Under The Stars With You

Summary:

Stars guide, and stars remind. Hoseok had always looked to the stars for direction and reassurance, but one star in particular shines brighter than all the rest. None lead him as securely or lovingly as his Jimin.

Finding themselves wrapped in each other and the past, the present suddenly looks awfully familiar from their shared point of view. Stars fall, but their love will burn long after the last light fades from the night sky.

~or~

Jimin and Hoseok take a walk down memory lane while sharing some blissful time alone. History finds a way to repeat itself while their tether to one another only tightens.

Work Text:

“Jimin-ah! I’m going outside for a bit!” Hoseok called out in the hall of their rented home after changing into comfier clothing; a pair of baggy grey sweatpants and one of their black extra tour shirts. The group have just finished their Las Vegas stop of their world tour and they are now enjoying their much needed downtime before they board for Busan.

Namjoon and Jin took the time to walk the streets of the city, earning themselves their “bonding time” while Yoongi went shopping for music equipment, claiming Vegas has “top notch brands”. The last thing they heard from Taehyung and Jungkook was the sound of his motorcycle starting up and driving away so it just left Jimin and Hoseok to the whole house. Not that they are complaining of course.

When Hoseok heard a faint sound of acknowledgement from the bathroom, He made his way outside to the sun loungers that sat by the pool. It was currently evening, the sun starting to set over the mountainside making the air a lot cooler than it was earlier and making the sky a beautiful shade of purple and orange.

Hoseok let out a deep sigh as he sat down on one of the sun loungers, taking in the sight all around him; the poolside, the city, the lights. The sky.

Hoseok always loved the sky. The way the clouds form when the wind hits, making them merge and break, shaping into something brand new. The constant hue changes its color as time moves forward, turning from warm colors to cool back to warm, till its nothing but pitch, stars taking over for the sunlight. His favorite part. Even as a child he would just sit and look up at the little dots littering the black canvas; constellations hiding among the many bundles of gas, showing off its incredible shapes.

Some time later, Hoseok’s eyelids start to lower and his vision going dark, slowly dozing off as the sun starts to shine behind the hills, a tell, as it  transforms the sky to a light navy blue. A few stars are already starting to show itselves to the world and to Hoseok’s vision as he softly drifts off.

~

Hoseok and Jimin have always been attached at the hip, even since their pre-debut days. You could not get these two away from each other for more than 2 days, always one holding onto the other as if they were to be separated, they would simply cease to exist. The two always knew their bond was that of soulmates, the missing piece of each other’s puzzle. Though it didn't mean that either of them took the leap and confessed their obvious feelings for the other right away. There was always that small fear on both sides that if one were to confess that their feelings were more than platonic, the other wouldn't feel the same. But when the members had had enough of their antics, It was Yoongi who had pushed Jimin, the one who went to Yoongi for advice, to just “Get his ass in gear and literally get that ass”. It wasn't until a week later that Jimin brought a tired Hoseok out to the balcony of their dorm, the stars and the moon their only source of light as it softly illuminated their silhouettes. Jimin knew Hoseok’s ways of escaping when he gets into one of these moods and he knew that  this day would be the perfect opportunity to get him out of it.

When they both stepped outside, Hoseok was breathless as he looked up, seeing the tunnel of the Milky Way shining over the night sky. Hoseok leaned his head on his arms on the railing as Jimin followed suit, gazing at the sight above them.

“It's so beautiful” Hoseok says softly, eyes bouncing from one star to the next, one appearing brighter than the other.

“It really is,” Jimin replies back. But he is no longer looking up, he’s looking at another star, and it's shining right by him. They stay quiet for a while, just admiring their sights.

“You know, sometimes I feel like a star.” Hoseok says, cutting the silence.

Jimin starts to giggle at the boy’s words, his eyes slightly crescenting “Well, I mean…”

“Aish, not in that way, we aren't there yet” Hoseok chuckles back, rolling his eyes. “I feel like a star because up there, they are just sitting there. Idly. Not in any rush to get anywhere.” He pushes himself up, leaning his hands on the railing, not moving his gaze away from the sky. Jimin stays silent as Hoseok continues.

