Work Text:
The door to Noah’s room slammed shut behind him, the frame reverberating slightly in the aftermath.
Olivia stood staring at the door in disbelief.
What had happened to the sweet boy she remembered?
Where did she go wrong?
The long hours she worked probably were responsible for part of it, even though she had made sure that Noah had the continuity of Lucy’s care and been with him every moment she was away from work.
Or maybe it was just that he was a teenager now, and therefore he was lost to hormonal influences for the next few years.
She remembered being a teenager.
It sucked.
So that’s what it probably was—some high school drama that he would never completely share, or someone he had a crush on. Still, Olivia was quickly growing tired of the way he was speaking to her.
She needed to vent.
Amanda would understand.
Olivia: I thought teenage boys were supposed to be easier?
Amanda: They are easier. Someone stole Jesse and replaced her with one of the lesser demons last year. You got a couple of extra years. Plus Billie’s next. You got it easy!
Maybe I have. Thanks for the perspective. How do you deal?
Alcohol and sex.
Have you been getting busy since the divorce?
Only with myself 🤣
Are you stocked up with wine?
Times are tough. You?
I’ve been prepping for this.
What do I have to do to get an invite?
You just did it. When will you be here?
Gimme an hour to beg Sonny for help.
I could pull some strings…
It’s fine I have plenty of ammo!
See you soon
Bfn
Olivia knocked on Noah’s door.
“What?”
“Open the door, please, Noah.”
The soft thud of footsteps was followed by the door cracking open. A single eye greeted her with suspicion.
“What is it, Mom?”
“You can go to Zach’s and stay over.”
The door opened completely.
“Why?”
“Don’t look a gift horse in the mouth.”
“You’re calling yourself a horse?”
“Pack your stuff and get ready before I change my mind.”
“Thanks Mom.”
“I felt guilty about not bringing alcohol so I brought snacks,” Amanda announced as she entered Olivia’s apartment.
“Whatcha got?”
“Well, let’s see, there’s cheese, crackers, prosciutto, more cheese, grapes and potato chips. I stole the chips from the kids’ not-so-secret stash.”
“Yesss!” Olivia did a little happy dance.
“We’re starting with chips, right?”
“You know me so well.”
“Olivia I’m So Sophisticated Until Someone Opens A Bag Of Chips Benson? Yes, we’re well acquainted.”
Olivia grinned. “I’ll get the wine and cheese plate—you get comfortable.”
“I’m holding the chips hostage.”
By the time Olivia had returned to the room, Amanda had already kicked off her shoes and started to relax.
They sat at either end of the couch facing each other, Amanda cross legged and Olivia sitting on her leg as usual.
“What did your little treasure do to you today?” Amanda asked, putting some brie on a cracker.
“It’s not so much what he did, but how he did it.”
“Tell me about it—Jesse can say ‘fine’ in a way that makes me want to commit a felony.”
“So he announced to me that he was going to stay the night at Zach’s place—not asked, just told me—and then started talking back at me using slang like I’m too old to understand and not faced with smartass kids at work all the time who mouth off in several different languages.”
“What did you do?”
“I said, ‘listen kid, I’m lowkey annoyed right now because you so don’t have enough rizz to get away with this stuff. So go to your room before I get angry AF, bruh.’”
Amanda chuckled as she licked some brie from her thumb, then picked up some grapes and started popping them into her mouth.
Olivia opened her mouth for a grape so Amanda tried to aim for it and missed. Olivia rescued it from her cleavage and put it in her mouth, utterly unperturbed.
“What did he do then?”
“He said, ‘Uggghhh. Don’t.’ and threw his head back as he stomped off to his room and slammed the door.”
“Oh my god—that’s perfect! Noah got Bensoned!”
“Well, he got Mom-ed, anyway. I don’t know if I even said that stuff right, but at least it annoyed him.”
“I know, right? Weaponise their slang. Make them feel as irritated as we do. It’s the only form of retaliation left to us when they hit puberty.”
Olivia grinned.
“There is something else I’ve threatened to do on occasion.”
“Do tell.”
“I may have said that I would give him a cuddle in front of his friends and call him pet names.”
