Chapter Text
When Piers had gotten an emergency email from the BSAA, what he was expecting, wasn't...this. Not by a long shot.
Piers hoped that Rebecca knew he truly wasn't trying to ignore her. His brain was still desperately trying to process what he hearing and what he was seeing.
There was just no way.
Looking directly through the small window through Rebecca's office, there was a small figure sitting in her chair.
A kid. More accurately a little boy. A bit more accurately, Chris Redfield.
The kid in question looked to be at least 7 or 8, although Piers himself couldn't really be sure, he could be older. He was wearing a dark green collar button up and dark brown shorts. His hair reddish-brown and a bit messy. In all honesty it reminded Piers of his own hair.
There was no way in hell this was his captain. Chris Redfield.
"iers...? Piers! Are you listening?"
Rebecca's voice startled him out of his thoughts. "Y-yeah, I'm listening." He shook his head trying to clear it.
Looking back at Rebecca she gave him a reassuring smile."Hey, you gotta stay with me, I know it's a lot to take in." She put a hand on his shoulder."You know you were the only I could call for this, and the BSAA wants to keep this under wraps."
"So how did...this, happen exactly?" Yeah, how did this happened indeed. The young man desperately wanted to know, because this isn't something he would consider remotely normal.
And he knows he's seen things that go far beyond what would be called wired or even crazy.
Now this seemed like something out of a fucking cartoon.
Rebecca let a breath and then turned to glance in Chris' direction.
"There was...an accident, while Chris and HWS was sent to check out some old abandoned Umbrella facility. Let's just say they rest of the squad came back with a small sized injured Chris in Tundra's arms."
The scientist lightly squeezed his shoulder.
"I'm working on a fix but its going to take a little while, probably two to three days." She turns back to Piers and pulls her hand back.
"I've managed to convince him that we are both family friends looking after him for his parents, he has no memory of anything beyond his current age, alright?"
Piers nodds. "How old is he currently?"
"He's eight."
Huh, geuss he was spot on.
"Oh, and if he asks where Claire is, she's with their parents. By his age she would have been only two. As for you, you're a family friend here to watch him for them." She smiled a bit. "It's almost funny how even now he's only got his sister's well-being on the brain."
Piers could see what a small smile on her face.
"It wasn't easy convincing him that Claire was alright. Even at eight he's got that overprotective older sibling instinct locked in."
He laughed a bit. That really didn't surprise him, Piers himself didn't have any siblings but if he did he'd be protective too. Plus, he's seen it from Chris a few times Before.
Piers sighed and started to rub the back not his neck. "Are you really sure I'm the best person to do this. What about jill, you could trust her, right?" If he remembers correctly she was one of his most close friends.
Then again, 'Friend' almost seemed like an understatement for their relationship. But it wasn't his place to judge what they had going on with each other.
Rebecca shook her head. "She unavailable right now, and unless we really had no choice other than you, Clarie's a no as well. "
"Okay, okay, I understand is there anything else I should know?" If was going to do this he might as well not mess it up.
"Yes there is." Turning to the window of her office she pointed tword Chris' arm. "When this whole...incident happened, he had gotten a cut on his arm."
Piers has now noticed the cover of wrapped bandages on the kid's (Chris') upper arm.
How the hell did he get that?
Seemimg to be able to read his thoughts Rebecca quickly answered him.
"It's nothing serious, but it's still something to keep an eye on."
They both stayed silent for a bit, Rebecca broke the silence first. Walking over to the door and putting a hand on the nob, she looked over to him.
"You ready?"
"Yeah...I am." Yes he was, it was for his captain after all. Be it under far a more than normal circumstances.
She opened the door.
Him and Rebecca entering the room seemed to get Chris' attention. He put down the rubik's cube that Piers now noticed he'd been playing with, in his lap.
Man if he didn't believe that this kid was Chris before, he sure did now. There was no one else with Piers knew with eyes like his.
One brown, and the other blue. The hetrochromia was a dead give away. Usually it wasn't something very noticeable, but with his now bigger and rounded childish eyes it was hard not to miss, especially while they stared into his soul.
Piers swears he's never felt this judged in his life, especially not by Chris. Hell he wasn't even this nervous when Chris had over saw him and the army troups while scouting for the BSAA.
But now standing in front of a barley taller than 4ft Chris, who's eyes suddenly seem to be two blue and brown orbs burning holes into him was making Piers more nervous than anything thing else.
Oh he hopes he doesn't fuck this up.
Piers gave a small wave with his hand to the kid. The younger Chris clearly wasn't shy, as he very eagerly smiled and waved back.
God this was so wired.
"Hey Chris," Rebecca started "This is Piers, he's the one you're going to stay with for little while. You remember me telling you?"
The Kid turned to her and then nodded. "Yes, I do."
Piers never thought he ever hear his captain's voice ever sound anything close to squeaky, but here we are. It sounded so light and void of any trauma he knows Chris definitely has.
Yep, he's definitely protecting this kid from anything and everything.
The young Chris got up from his chair and looked up at Piers' face.
"Thank you for coming to watch me mister Piers." Finishing with the sweetest smile he's ever seen.
Piers swears his heart was going to explode. Is this how older siblings feel? If so he's really been missing out.
"It's no problem really." It really wasn't a problem.
"You be good for Piers ok?" She said looking down at Chris.
He nodded his head, grabbing a hold of Piers' hand. " I will Miss Rebecca."
Before leaving Piers was handed a bag of Toys (mostly of puzzle) and clothes for the kid.
With Chris's hand in his, Piers made his way to his car.
It was still fairly dark outside, barley even 6:30. Glancing back down at small figure beside him, he could him rubbing his eyes with his free hand. He's probably tried then.
He Gently put Chris in the passenger seat and placing the bags in back seats, Piers started to drive home.
He lived only an hour and then some away, but it didn't look like Chris was going to make it the whole way there.
Every time he looked over at him the kid could barley keep his eyes open. Head bobbing up and down, nodding himself awake.
While keeping his eyes on the road, Piers reached his right hand to gently tap Chris' shoulder.
"Hey Buddy, it gonna be a while before we get home, go to sleep kay?
Something Chris would mostly likely say to him.
Chris' sleepy eyes meet his for moment, blue and brown. "...Okay.." He then yawned, turned and closed his eyes.
Piers remained quiet for minute.
It was still a bit crazy to him. It was almost to hard to comprehend, that this kid was his Captain. Chris Redfield. The man that just about struck fear into the eyes of any B.O.W, hell, person who ever came across him.
It was kinda like their roles were switched. To be honest Piers had always looked up to his captain. He had always wanted an older brother when he was younger. Damn, actually he probably just wanted any sibling really, brother or sister.
There had been a few times where Piers had noticed Chris' 'Big Brother Instincts', to which Claire had dubbed it, showed.
He'd some times notice Chris' hand hovering behind him when ever Piers seemed unbalanced, or even ruffling his hair when he was proud of him, or when ever he got the chance. Not that he would say it out loud, definitely not to Chris, but he liked it.
Chris always had his back, and when times called for it Piers always had his.
He kept his eyes on the road
Piers would just prove it again.