“I feel like that often. Just, stuck. Like I'm not getting anywhere and yet rushed to go somewhere.” Hoseok then looks away from the sky and now at Jimin, whose eyes never left his, filled with so much love for the older. “I just feel like, at any moment, I'll explode like they do, just out of nowhere. The stress of this album, the need to learn everything that Yoongi-hyung and Joon-ah know, it's just, it's so much. Instead of shining, I feel like I'm dimming out. It really makes me think, "Am I really doing enough?” Hoseok looked down at his slightly shaking hands, tears starting to sting his eyes, dark circles are evident from the last few sleepless nights.

Jimin hated seeing this on his Hyung: this sorrow, this pain, the feeling of not being good enough. It’s like a knife is being stabbed in his heart, and then twisted. He wished he could just take it all away.

A few tears start to fall on Hoseok’s hands as he closes his eyes, knuckles white from him gripping the railing. He opens his eyes again slightly when he feels a warm hand land on his.

“Hyung, you know that is not true. You are doing so much. So much for us. So much for the group. You shine so brightly that Namjoon basically has to wear sunglasses” Jimin chuckles as he brings his free hand up to wipe the stray tears from Hoseok's cheeks. “You’ve been working so hard on this, on everything, without so much as a single thought for yourself, only focusing on making sure everyone else was okay. But we both know we all have our limits and we need to allow breaks.” Jimin murmurs as he interlocks his hand with Hoseok’s, a light blush starts spreading across Hoseok’s tear stained face at the gesture. Thank god it's too dark for him to be seen clearly.

“A star doesn't shine bright forever, sometimes it needs a break to dim so it can keep shining.”

Hoseok just nods as he looks away. Silence finds them again, but it's not awkward. In fact, it's very comforting. Feeling Jimin’s warm hand in his makes him feel grounded, like everything will be alright, no matter what.

Jimin lifts his head as their surroundings start to slightly light up, looking up to see the exact reason why they came out here in the first place. He jumps in excitement as he starts to shake Hoseok’s shoulder to get his attention.

“Hobi-Hyung, look!”

Hoseok looks Jimin’s way, seeing his features full of excitement, smile so wide it's turning his eyes into crescents as they look back up at the sky. Hoseok follows his gaze to see streams of light flash across the black, star scattered canvas.

A meteor shower.

Hoseok’s eyes widen at the sight, watching as the meteors turn into a variety of faint colors as they race across the black ocean. One in front of others, some on top while some are lower, but all surrounding them as they shoot across. It’s incredible. He smiles as he watches while Jimin looks away from them and instead looks at Hoseok.

“Did you know? About this?” Hoseok whispers, now looking back at Jimin when he feels his gaze.

Jimin just shrugs. “Maybe I did. You’ve been working so hard, you needed an escape for a little while. And what better way to do it than to be where you love being the most?”

Hoseok looks down at their hands, still interlocked, it gives him the courage to speak up, hesitantly looking back up at a smiling Jimin.

“You know, this isn't actually where I love to be the most” He turns so he's now facing the shorter boy fully, gaze not leaving his.  "It used to be, but now it's actually my second.”

Jimin tilts his head in small confusion, but a smile still sits on his face, growing shy as he faces Hoseok’s frame as well. “Then what's the first?”

Hoseok glances at Jimin’s lips and back to his eyes. Biting his own as a blush starts to make its way to the tips of his ears as he leans forward, kissing Jimin’s cheek instead at the last second, feeling the lips would be pushing a boundary. He pulls away just as quickly as he leaned in, the blush quickly reaching his face, turning him crimson.

“My favorite place, is wherever you are, Jimin-ah. You are the star that keeps me shining. Everytime I see one, I just think of you. Someone who shines so brightly when doing what they love. You radiate with so much energy with every passion you create, and it's just, god it makes me love you even more.”

