Work Text:
Shevy awoke to the sound of her alarm buzzing and sat up slowly, rubbing the sleep from her eyes as she tried to figure out what timezone they were currently in because it felt entirely too early for her to be awake.
Shevy stepped out of her bunk, her bare feet padding against the linoleum as she made her way towards the back lounge to retrieve her charger. It was a travel day so she was more than happy to go back to sleep until she had no other choice than to get up. She opened her phone to see that her long-term boyfriend had texted her. It was more than likely the good morning text that he always sent her. She smiled sleepily, clicking on the text bubble to read the message. Since she had nothing to do for the day, she wanted to FaceTime him.
Shevy's tired smile dropped as she read the words on her screen. She rubbed her eyes furiously, blaming sleep for what she had seen. Shevy stared at her phone in disbelief. There is no fucking way. She reread the message over and over. There was no way she was reading this correctly.
Babe: 'I don't think this is working out. I already moved out of the apartment, I'll give my key to Britt'
I don't think this is working out.
That was it.
Three years and all she got was a fucking text.
She immediately dialed his number, but it went straight to voice mail. What the fuck?!
"You literally cannot be serious right now?! Call me, if you're going to fucking break up with me, do it like an adult, you piece of shit!" She hissed into the phone, trying not to wake anyone. Shevy could not believe this. They had been together for three years, she thought they were happy. He had literally come to visit her on tour a few weeks ago!
Babe: 'I don't think a phone call is a good idea right now.'
Shevy: 'I DON'T GIVE A FUCK WHAT YOU THINK IS A GOOD IDEA'
Shevy: 'YOU JUST DUMPED ME OVER TEXT'
Babe: 'I'm sorry, but we just don't work as a couple'
Shevy: 'oh but we worked 3 weeks ago when you flew out to see me???'
Shevy: 'fucking piece of shit'
Babe: 'I'm sorry'
Babe: 'it's complicated'
Shevy typed a message that she didn't want to send, but did it anyways. It made her sick to think about it, but she needed to know. She needed to understand what happened.
'Is there someone else?'
'Yes'
'Did you fuck her?'
'Yes'
Shevy threw her phone at the couch, crumpling to the ground. She pulled her knees to her chest, burying her face in her folded arms as she tried to muffle the sound of her sobs. She had been cheated on before, but not with someone that serious. It hurt. Shevy felt like her lungs were on fire. How could he do this to her? Did she do something wrong? Being on tour made things harder, she knew that, but she thought they were doing good.
No explanations, no apologies, nothing. Like he was switching laundry detergent or trying a new restaurant. Like the last three years meant absolutely nothing to him. Like I meant nothing to him. Shevy bit down on her lip to try and stay silent. She didn't want to wake anyone because she was crying over a man of all things.
Disgusting.
She tried to regain composure, but it was impossible. She couldn't breathe. Her heart hurt so deeply, she could physically feel it breaking. This was horrible. Shevy wanted to crawl into her bunk and never leave it again. She was coming home in a week. A fucking week. He really couldn't have waited seven days to dump her? Shevy wanted to throw up. She couldn't remember the last time she cried this hard. It felt like she could pass out from all the pressure in her head.
Shevy heard the door of the lounge open quietly. Fuck. Maybe if she stayed still, whoever it was wouldn't notice her? It was futile, but god was she desperate. If it was someone like Yanni- or hell even Jake- they would probably just leave her be and ask later. That was preferable.
"Shev? Are you okay?"
Goddammit.
Of course it was Andy.
Without looking at him, she gave him a thumbs up, still sobbing into her knees. She heard the door close, but could still feel his presence in the room. "That was very convincing, Shev. Have you considered acting?" He said dryly.
Shevy let out a wet laugh, flipping Andy off. He was such a fucking smartass. He would probably just make a few jokes and then leave her be.
"You don't have to tell me. I just want to know you're okay." He said in that oh so earnest tone that practically bled compassion and empathy. Andy's love language was teasing so he was rarely serious, but when he was, it was jarring. You couldn't not tell Andy all of your problems when he was like this.
"My boyfriend just told me he cheated on me and broke up with me." She mumbled, her voice muffled and thick with tears. She felt stupid and more than a little childish. Here she was, crying her eyes out in front of her boss over a breakup. Shevy might not be able to show her face today. She was mortified.
