare animatronics! They were recently just split and given new bodies, Fazbear decided it would be cheaper since the dual system was getting too expensive to keep fixing, we would usually have the handlers be daytime workers but they don’t exactly get along well with adults, let alone workers…”

Jeremy continued to ramble, his voice wasn’t too loud, so it didn’t make you want to cover your ears if anything it was like a lazy excited tone. He had started to ramble on about the animatronics, his favorite seemed to be Monty with how his face lit up even more talking about the gator.

You both continued to walk down the staff hallway until you reached a simple dark oak door with a silver sign next to it with ‘Managers office’ engraved into it. You sighed heavily and looked over at Jeremy who was still rambling. You had to clear your throat before he finally stopped, he then laughed rubbing the back of his head. “Sorry, Van doesn’t usually let me ramble this much, so I got a little carried away. Anyway- Good luck with your interview pipsqueak!”

he turned on his heel and jogged back to the main area, you could’ve sworn you saw a tail wagging behind him. You watched him for a moment, then mumbled quietly “Uh- thanks, g-good luck with your shift?” he probably didn’t even hear you. Giving him a small wave, which he didn’t even see, before turning your attention back to the large dark oak door in front of you. With a heavy sigh you shakily knocked on the door waiting for an answer.

“Come in.” A stern yet motherly-like voice came from the other side of the door, you shakily turned the handle and peeked your head in. The office is sleek yet rustic with a large curved desk in the center filled with paperwork and a laptop in the center, large shelves filled with books and merchandise on the walls and a large window behind her. When you fully entered the office and walked over, a woman with long brown hair and sharp blue eyes looked up, her face had soft freckles and she wore light makeup with black lipstick and sharp eyeliner, she suited a sharp dark navy blue suit, that had a lighter blue undershirt and a light pink necktie.

You smiled anxiously, and sat down in a chair across from her after she gestured for you to sit. She asked your name and you stated it after stuttering slightly, she began to look through your file. The silence made you anxious causing your fingers to twitch with the urge to scratch or pick. “Ahem- you should know the only position we have open is the handler position for the daycare animatronics, you should know they’ve chased off their other handlers who’ve tried to take that position. But if you're willing to try, we can definitely set you up.” You nodded and leaned back anxiously in your chair, she looked up at you then back at your file on the computer. “Yeah, I-I can definitely try..”

She nodded and gave a soft smile. “It says you have some pretty bad anxiety but Sun and Moon can easily work with that! And it says you have at least a little experience in basic maintenance so that works really well for this position, especially if you know how to read blue prints and follow instructions well.” She looks you over from the top of her laptop, she looked strict and mean but she gave off a really sweet and motherly vibe, it was quite clashing yet fitting. You nodded with a nervous smile before clearing your throat. “Uh- I-I can start whenever, I prefer night shifts anyway… S-so I really thought this place would be a good place to work, I-I know my record of anxiety attacks and panic attacks can be off putting but I’ve gotten better at not letting them happen…”

She nodded and pushed some hair behind her left ear, she leaned back, opening a file cabinet. She took out some paperwork then placed it in front of you, tapping the top paper with manicured nails that were baby blue with light pink french tips. “I understand, but Sun and Moon are programmed to help with such things, they’re made to take care of children, so hopefully that won’t be a major problem. Now I just need you to read this and sign where I tell you. Your experience is great but there are risks that are involved, and after signing this I’ll need you to sign a NDA. Fazbear policy, I hope you understand."

She gave a slightly eerie smile that put you off but none the less you nodded, shakily grabbing the paperwork after she pulled away. When you began to read it, the things that stood out most were the warnings that bodily harm, emotional harm, and ptsd might be caused, but there was a provided living space and medical insurance as long as you stayed with the company.

While you were reading Mrs. Smith had taken out a NDA and placed it in front of you, along with a pen. You began to weigh your options, you knew Fazbear was sketchy and known for deaths happening and being covered up. But you ultimately signed the main paperwork along with the NDA. You desperately needed a new job and home, and this was a good packaged deal, despite the possible danger you were putting yourself in. But bodily harm and emotional damage is something you could easily deal with, as long as it wasn’t major, you’ve been through worse after all.

You both talked for a bit, she told you to come in around six-thirty pm tomorrow when the place is starting to quiet down. She'd have a uniform waiting for you in your new living quarters, also so you could get a map and learn the basic rules of the place. When you turned to leave and were halfway out the door when she spoke one last time. “I’ll have some people escort you around and tell you the rules tommorow when you arrive. I’ll send you a message or email about what to do and where to go.” You gave a small nod and closed the door behind you when you then turned down the way you remember coming from.

You had gotten home a bit later than you liked since there had been an accident blocking your way. For once you actually felt more excited than nervous for a job, you weren’t sure why, but maybe it’s because you would finally get out of this hell hole of an apartment and you could finally quit that damn job with your shitty boss.

You got changed into some simple sleeping clothes and set an alarm for five pm tomorrow, you grabbed an old suitcase you had shoved into a small closet. You began to pack up your things, well what little things you had, into them. You always planned to move out of this place, and ironically your lease ended tomorrow. You would just leave a note on the door tomorrow morning, your landlord didn’t care as long as you were gone and took most of your things.

You took extra care to pack the few pairs of clothes you had and your many blankets along with an old stuffed animal you’ve had for years, sure it was childish but it was a comfort item. It was a simple grey and black rabbit that was weighted and always covered in a soft lavender scent, you weren’t really sure how, but you decided not to question it since it’s soft and comforting. After you were done packing, leaving a weighted blanket and old pillows out, you flopped down on your poor excuse of a bed, which was just a thin mattress on the floor with a bed sheet that refused to stay fully on. You took a decent amount of a melatonin gummy because god knows how hard it is to sleep properly with excitement and anxiety coursing through you, you soon fell asleep waiting to be woken up by your alarm.
