Chapter Text
Another day at this god forsaken company…
You had recently gotten a job at this place called “Lobotomy Corporation”, its main location being L Corp in The City.
Now, you would think “Oh, You got employed in a wing? Thats amazing!” And you would be right, it is amazing that someone like you, addicted to caffeine and smoking every now and then, would be ecstatic to be employed. And You were! You got a good job after all, what could go wrong!
Is what you thought until You saw one of your fellow coworkers, Michi was his name, die in front of you due to an Abnormality Breach of O-02-56, otherwise known as “Punishing Bird”
You weren’t informed of this in the singing sheet, but, Apparently L-Corp makes energy by harvesting it by…things called “Abnormalities”. They are supposedly made by the fear of whatever it’s based on or something else, your manager didn’t inform you well on it. All she said was “You’ll be fine! You’re under my team after all!” And walked away to handle the manager.
Not only that, the entire corporation only have 7 Abnormalities so far, and yet everyone is acting like death is expected here. You don’t understand it, sure death is normal in the City, but here? As if it’s a casual Tuesday afternoon? It confuses you.
Along with that, No one is grieving Michi’s death. They told him when O-02-56 broke out not to “Hit The Small Bird”, and “let it wander so you don’t anger it” and when he did, a literal CHUNK of his entire form was taken out of him. A terrific way to start your job here!
Not only that, but apparently the manager decided that who else to wear Punishing Bird’s stuff but you, since you got it’s E.G.O gift, a necklace with a dagger at the end of it to look like a beak!
Now, You’re waking the halls, wearing its E.G.O Suit and Weapon. The suit isn’t that bad, a bit too bright on the colors for you, along with the fact that it just looks like tactical gear but hospital-colored, and the weapon looks…too much like the bird. The white, that giant red blotch of red on it…You shiver, reminding you what had happened to Michi, what you saw when giant beaks rowed with teeth bit down on him…what you never want to see aga-
A sudden voice blares over the speakers
“Punishing Bird has breached containment.”
Oh. Lovely. While you were spiraling a bit, now that damn bird had broken out. You couldn’t be even more glad that it decided to break out. With a loud groan that other employees likely heard in another department, you turn and planned to walk to the “safe zone” of your department.
And right in front of you, is a small bird with a red blotch on its front.
You freeze.
Why…why is that bird here? You’re across the hall from its containment center, it should be on the other side of the damn department! It shouldn’t even be here at all!
The Bird Coos, before approaching you slowly.
You instinctively take a step back, not wanting the same treatment of getting-a-chuck-out-of-you as Michi got. The more it comes closer to you, the more you take a step back.
Your breathing is getting heavier, just staring at this bird as if your sanity is draining by the minutes.
Your back hits the end off the hall, another shiver going up your spine, just watching the bird getting closer after it cornered you. You take a breath and close your eyes to calm yourself down from losing sanity or having a panic attack, unintentionally letting your guard down for the Bird…
And then you feel a weight on your shoulders, along with what sounds like a satisfied chirp.
After opening your eyes to see the bird missing, you look to your side, and see that…the bird had perched on you. On your shoulder. In what seems to be happy and satisfied of its place.
You look at it for a while longer, before trying to shoo it off, without hitting it.
It does not move. Like a stubborn piece of sticky slime that stained your clothes, it won’t come off. It had even moved closer to your head, but still stared ahead.
What?
