Chapter 1: the water flow

Chapter Text

East Blue Sea.

"I think you're being stupid, again." Rosalie remarked as she sat opposite her younger brother, ignoring every thought that is flowing through his mind. "And you're talking to a bird.... Great."

And here, I thought. I was the crazy one. I mean, I am! But maybe, more crazy than him, or I'm just ranting; probably the latter, yeah.

"Ever since I was a kid, Shanks would tell me stories about pirates and their adventures. So, yeah, the sea's been calling." Luffy said.

Rosalie softly giggled. "You can't swim, fyi."

Luffy ignored her and continued talking to the News Coo, "My sister's right. I can't exactly swim, but you get the idea."

And also, the ship is sinking, but apparently, my brother's working on it. We're still going to sink, nevertheless! But he's got it!

"I'm setting out to follow my dream, to find the One Piece and become King of the Pirates!"

"I swear you're delusional, but I still love you!" Rosalie teased in her normal way that she would tease her brother.

"All I need is a loyal. I think about 10 men should do! "Luffy said as Rosalie just nodded in return. "Are you listening, sis?"

"Yes," she said, "I'm listening to you talk to a bird while our ship sinks!"

"I'm working on it!" Luffy reminded her as she rolled her eyes. The News Coo squawked, reminding Rosalie that the bird was there.

"Well, 10 men and a bird. It's not gonna be easy. The ocean is....is pretty big and kind of dangerous." Luffy said as the bird squawked, prompting Luffy to stand on a barrel. "So, what do you say? Are you with me?"

The bird squawked, looking at both Luffy and Rosalie before flying away. "You scared him off, Ros!"

"M-me?!" Rosalie feigned annoyance to him. "I didn't scare him off, you did!"

Water sloshed from below, both of them now realizing the boat is doomed. "I swear this is all your fault!" Rosalie chimed.

"You joined me, sis." Luffy breathed as he emptied a barrel of fish to hop into, Rosalie did the same, grabbing a hold of the barrel's front. "That I did, so I guess it's both our faults. We better get pulled into the same boat, together."

"Let us hope," he responded as they both climbed into their barrels before the boat sunk, letting the water take them both away. Rosalie could swear she heard Luffy utter. "Oh man. It's my first day."

She sighed as the waters took her away, she didn't know what would be in store for her next... if she reached land, as she hoped that she would.

°❀.ೃ࿔*

3 days later.

She felt the water drip down on her body, she wanted to ask herself if the barrel had broken, but... she wasn't in the barrel or near the water, she didn't know where she was.

She closed her eyes and tried to focus on the voices she could hear in her head, none of them she recognized...except one.

Wait, Luffy? Is that him? No, no. I'm dreaming, aren't I? I'm fucking dreaming. Great..... I'm going even more crazy. Just great for me!

Rosalie looked around her and she was definitely in some sort of infirmary. She just wasn't sure where, she breathed once more as she got off the bed and looked around, seeing a window and there Luffy was, sneaking into the marine base, she knew what she had to do—that was to escape.

I guess I'm going to find him, wherever he's going.

She heard the door to the infirmary and prepared to hide, when Luffy came inside, she ran up to hug before an orange haired girl pushed him inside, so they could hide. "What are you doing here?" Luffy asked, whispering.

"I don't know! I woke up here!" Rosalie said, "I think I've been here, since our boat sunk-"

"Would you two be quiet—" the other girl said, whispering so they would not get caught, as a group of marines walked past the infirmary. They soon exited the infirmary as Rosalie followed behind the two.

"That's your plan? Just walk into Axe-Hand Morgan's office and ask him for the map?"

"It's a stupid plan!" Rosalie commented, whacking him on the back of the head.

"I may have to fight him for it. Why do they call him Axe-Hand anyways?"

"You are going to get us both caught, if you keep stomping around this place."

"Luffy, for once, stop this. As she said, you will get us caught or killed, both are just as bad!" Rosalie replied, grabbing his shoulder.

"We need a plan!" Nami replied.

"Thank you! Exactly, what I've been saying!" Rosalie said, before she could hear someone's thoughts—this person had authority. Power.

Axe-Hand Morgan. He's coming.