Jimin just stands there in shock at the confession, ears feeling hot as he lightly presses the pads of his fingers to where Hoseok’s lips landed. Fuck.

“Fuck” Jimin murmers, looking down. But then he starts to laugh, making Hoseok look at him worryingly.

“Jung Hoseok, you fucking idiot, why must you beat me to it first?” He looks up at the spikey haired boy again, seeing the pout on his lips. The little mole on his upper lip temptingly resting on the corner as he pouts. He jumps forward and locks their lips together in a kiss, knocking Hoseok back a little and it feels like stars are exploding. Hoseok’s lips are soft, a little bit chapped, the taste of toothpaste still evident on them but it feels so good. Hoseok eagerly returns the kiss after being brought back, snaking his free hand up and bringing Jimin closer by the nape of his neck, closing his eyes. Their other hands still interlocked. The kiss has no hint of fervent, nor is it rushed. It’s slow and it’s passionate and it's.

It’s everything they wanted and more.

Jimin is the first to pull away as they break apart, both lightly panting as they rest their foreheads together, Hoseok opens his eyes first, lips parting with a small gasp. “You are my star Jimin-ah”

Jimin opens his soon after to look at him back. “And as you are mine” The meteor shower slowly nearing it end in the background as they embrace into a kiss once again.

~

Hoseok woke up to his shoulder being lightly nudged, slowly opening his eyes as he took in his surroundings. The sun has set and stars are starting to show more prominently. He must’ve not been out for no longer than an hour. He sits up in his lounger rubbing his eyes as he sees Jimin standing by him, hand still resting on his shoulder.

“Morning sleepyhead” Jimin chuckles.

Hoseok just hums in response, still slightly waking up. “What time is it?”

“Around 9pm, you were still asleep by the time I came outside.” Jimin practically coos at the sight of his boyfriend, still sleepy eyed with a slight pout at his lips. He leans down as he gives him a small kiss, Hoseok easily returning with a hum.

“You Hungry?” Jimin asks as he pulls away. Hoseok's stomach, as if on cue, starts to rumble.

They both look down at the source of the sound, and then back at each other, a laugh escaping from both of them. He supposes he hasn't eaten since their performance and he mentally smacks himself at forgetting. Jimin would kill him if he were to find out.

“I think that's the answer to the question” Hoseok answers as he gets up from where he was sitting, stretching as he finally wakes up enough to see his boyfriend in his full glory.

He’s wearing a pair of old sweats with one of Hoseok’s old T-shirts that he stole from his closet when they were still roommates. It's an old faded white short sleeve with a small print on the pocket that neither could remember what it used to be. His long,  blonde hair is pulled up in a ponytail and a towel rests around his shoulders, indicating he was fresh out of the shower and Hoseok's heart flutters. So beautiful.

“I think so too, c’mon lets go see what the camera crew left for us.” Jimin grabs Hoseok’s hand in his and leads them both back inside towards the kitchen.

~

The kitchen is on the smaller side, but it's very modern and supplies everything they need. Jimin goes to check the cupboard while Hoseok makes his way to the fridge. It is their final day so they aren't too surprised there isn't much to see from either side. When Hoseok turns up with nothing but drinks and a couple condiments in the fridge he closes the door and turns to jimin who now has instant ramen bowls in his hands. Their Instant bowls. Well thats typical, just like the drinks in the fridge, the exact brand.

“Ramen sound good?”

Food is food, so he agrees with a shrug.

“Do we have the Blue one?” Hoseok asks and Jimin just lifts and shakes said blue bowl above him as he turns his back to start boiling the water. Hoseok just laughs at the gesture as he takes his phone out of his pocket. He knows him so well.

He opens the music app and connects it to the speakers connected to the walls of the house, pressing play on their playlist and soon after a soft strum of a guitar starts to resonate in the room. Say You Won’t Let Go By James Arthur starts to play. Perfect choice.

“Oh my god Hyung, seriously? This song??” Jimin exaggerates dramatically as he fills the teapot on the stove with water and sets the nob till it clicks a few times and a flame ignites from under the guards. “This song is so cheesy.”

