Audio Transcript from Commander's Log #1
ILYUKHINA: Yao was taken away, Grace is unconscious, and I think we have been kidnapped by space pirates.
[…]
ILYUKHINA: I should start with a hello, I guess. Hello, Eva! Hello, Earth! Hello, whoever finds these recordings. This is day…. five hundred thirteen (513) of the Hail Mary's travel to Tau Ceti. Technically, it isn't a Commander's Log, this is an engineer take-over. As I mentioned, Yao was stolen away. If he was here, we would be on our merry way to Tau Ceti. It's just me, though.
THE HAIL MARY: Unable to find location. Unable to turn on navigation.
ILYUKHINA: Yes, thank you, Masha. I can't figure out where the Hail Mary is. Our navigation systems have been going a little crazy. I will get to fixing that soon, but… Well, everything is a little overwhelming right now. My brain still feels a little fuzzy. Like I just woke up from a terrible nap.
THE HAIL MARY: Reference points unavailable. Unable to locate Tau Ceti.
ILYUKHINA: Good point, Masha. Stars are gone. It is so dark out there. Hold on, wait, I'll show you the window.
[…]
ILYUKHINA: See? Just darkness. Makes me feel like I'm in Malevich's square, or something. Even Petrovascope isn't showing anything. I tried. Either we are somewhere way off course, or the mission failed before we could actually do anything and the projection of every scientist on Earth was wrong. Considering the space pirates, I will be assuming that it's the former.
THE HAIL MARY: Unable to find location. Unable to turn on navigation.
ILYUKHINA: Masha, бляха муха…
THE HAIL MARY: Are you sure you wish to turn off audible alerts for the next hour? Confirmed.
ILYUKHINA: Thank you. She's been at it since I woke up. Now, where was I? Yes, the space pirates. They didn't give me much information except for the fact that they're called the "Consolidation of Iron" and I'm on house arrest. They said they were going to help Yao. The house arrest part is a gross simplification of the whole event, but you get the point. Again, I had just woken up then.
[…]
ILYUKHINA: I'm debating sending one of the Beetles back to Earth, but until I can get the navigation system working to understand where we are, that seems like a pretty stupid thought. I don't know where Earth is! I don't think I have the fuel or other resources to burn. Who knows how long they are going to keep us here for.
[…]
ILYUKHINA: If this really is only day five hundred thirteen (513), then we aren't even half way to Tau Ceti. Yao might be dying. I am awake. We aren't even half way through.
[…]
ILYUKHINA: I'll keep you posted.
End of transcription.
