Chapter Text
I was born in October 31st, 2018 to an unnamed woman from some small clan or whatnot. Apparently I never made a sound nor moved until the 24th of December. Funny enough, during those months in the hospital, my mother never bothered to name me nor my grandfather who was the one to stay with me.
My mother didn’t want me but she had an obsession with my father…or so what my grandpa told me when I asked. So, who named me?
Grandpa said that a month in, a strange man who looked similar to me would stare me down and was the to graciously give me the name “Narumi”. The man disappeared one day and never came back…or so I thought.
Funny thing is, I’m what you call a special case. I’m actually cursed and said curse attached itself like a leech towards me. It would often whisper things at me, watch me from afar, or just in general exist nearby. It was creepy looking with six arms, bandaged eyes, a permanent smirk, and its general aura that screamed danger…yet it never did anything to me.
Grandpa raised me the best he could but got sick after. He taught how to survive me new reality…and the fact I haven’t aged past 11 for decades now. The greatest feat till this day is that I’m permanently stuck as a child. Grandpa said it was the cursed spirit and my mother who caused this giant freak of a mess. My mother’s obsession led to her cursing me to resemble my father in every aspect but personality I guess…like a doll. My bestie of a curse, I guess is the reason why I’m still alive.
It’s pretty confusing. Too bad I never got the answers I wanted. I’m now 50 years old…mentally. I lived in the same mountain range for years, did the same chores for years, practice my jujutsu for years, not once did I bother leaving…why would I?
Is not like I have anyone waiting for me. This sucks.
My name is Narumi. I was born in October 31st, 2018. I have no last name and I’m pushing 50 right now.
Location: A small town located in the outskirts of Tokyo.
“Good morning trees, good morning sun.” A bored, monotonic voice uttered. The small figure of a child could be seen trekking through the forest, holding a basket filled with flowers. The child held a blank expression as they continued their journey towards an open clearing. White hair, cold blue eyes, wearing an oversized purple hoodie, pants that specifically ended at the ankles, and worn down shoes that looked moments away from tearing itself apart.
That was the usual outfit that Narumi wore over the years. She could careless what matched or not since being 11 gave her a leeway of not having any fashion sense. It’s not like changing clothes would diffuse the fact that she was permanently 11 until said spirit haunting her would relinquish its hold. Narumi stopped near the entrance and gave a small sigh.
“Good morning Grandpa.”
Ahead of the girl layed a small grave which consisted of three rocks and two branches forming the shape of a cross behind said rocks.
“I brought your favorite flowers. Took me awhile to grow them since they are delicate.”
The white haired girl took a few step forward before kneeling down on the ground and grabbing the bouquet from her basket, “Today is your birthday gramps. Would’ve turned 118 if you were still here. That’s pretty long.”
Narumi put the flowers down, “I did nothing new today. Just a couple of chores and fixing that small leak on the roof. Took a bit of a struggle carrying all that wood with my size but you know me, I don’t quit.”
Narumi stopped talking for a minute to only hear the wind move through the trees. The female could only look around in indifference at her surrounding.
“Guess that’s all for today-“ Narumi cut herself mid sentence when she felt a very ominous aura approaching her. She stood up staring straight at the opening path of the forest.
The white haired child searched the ground and found a stick lying around. She grabbed it and tightened her grip. The very same aura continued its approach until stopping a few feet away. Narumi saw an oddly shaped fox just come out of the clearing. It held two tails and a fox-like body but its face was twisted. Razor sharp teeth on top while its eyes were lingering on the bottom.
“Aren’t you ugly.” Narumi said. The fox snarled at her releasing its aura but now confirmed cursed energy.
Narumi pointed the stick at it, “You reek. Seems you’re strong but not strong enough for me.”
The fox spirit growled before racing towards Narumi. It jumped and showed its paws with elongated claws ready to rip it’s target into ribbons but Narumi stood still and rolled her eyes. The female brought the stick down to her side.
A small whoosh sounded before almost transparent lines appeared surrounding the fox in different directions, like the space itself was cut. The cursed spirit was frozen mid air and suddenly it was split in different cuts. Purple goo splattered the ground as the spirit now layed dead in front of Narumi.
“What a waste.”