She closed her hand, letting herself become invisible. The orange-haired girl looked at Luffy, wanting where Rosalie went, but they halted upon running into Captain Morgan.

So that's what he looks like.

"Captain Morgan, sir. I was just escorting this prisoner to the brig. He was arrested for causing a disturbance in the square."

"Yeah." Luffy replied, "Prisoner," Captain Morgan stepped forward, getting in Nami's face; Rosalie could hear her internal thoughts but she chose to ignore them, letting her speak first.

"I'm a transfer from the 77th, sir."

"What's your name, Private?" Axe-Hand asked, his axe hand against her neck.

"Nami, sir." she gulped. "I put in a request to service under your command."

So, Nami. That's her name.

Rosalie watched Morgan remove his axe-hand against her neck, she could sense Nami's pressure and breathing go down.

"Wise choice," he said, "I expect great things from you."

"Yeah, she's the best!" Luffy replied in a teasing matter. Morgan glared across at Luffy; who is supposed to be acting as a prisoner. "I-I mean, she's the best of the worst. I hate the Marines—"

Rosalie face-palmed herself, feeling the embarrassment die, wanting her younger brother just to be quiet. Nami shook her head and looked back at Morgan.

"Carry on," he snarled as he shoved Luffy away with his non-axe hand. Luffy gasped slightly.

"That was amazing. Admit it. We do make a pretty good team."

Rosalie sighed, letting her cloaked form fade, now appearing back in sight.

"Where the fuck did you go?!" Nami asked.

"It's a whole thing" Rosalie said. "I'll explain later. Promise!"

"And, we are not a team," Nami said sternly, pointing at Luffy, as she stormed off towards Morgan's office, Rosalie followed swiftly behind her.

"Whatever you say." Luffy answered as he followed them.

Rosalie and Nami talked for a bit as they walked to Morgan's office. "How can you do that?"

"Do what? Turn invisible?"

"Yeah—that."

"It's actually called cloaking. It's basically where I can psychically make myself invisible."

"And....how long have you been able to do this?"

"Since I was 16."

"And? What else can you do?"

"That's another thing for later, trust me," Rosalie smiled as Nami opened the door to Morgan's keys—that she had stolen from him, Rosalie had to admit—Nami was pretty impressive.

All three entered the office and Rosalie closed the door, locking the door.

"I'm going to find the map, and Rosalie will help. Pretend you're not here." Nami said as she dragged Rosalie along with her.

"Why did you ask me for help?"

"Cause you can help me."

Rosalie chuckled. "I can't, but go on."

Nami spoke up to Luffy. "Why do you want the map so badly anyway?"

"I'm gonna use it to find the One Piece and become King of the Pirates."

Rosalie chuckled. "H-he's joking... by the way, totally joking."

"Figures." Nami scoffed.

"What?" Luffy responded.

"Every idiot dreams of finding the One Piece. People like you believe in something and you don't know what it is."

"That's exactly what I keep telling him," Rosalie bit out. "My brother's stubborn, he doesn't know when to listen."

"Well, yeah! Don't you?" Luffy said. "So, why did you decide to become a thief?"

Rosalie rolled her eyes at her brother's questioning.

"I didn't decide. I needed to eat. You do what you have to, to survive." Nami answered, her voice seizing and Rosalie detected a hint of anger in her tone.

"You're right. Nothing more important than food."

"Could you maybe hurry and find the map already, Luf? I need to get out of here, the voices are fucking killing me." Rosalie snarled.

"The voices?" Nami asked curiously.

"Oh—" Rosalie snickered. "Did I forget that I hear people's voices in my head, it's apart of being a telepath—that part is more a curse than anything."

"God. That must suck."

"You don't know the half of it" Rosalie sighed, as Luffy inadvertently triggered a switch that causes a safe to emerge from the floor, all three looked at the safe, Rosalie breathed softly, feeling something move in her mind.

"I can feel it inside. The map."

"How can you?"

"A telepathic thing?" Rosalie shrugged as they all heard the alarm sounding. "Well, shit," she mused.

"Uh... do you think they we're here?"

"Uh? Yeah, dumbass! Only reason they'd sound the alarm cause we infiltrated their base." Rosalie hummed.

