Chapter One
Rutile checked the clock on the wall for the 219832th time in the train station, waiting and hoping for the hand to hit 3 jm. The clock’s hands moved all sorts of directions but a sole hand stood there, slowly ticking towards the number 3. The hand had almost hit the number before spinning around the clock counter-clockwise 2 rounds and then stopping on the actual number 3. In this world, time would never be the same that it was in the Living world when she was still alive. 2 yoffas had passed, or closely 0.87 minutes in the Living world had passed.
Welcome to the land of Monsters.
A girl ran up to Rutile, well, more like hobbled. The girl,a marionette, bound with strings and wooden bars, or otherwise known as a puppet, called to Rutile, “Jana!” ‘Jana’ meaning ‘hello’ in the Monster realm. “Apologies for being late. Still getting used to this body.” “Jana,Ms. Yvonne! It’s alright, it was only by a yoffa or two.” There was an awkward silence before Rutile suggested they leave, “Shall we be heading off now, Ms. Yvonne?” She clenched the hand of her doll. “Yes. Let’s.” came from the mouth of the marionette, Yvonne. Rutile smiled as the two girls headed towards the exit.
The vibrant pink sun lit up the orange sky, Rutile’s luscious green hair, was coated in the light pink hue. “Say, Ms. Rutile,” Rutile beamed with a bit of excitement at the sudden statement. “Yes?” “I’ve always wondered… Not to pry on anything, but why is it that you carry around that doll everywhere?” Rutile slowly retracted back into her ‘shell.’ “Well, you see… Back when I was alive, there was this doll I cherished a lot. But after I died, this doll was with me and so, here she is. I’ve named her Ms. Clementine because I thought her blonde hair suited the name. I also have other dresses I can change her in, but this is the one she usually wears on outings such as these. After I had this one, I sought out to look for a career and found a doll-making shop here! It’s run by a beautiful vampire who’s really friendly~! Oh—! Am I talking too much?” Rutile flushed pink and hung her neck down, clearly embarrassed. “No, no. I am very interested in this shop you’re working in. Could you tell me more?” Rutile shone with excitement, “Oh! Well, alright! So the shop is called ‘Odete’s Dollhouse’~! The vampire in charge is named Odete Vael. She’s a really nice woman, but all the children say she’s scary.” Rutile spoke for a long time until both girls had finally reached their first destination. ‘The Bat And Biscuit Café’
The door opened slowly, the bells tolled. Rutile held the door for Yvonne. A friendly Mapinguari welcomed them with a smile, “Welcome ‘to The Bat And Biscuit!’ Have a seat ladies~” The two women sat down at a table near the windows, or what could’ve been windows if it hadn’t been shattered. A goblin walked up to the table holding a stool, a pad of paper and a pen. He placed the stool on the ground and climbed onto it, “What would you like?” Yvonne had thought things through, “I’ll have the Bloody Rose and Raspberry tea with some tiblet cookies.” “A R & R tea and tiblets. Alright. And for you, Miss?” Rutile thought for a moment, “Uhm… I’ll have the Tobacco-moss latte and some of those tiblet biscuits as well.” “T.M. latte and tiblets. Alright!” The goblin jumped off his stool and waddled away.
After some time, the same goblin, along with another one, set down the plates of tea and biscuits. The girls thanked them and started to dig in. Rutile stared at an eyeball floating to the top of Yvonne’s Raspberry-and-something-or-other tea. “Uhm. What is that?” Yvonne giggled as she scooped the eye out and put it on her plate. “Hee-hee~! It’s just what they use as a tea bag. Or at least that's what I think.”