Amanda lit up like a Christmas tree.
“Can I steal that threat? It’s beautiful.” Amanda finished her glass of wine.
“Consider it a gift.”
“Hey, we could go over to Zach’s and take his toy elephant to him and tell his friends that he can’t sleep without it.”
“Oh, that’s too cruel. I love it.” Olivia took another sip of wine then grabbed some more chips.
Amanda dramatically fell back into the cushions.
“I liked it better when they were teething. At least then there was a light at the end of the tunnel. Now it’s misery followed by college, with the added stress of drugs, pregnancy and our knowledge of every felony that can perpetrated against another individual in the world.”
“Um, yeah, thanks for the morale boost, Amanda! More wine?” Olivia asked, pouring it before Amanda even had a chance to answer.
“God, yes.”
“Were you around when Fin convinced Munch that he believed that the CIA were responsible for the Irish Potato Famine? He had Munch all tied up in knots trying to explain to him how the CIA wasn’t created yet! After a while, Fin looked at him deadpan and said, ‘Pranked’. Munch was so pissed he didn’t look at Fin for days.”
The friends were on their second bottle of red now, and the wine was flexing its muscles.
“Awww, that was before my time…Fin did say he ‘missed that skinny ass white dude’ a number of times, though, so that’s a profound declaration of love from him. Munch was something else, wasn’t he?”
“Yeah. I miss him too.” Olivia drank more wine, then started in on the brie and crackers.
“And Cragen. God, he saved me. I’ll always be grateful to him. You—you were like a daughter to him, though. He loved you.”
“I loved him too. He was like a father to me too. I used to cause him so much grief.”
“You? Saint Olivia?”
“Stop it. You, of all people, know that I’m no saint.”
“You do have your moments. But I can’t imagine you being as hard work as I was.”
“You’d be surprised. When Cragen wanted me to sit the sergeant exam, I told him I didn’t want to be in charge of anyone like me.”
“Really? Wow.”
“Why so hard to believe?”
“You can be a pretty tough boss…”
“I’m only tough when I know someone is truly worth it.”
“So, you thought I was worth it?” Amanda fluttered her eyelashes.
“Always,” Olivia said seriously.
“I don’t know, Liv…”
“You disappointed me sometimes. That was hard,” Olivia admitted.
“Yeah, I disappointed myself. I did work really hard on that though,” Amanda said as she grabbed another handful of chips.
“I know. It would’ve broken my heart if you hadn’t.”
“Yeah?”
“Yeah.”
“You’re a big part of why I worked on myself, you know.”
“I am?”
“Uh-huh. Come here—I wanna thank you.”
Amanda stretched her arms out to give Olivia a hug.
“I love you so much,” Amanda said as she drunkenly wrapped her arms around Olivia.
“Awww! I love you too, Manda.”
They didn’t pull away from each other.
They just settled into the hug.
“You smell so good. I love your perfume, Liv.”
“Mmm…thanks, but I’m not wearing any perfume.”
“Oh…”
“But your perfume is beautiful.”
“I’m not wearing any either. I forgot today.”
“Oh. Then, I guess you just smell beautiful.”
Amanda pulled back and looked at Olivia.
“So do you.”
Olivia looked at Amanda’s lips.
“You’re really pretty, Manda.”
Amanda smiled shyly, her eyes dropping to Olivia’s lips.
“I think you’re beautiful, Liv.”
They leaned forward and pressed their lips together.
“That was nice,” Olivia smiled goofily.
“Wanna do it again?”
“Yep.”
They kissed more passionately, then fell apart, giggling.
“Mmmm…” they said in unison.
“We’re drunk.”
Olivia felt it important to make a point.
“But we’re both drunk.”
“So…we can do this, right?” Amanda asked.
“I’m in if you are.”
“Oh, I’m definitely in.”
They kissed with open mouths, tongues touching, then tangling in pleasure.
Olivia started to get handsy as they kissed, and Amanda began to reciprocate with equal enthusiasm.
“Bedroom?” Olivia said, biting her lip.
“Bedroom.” Amanda confirmed, letting Olivia pull her up from the couch.