"I think they're after the other thief and idiot pirate trying to steal a map," Nami teased, Rosalie felt like her heart warm upon not being included in Nami's words.

Then banging came from the door. "We might wanna get out of here, soon. They're about to break the door down."

"Working on it!" Nami said, "Trust."

"I have an idea." Luffy said, as he started pulling the safe from the ground. "That's your idea?" Nami said as both girls helped Luffy pull the safe from the floor of the floor, but the sudden force from the safe being broken out from the floor launched the three out the window and into the clearing down below.

Rosalie groaned as she landed on the ground next to Nami, she felt her head pound, but soldiers from the Marines—sent by Captain Morgan swarmed the three and she knew it was fighting time.

Men surrounded the three and they all fought them off, including Rosalie, who used her psychic powers to make them feel pain—while they're distracted, she grabbed their blades and threw it into their stomachs.

She maneuvered her feet off the ground, still clutching her blade as she stabbed 3 more Marine soldiers in the stomach before she sliced them across the stomach, making them fall to the ground.

As she continued to slice and cut the soldiers, she noticed someone—it made her heart almost race immediately and she got distracted, the blade flung from her hand and she composed herself in due time and reached for the blade, swinging it at the soldiers' face, cutting their cheek before she moved herself back into position and kicked the soldier away.

Then the person who distracted her before came into the fighting, knocking down three Marines before the group assembled into four. Rosalie stood next to Nami, blood was trickling down her hands from the blade she was using.

"Aren't you the drunk from the bar?" Nami asked.

"Glad I made an impression," he answered, his eyes almost digging into Rosalie's form—but she was sure that she was dreaming.

Then Morgan appeared, his form tall and overbearing, "The imposter, the pirate hunter, the prisoner and the psychic. Fancy that. The four of you working together." he sniveled.

"Yeah. We're a crew!" Luffy chimed in

"Nope, not a crew! Not together," Nami, Rosalie and Zoro answered in unison.

"No enemy has escaped my wrath. I alone defeated the Black Cat Pirates. I alone captured Kuro of the Thousand Plans. And I alone keep Shells Town safe from the scum of the East Blue." Morgan rasped as he ripped off his vest.

Rosalie snickered and sarcastically clapped. "Wow.... great. That's like... really cool and all, but I wanna continue fighting," she shrugged. "Kinda sounds like fun!"

The four stared at Morgan in a deaths' eyes battle before Zoro gave the first attack, trying to hit Morgan with Luffy joining him, Rosalie and Nami continued to handle the rest of the foot soldiers.

Rosalie used her blade to stab the soldiers in their weakest points, so they could come down more easily.

Eventually, Zoro and Luffy get the upper hand working together and defeat Morgan, with the latter using a stretching kick to kick Morgan aside.

"I hate to break up this beautiful moment, but we need to ger this safe out here." Nami said.

"Maybe if we find some rope or something-" Rosalie replied before Zoro picked up the safe with his bare muscles, her heart flustering. "Or yeah, we can do that." she answered as they left the Marine base and walked back to Luffy's boat.

Rosalie had managed to shut all the voices away in her head, so for once, it felt quiet and not insane—like dozens of people were talking about their thoughts inside her. She was actually grateful for once.

Zoro placed down the safe and Nami glared at him. "Be careful with that."

"Whatever you say," he said gruffly. "Wait. I don't care, I don't work for you."

"I'm sensing a little bit of tension among the crew."

"Not a crew, Luffy." Rosalie answered. "Now, please shut up. You're being too loud and my head actually feels quiet for once, so I'd like to keep that way!" she snarled as she walked further into the boat.

"God...please, please. Go away—" she mumbled to herself, she wanted the voices to go away, but they wouldn't. Constant thoughts, constant talking.

Fuck. Fuck. It's like everything is autopilot.

"Why won't people just shut the fuck up!" Rosalie rubbed her eyes, wanting to go to sleep, but the voices wouldn't let her.

Shut up, shut up. Go away! I want to sleep, please, please just sleep.

She collapsed into an empty cot, hoping sleep would overcome her senses and finally let her sleep and at least, she closed her eyes and the voices had shut up and it was silence—exactly what she preferred.