He just hears a low chuckle from behind him as he feels arms start to snake around his middle, a firm chest pressing up on his back as he waits for the water to be hot enough to pour into the bowls beside them.

Hoseok rests his chin on his boyfriend's shoulders, a loving sparkle in his eyes as he looks at the shorter blonde. “It’s cheesy because we danced to this song on our first date. A song you chose for the DJ to play.” Hoseok coos as he boops Jimin’s nose, the other trying to get away but to no avail. He just gets a long groan of embarrassment in return.

Jimin took Hoseok out on a date to a little night club a few days after their moment on the balcony. Not one of those rowdy, lights shooting everywhere and sweaty bodies swaying tightly together on the floor kind, but one where you can enjoy yourself while also being comfortable. That night the place was holding a dance night; request a song and show off your stuff!

The dinner itself was lovely, both satisfied with the meal choices as they indulged in conversations of various topics. Some time later, the nightclub was announcing requests on who would want to have played during their “set”. Jimin wasted no time in doing so, meaning he got the first spot right away.

When Jimin started to make his way back to their table, the strum of guitar strings started to play from the booth’s speakers. As the shorter man makes his way back to their table he stands in front of Hoseok and extends his hand, a smile resting on his face while Hoseok looks up at him in shock. “Care for a dance?”

And the rest was history from there.

Aish I had so much confidence in myself that night” Jimin groans as he hides his face in his hands after he pours the now steaming water into their soon-to-be meals. Hoseok just laughs as he turns the blonde around so he’s now facing him, hands moving to gently pry the small hands away from his face, engulffing them in his own dainty ones.

“Confidence that I will always admire. As simple as the gesture was, just being there in the middle of that floor, swaying to the music with you, seeing your face light up so brightly when we would move, it made me fall for you even harder.” Hoseok then kisses Jimin’s knuckles and lets them go, lowering his hands so they rested on the younger’s waist. Jimin wraps his arms around Hoseok’s neck , slightly lifting on his feet to reach better. Without even knowing, both their bodies started to sway rhythmically to the music, just like they did back at the night club.

Hoseok then backs away after a bit, leaving Jimin no choice but to unwrap his arms around the older, but just as he was about to ask what he was doing, Hoseok grabs his hand and spins him around, leaving Jimin in a surprised giggle fit.

Hoseok then starts to follow along with the lyrics, his voice low but soothing as he starts to shift them around the kitchen, following the steps they did that night, matching the lyrics with the movement of their bodies. Jimin is still giggling as he gets pulled along, matching with Hoseok’s rhythm as he lowers his free hand to his shoulder, Hoseok's free hand landing back on the younger's waist as they moved in tandem.

“I wanna live with you, even while we’re ghosts,” Hoseok sung as he started to slow them down as the song reached its bridge, gesturing for Jimin to say his part with a smile.

Jimin replies with a chortle but nonetheless indulges with his honey voice. “Cause you were always there for me, when I needed you most” The memory of their time on the balcony flashes in their mind at that moment, Jimin was always there for him, always. Even at his lowest.

“Im going to love you till my lungs give out, and I promise till death we part like in our vows” The memories of them laying on the floor of the practice room, out of breath, but determined as they picked each other up to try again. Even if they felt like they were dying, they kept each other going .

The couple both start to sing together, the contrast between Hoseok's lower range and Jimin's pitch, it blends perfectly, like the stars pinned in the night sky. They spin each other around as if the kitchen floor was that of a stage, and bright spotlights shined over them as they moved.

“That it's just you and me until we’re gray and old.” The two slow down their pace till they are standing in the middle of the room, just looking, and admiring the view that is in front of them. Hoseok presses a quick kiss to his lover’s lips, both chuckling and smiling with so much love in their eyes as he pulls away. The final lyrics started to play softly but the two were too focused on each other to finish the rest, just leaning their heads on each other's shoulders as they went back to swaying.