The door opened once more and closed again with a soft click. Shevy didn't blame him for dipping. It was an awkward situation and she would probably leave too. It was probably better this way though. She would die of humiliation if he actually said something or stayed there and watched her cry awkwardly. The door opened again a few moments later and she only looked up when Andy cleared his throat. She lifted her head, her eyes landing on the items in Andy's hands.
Her favorite flavor of monster, a protein bar, a bottle of water, and her favorite candy.
He sat criss-crossed on the floor across from her, handing her the items. She stared dumbly at them, unsure of how to respond when Andy finally spoke. "We can talk about it, I can leave. Whatever you need." He said, his voice calm and gentle. Not at all pushing or pressing, just giving her the space to decide.
"Can I have a hug and rant?" She asked, more than a little embarrassed. She was starving though and that protein bar was calling her name.
Andy chuckled fondly and he nodded, opening his arms. Shevy crawled over to his left side, leaning into him as he wrapped his arm around her, rubbing her arm gently. He watched as she tore open the protein bar, taking a bite. He didn't speak, didn't push her to speak, just let her eat. Shevy swallowed down a few bites, opening her monster to wash it down and sighed.
Andy held her as she ranted. She cried, cursed her ex, called him every name she could think of. Andy only listened, chiming in with a word or a hum of acknowledgement once in a while- sometimes just a simple "fuck him"-, but otherwise, he stayed silent, running a hand through her hair comfortingly as angry, heartbroken words spilled from her lips.
"I just don't get why though?" She said, her voice small. "What did I do to deserve this?"
"Shev, you didn't do anything. He's a dick." Andy said, glancing down at her.
"Why would he do this to me?" She asked, more to herself than anything. Andy answered anyways though because when does Andy ever miss out on a chance to talk?
"Because you were too good for him and he hated it. He wanted to bring you down to his level and when he couldn't, he decided to hurt you." Andy hummed softly, his nose wrinkling as her sleep messy hair tickled his face.
She nodded, sipping on her monster. "He sucked."
"Yes he did. He was a loser." Andy agreed. He had never met the guy, but he could only assume he sucked.
"He was such a fucking loser. Why did I date him for that long?" Shevy groaned. She was still hurt and heartbroken, but yeah. He wasn't exactly prince charming.
"Beats me, Shev." Andy chuckled. The two fell into a comfortable silence. Shevy opened the bag of candy, picking through it until she came across her favorite flavor.
"How did you know I like all of this?" Shevy asked, lifting her head to look at him.
"Surpisingly, I do pay attention sometimes." He said jokingly. It was still sweet though. Shevy doubted her own now ex boyfriend could have picked any of this out for her.
Okay. Shevy could see why none of her friends ever liked him now.
"The water was just because crying makes you dehydrated to be fair." Andy continued.
Shevy snorted, sitting up. She pulled away from the hug, wiping the remnants of her tears away. She pulled her scrunchy off of her wrist, tying her hair into a messy bum to get it out of her face. She was still a bit embarrassed, but not completely. Shevy went from wanting to die on the spot to simply wanting to swear Andy to secrecy on threat of maim or torture. "You're pretty good at handling a crying girl, Andy."
"Thank you?" Andy's face twisted in confusion, making Shevy laugh. "I'm going to go back to bed. Get some sleep, Shevrolet." He stood up, groaning like an old man as he stretched his back.
"Thank you for putting up with this." Shevy said, adjusting her messy bun.
"I wasn't putting up with anything." Andy rolled his eyes. He didn't see it as anything significant. He was just being there for a friend.
"You didn't have to do all of that though." Shevy argued. Shevy has had guy friends. Most of the time they would just threaten to beat up the guy that cheated on her and be done with it. Andy actually tried to make her feel better.
"I brought you snacks and gave you a hug. That's the bare goddamn minimum, Shevy." Andy said, his face scrunching up incredulously. "I am very concerned about what you think is above and beyond, Shev."
"Oh my god, just let me say thank you, fucking idiot." She huffed in annoyance. At this point, hitting him may be easier.
Andy flashed an amused smile, his raven hair hanging in his face. He grabbed the door knob, twisting it open. "You're welcome."