°❀.ೃ࿔*

When she woke hours late, it was now dark and she put her feet on the ground, falling onto the wood almost immediately—she clutched the side of the ship, feeling her legs wobble. As she slid her feet back into her boots, she stepped outside, going through the curtain and into the main area of the ship.

Before she could get her bearings right, her senses were overwhelmed by Luffy hugging her. "Are you feeling okay?"

"Yeah, I-I'm fine." Rosalie choked out, feeling the overwhelming feelings slightly returning as she pushed away from her younger brother's hug.

"Are you sure?" Luffy said.

Rosalie rolled her eyes at him. "I said I was fine, didn't I?" she breathed as she pushed past her brother and Nami who was leaning against Morgan's safe while she tried to figure out how to open it.

Rosalie stood away, trying to not let the inner voices of the other people around her invade her mind or space—though it was threatening to do so.

Locks were clicking as Nami moved her hands against the locks, trying to solve it, while Luffy swung around on the ropes above.

"Can you not do that?" Nami said, her voice annoyed.

"Sorry. It's hard to sit still."

"Can't be that hard," Rosalie mused under her breath.

Luffy landed on the ground. "I'm feeling so...so piratey."

"You're not a pirate." Rosalie whispered, leaning against the side of the ship.

"Yeah? Well, you're gonna end up feeling watery if I have to throw you overboard!" Nami mused angrily. "I told you I need absolute silence."

Rosalie breathed, her breathing shaky but she could easily calm herself down. Words were about to come out of Luffy's mouth.

"Luffy, shut up. And sit down." Rosalie told Luffy and she watched as Luffy did as she commanded and Nami could finally breathe. "Thank you, Ros. At least you're helpful."

"No probs!" she smiled at Nami and saluted to her as she continued working on the safe.

Nami pressed her ear to the safe more times before hearing it click, she gasped as she turned the handle, opening the safe.

"You did it!" Luffy exclaimed, as Rosalie walked over to them and Nami pulled out a golden tube from the safe before she closed the safe.

Zoro also came out of his area within seconds, Rosalie looked at her to do anything but look at Zoro. She pulled out a map.

"That's it? Isn't there supposed to be gold inside a safe? Or jewels."

"Well, not always. And there's a map." Rosalie put in. "So, we'll actually know where we're going."

"Yeah, like Rosalie said. And this is more valauble than gold, it's knowledge." Nami put in. "The Grand Line."

"The Grand Line. Ah. It's just-"

"You're going to the Grand Line and you don't know where it is?"

"He doesn't know." Rosalie put in. "He just thinks he knows."

"Guess I need a navigator on my crew." Luffy added before Nami rolled her eyes and moved over to an empty compartment where she laid the map out. Nami started to draw a basic map of the world for everyone to understand. Rosalie had seen maps before and understood them to an extent, so this was more of a refresher to her.

"East Blue. North Blue. West. South." Nami explained as she drew a squiggly line down the middle of the drawing on the wood. "This thin strip of land that circles the globe is called the Red Line, and the band across the middle is the Grand Line."

"A treacherous stretch of ocean with bigger islands, bigger cities and bigger pirates. Flush with riches and ripe for the picking."

"And that's where we're gonna find the One Piece!" Luffy said, Rosalie scoffed in annoyance.

"I've taken out a lot of pirates, looking for that thing. What is it? A big diamond or something?"

"It's Gold Roger's treasure. He hid it somewhere in the Grand Line. All in one piece."

"It's a myth! The reason why no one's found it in 22 years is that it doesn't exist."

"Exactly what I've been saying to my brother this entire time!" Rosalie put in. "It doesn't exist, like Nami said. My brother needs common sense, I swear to god-!"

"Can't wait to see the look on your faces when we find it."

"If we find it." Rosalie said and before anyone could say anything else, an distant explosion sounded. "Is that the Marines?"

"How did they find us?" Nami also asked, the four of them walked out of the compartment and saw red in the sky. Now it was clear. That was NOT the Marines.

"The smoke smells weird," Luffy said before Zoro and Nami fell down.

"Gods." Rosalie murmured, the smoke getting into her senses. "Luf...Luffy-" she groaned before she fell to the ground, her vision blurring and her eyes closing into the darkness.