As the song fades out, they pull away from their embrace and share one last kiss as they eye their almost (very) forgotten food. “Well then” Jimin walks toward the counter and picks up their bowls, steam escaping from the lid. “Shall we eat?

~

They decided to sit outside while they ate, per Jimin's request. The sky no longer held that navy blue hue and was now replaced by little dots of light, scattered all around its endless abyss. The moon shines brightly over the city in a cool glow. Hoseok sat on the bench by the house’s wall while Jimin sat opposite, both facing each other as they set their food and drinks down. The atmosphere was silent except for the sounds of vehicles making their way through the crowded streets, and the sounds of their eating as they slurped the noodles.

Quickly enough the bowls and drinks were emptied as they both moved to sit on one of the loungers. Hoseok is laying down with one arm resting behind his head while the other is wrapped around Jimin’s waist, who is cuddling on top of him.  Both looking up at the sky as they sighed in contentment.

“Remember that day we stood on the balcony of our old dorm?” Jimin looks up at Hoseok’s features, his head laying on his chest.

Hoseok looks down at Jimin, shifting a bit so he gets a better angle. “Of course, it’s the day you took me outside to see the meteor shower”

“And the day you sucked it up and confessed to me” Jimin pouts, smacking Hoseok’s chest lightly as the older laughed from the impact of his tiny hands. The vibration from his chest made Jimin’s heart flutter. “Still can't believe you beat me to that by the way, I had the whole thing planned out but you just had to go and be courageous first.” Jimin snaps, but there is no heat to his words. Hoseok just continued to laugh at his boyfriend's pout.

“Yes there was that too."

Hoseok continued to look at Jimin as his laugh started to fade out, smile still wide as his eyebrow raised in curiosity at the sudden topic as he slightly lifted himself up. “What brought that up all of a sudden?”

Jimin lifts himself up a bit as well, but still in Hoseok’s hold. “This moment right here. It reminded me of that night. The night you called me your star as I did you. The moment I was under your biggest way to just, escape. The moment I was under the stars with you. And the moment I became your star.”

Damn, that got Hoseok’s heart going. How can Jimin just say that so casually? Like it’s the easiest thing in the world for him? His star. Just as he is Jimin’s. Fuck he loves the sound of that so much, he never gets tired of hearing it. Hoseok chuckles softly.

“My second biggest way. I believe I remember saying that you were my biggest escape.” He laughs louder after hearing Jimin groan, hiding his face in Hoseok’s chest. “Oh c'mon now, that line was smooth at that time and you know it.” Hoseok hugs Jimin fully in his lap as the smaller continues to whine into his chest.

“Yeah like, 10 years ago. God you really were a sap at that time, huh?” Jimin pulls away from Hoseok’s chest as he moves on his side, looking down at his starshine, who has the most goofiest grin on his face. Jimin leans down and kisses his nose, making the older's eyes close in affection. “Only for you, starlight.” Hoseok responds after opening his eyes, and Jimin giggles at the nickname as they lay back down, looking up once again at the beauty around them up above. Until they see a quick and sharp line of white shoot over them.

A shooting star

“Hyung, did you see that!” Jimin squeals in excitement as he jumps off Hoseok, breaking their embrace in haste as he continues to look up in hopes of seeing it again. Hoseok gets up as well, looking all around to catch a glimpse of the event again. Just then, another shoots across. And another, and another. The two men both looked at each other with a smile, One wide eyed and lips parted in shock, while the other looked proud and so in love.

It was not just a shooting star. It was a meteor shower.

Just like when Jimin pulled Hoseok to that balcony and the sky glowed in sharp curves of light as they flew. Jimin knew about it then. And here, he knew about it now. Only this time, the star was already his. Shine and all.

“You knew about this didn't you?” Hoseok stepped softly behind the shorter man, slipping his arms around his waist and resting his chin on his shoulder, just like he did in the kitchen. Jimin leaned back further into his boyfriend's embrace, sighing with content and he rested his head on top of Hoseok’s, his small hands resting on Hoseok’s larger ones on his stomach.