Olivia’s first thought as she awakened was, ‘My head is killing me.’
Her second thought was more of a train. ‘I’m not alone…I’m naked…last night I was—.’
Her eyes opened wide in realisation.
Amanda was watching her wake up.
“Good morning, sleepy head.”
Olivia wasn’t sure on the etiquette of this, so she just said the first thing that came to mind.
“Amanda.”
“Yes, Liv, we’ve met.”
“I believe we’ve done a lot more than that.”
“I believe we have.”
“So apparently I invited you over last night for wine with myself as a chaser.”
Amanda smirked.
“Buyer’s remorse, Liv?”
“Hmmm… No, actually. I’m remembering everything now…and I’m good with it.”
“Good. Me too.”
“So.”
“So.”
“Your leg is…”
“Yeah, I know, hon.”
“Glad we cleared that up.”
“You’re still holding me, Liv.”
“I noticed.”
“I like it.”
“Me too. I like how you’re moving your leg too.”
Olivia pulled Amanda closer and kissed her.
Amanda’s hand sought the place her leg had been moving against and slipped her fingers inside Olivia.
Olivia moaned as they continued where they’d left off the night before.
Olivia stood in the kitchen wearing a too large Snoopy t-shirt with panties underneath.
She poured the coffee as Amanda, in a similarly large Hello Kitty shirt, buttered some toast.
“I never figured you for a Hello Kitty fan, Liv.”
“A little kawaii never hurt anybody.”
Amanda kissed her on the nose.
“Hey, um, you ever…do this before?”
“Never, actually. You?”
“No. I mean, I have thought about it.”
“Well, sure, but…”
“Can you pass me the peanut butter?”
“Here. Me too, please.”
“I had thought about it with you, though, specifically.”
“You had?”
“You’re objectively hot, Liv.”
“Objectively?”
“Ask anyone.”
“Good to know.”
“How about you? You never…?”
“I…did have this dream once.”
“Spill.”
Olivia froze.
“We had sex.”
“That the best you can do, Liv? Details.”
“Fine. I came in my dream, Amanda. I woke myself up having an orgasm.”
“Fuck, that’s hot.”
“Not as hot as this morning’s.”
“I want to take you back to bed.”
“Noah’s coming home soon.”
“I don’t care. I’m horny. You’re turning me on.”
“I’m horny too. Come on, we need to be quick this time.”
Noah burst through the front door, somehow managing to throw his jacket on the rack, his keys in the bowl, and kick his shoes off simultaneously.
“Mom!”
Olivia was busily cleaning up the remains of the indulgence from the night before.
“Hey Noah, how was the sleepover?”
“Okay. Stayed up kinda late playing games. Did you do anything?”
“Amanda came by. We had some wine. She stayed over.”
“Okay. I’m going to take a nap. Wake me up for lunch?”
“Okay.”
Olivia walked into her bedroom, where Amanda was still getting dressed.
“You tell Noah I’m here?”
“I said we had wine and you stayed over. He said he’s going to take a nap.”
“God bless oblivious teenagers.”
“Yeah. Hey, Amanda?”
“Yeah, Olivia?”
“Do you think you… I mean, you’re probably not interested…”
“Yes I am. I’m absolutely interested.”
“In just doing this again, or…?”
“I’m in for the whole package, if that’s what you’re asking. I’m not going to say no if you’re only interested in fucking each other’s brains out occasionally, but I’ve been quietly hoping that you might be interested in more than that.”
“I really would. I mean, I knew I loved you anyway, but this? Us? I want all of it—now that I know how it feels to be with you. It just feels so right.”
“Kiss me.”
Olivia did.
Amanda giggled.
“Damn, I’m getting wet again.”
“I’m seeing a whole new side of you now, Amanda.”
“You’re making me feel like I’m a horny teenager again.”
“I know what you mean. I feel it too.”
Amanda suddenly laughed out loud.
“What am I missing, hot stuff?”
“The kids are going to lose their minds when they find out!”
Amanda giggled and Olivia laughed so hard she snorted.
“Well, they do say, happiness is the best revenge...”