“Maybe I did” The same words he used then. Hoseok just laughs at his boyfriend's remark, raising one of his hands from the blonde’s waist and up to his Jaw, angling it to capture his lips on his own. The taste of the noodles from earlier still on his tongue as he deepens the kiss, earning a small moan from the younger's throat.

They kiss like this for a while till they both need to breathe for air, gasping as they both pull away. They stay silent, only noises being used is small chuckling between the two as they go back to their previous position. Watching as the meteors continue to fly, swaying every now and then.

“You know, you didn’t make a wish.”

Jimin looks at Hoseok, eyebrows furrowed.

When Hoseok sees the message he reiterates. “The shooting star. At that time it was only one, like you said. But I didn't see you do the wish thing.” Now that Jimin got.

"Ah it’s not that I didn't Hyung, it's just that I had no reason to. Not when I have everything I need right here.” Jimin angles over to leave a kiss in Hoseok’s hair, lifting a hand to lightly pet where he kissed. Hoseok closed his eyes and hummed at the feeling of his tiny hand scratching at his scalp.

“Who’s the sap now?” Hoseok quirks with a laugh. Jimin just laughs back as he watches the final meteors shine brightly as they fade away, chest full of love and warmth at this wonderful moment.

“I love you, starlight”

“I love you, starshine”

~

“Guys, we’re back! Sorry we were gone so late, Yoongi-ah couldn't stop wanting to enter every shop that had even the slightest amount of “Natural music” Seokjin air quoted as He, namjoon and Yoongi stepped into the house, taking off their shoes and masks as they put the bags of goodies they bought down on the table. After hearing no response, he calls out again “yah! Jimin-ah, Hobi-ah! Don’t tell me you also went off like the brats did! The least you could do is leave a message or a note!”

“Ah let them be Hyung, they are young and in love.” Yoongi hums and he starts unpacking his share of goodies; most of it being music equipment he plans to set up once he's back at the Genius lab. Some of it will actually be handy for when they are flying.

“Well when are you ever going to not act like an old man and actually be in love, Hyung?” Jungkook walks in with taehyung right behind him, helmets hooked under their arms as they take off their shoes. Yoongi only glares back while the others try to contain their laugh, Jin giving no attempt as he lets out a laugh Yoongi’s way, the sound matching the one of window wipers.

Namjoon just looks at the group with fondness, smiles so wide his dimples clearly show. It's good to see the members goofing around, especially after these hectic few weeks. He makes his way toward the living room, shaking his head lovingly as he aims to lay on the couch for a bit before turning in for the night. Just as he was about to sit he looked out the long sliding glass door to see the porch light was still on and a pile of cans of ramen bowls on the bench. Curse the guys always being so messy.

He makes his way over to open the sliding door and heads over to the bench to clean up the mess. Once he's got it all held securely in his grasp, he starts to turn around to see a shadow on the sun lounger and he freezes.

“Hey guys” Namjoon whispers over to the group in the kitchen, catching their attention. “I think I found our missing members.”

The rest of the group makes their way outside, huddling around Namjoon's frame as they look in his direction. There laid their two members, cuddled up comfortably on the sun lounger, fast asleep. Just like the position they laid in a little while before the meteor shower hit. The members just cooed, trying not to wake them up and they watched the couple sleeping peacefully.

“Should we wake them up?” Taehyung asks the obvious question. Namjoon just shakes his head. “Nah let them sleep, they deserve to have this. We’ll wake them up in a few.”

Slowly the members started to walk back inside, leaving only Yoongi left. He takes out his phone and snaps a picture of the two, a smile slowly growing on his lips as he sends the photo to their group chat as he walks back in quickly to grab them a blanket from the couch, carefully wrapping it over them before he walks back inside, leaving the two to their own. Under the stars.

Notes:

I hope you enjoyed my first Jihope fic I'm letting see the light of day!! Thank you for reading!!!!!

The kitchen scene was inspired by pic that Jimin posted on his IG with Hobi! everything else I came up with myself!