Narumi then looked back at the forest, “You can come out now. I know you’ve been watching all this time.”
A tall figure stepped out but their face was covered in a white hoodie. They wore long, black pants, and red shoes. The figure in question was a male which made Narumi tilt her head in confusion.
She lived in a secluded part of the forest which was barely accessible unless you were actually looking for Narumi…but most didn’t know of a child living in the woods.
“Who’re you?”
The figure stayed still and didn’t answer which made Narumi scowl a bit.
“You look just like him.” The male said.
Narumi blinked.
“Didn’t think anyone lived here, let alone a kid.”
Narumi scoffed, “You didn’t answer my question.”
The male didn’t answer but instead followed up with another question of his own, “That cursed spirit, seems like you cut the space around it with that stick. You aware that not anyone can do that?”
Narumi scoffed, “You didn’t answer my question, why should I answer yours?”
The white haired girl then turned to grab her empty basket.
The male figure let out a deep breath and pulled his hoodie down showing a mess of pink hair and soft amber eyes that hardened over the years.
“Yuji Itadori.”
Narumi stopped her movement, “Yuji Itadori? Why is a sorcerer of your caliber wondering this woods? Don’t you have cursed spirits to exercise or something.”
Yuji chuckled, “I could say the same for you but I’m more curious on how you’ve been 11 for 39 years.”
Narumi narrowed her eyes, “You tell me sorcerer.” The female pointed the stick at Yuji, “Why are you here?”
Yuji put his two hands up in surrender to reassure Narumi he meant no harm. He then pointed at the makeshift grave behind Narumi.
“Your grandpa found me quite awhile ago. Told me of the grandkid that he is raising and how peculiar she was too.” Yuji explained.
“He said she was extraordinary but had a small problem; she was cursed by her father. Never knew what he meant really until he gave me an old journal.”
Yuji zipped his jacket a bit open and pulled an old leather journal out, “Turns out said journal belonged to someone I cherished and looked up to long ago. It was quite the shock he gave me.”
Narumi still held the stick up.
The small white haired child then raised an eyebrow, “My grandpa died 39 years ago which means you had a few years to confirm this truth…yet you didn’t until now. Forgive me for not trusting a single word of yours.”
Yuji sighed then gave a sheepish smile as he scratched the back of his head, “Your grandpa was a bit cryptic in his wording. Told me me something about finding a truth and then finding you for a solution.”
Narumi deadpanned, “Solution?”
Yuji sweat dropped, “Yeah.”
“What was that old geezer up to?” Narumi grumbled to herself and dropped the stick she was holding, “39 years dead and still messing with me.”
Yuji could only blink at the small gremlin cursing her grandfather for putting her in this situation. He then remembered something and put the side of his fist down on the palm of his other hand, “That’s right, I almost forgot!”
Narumi then looked at him weird, “Forgot what?”
“Sorry bout this but I need to confirm it.”
Yuji stalked closer and let out his cursed energy. Narumi flinched violently back to the point she tripped on her feet and fell down on her behind. Narumi’s eyes were wide and her teeth were clenched tightly. Yuji’s aura caught her off guard and gave her a jumpscare like no other. The small child trembled, she felt like she was in a pit with venomous snakes with no way out.
Out of nowhere, her shadow grew in size and darkened underneath her. Shadowy hands emerged from the shadow and grabbed Narumi in a gentle manner, almost in a reassuring grip. Narumi felt two arms wrapped around her chest, hugging her close to the familiar cursed spirit that always accompanied her.
“Get away…from…her.” It replied in a sort of echoed voice.
Yuji took a few steps back seeing familiar features he would never forget nor the familiar energy surrounding them at the moment.
Narumi could feel the spirit manifest itself, not fully, its smirk long gone with only signs of a growl taking over.
Yuji was frozen at the sight. He recognized that white hair anywhere and those twisted features reminded him of one of his worst moment in life.
“It’s true…” Yuji uttered.
“Gojo-Sensei.”
Narumi calmed down and relaxed her body.
She looked at the spirit next to her, “It’s fine, I was just startled that’s all.”
She gave a small smile, “You can calm down. I’m safe, see.”
The cursed spirit stopped its movement.
“Safe…good.”
The spirit then started shrinking, vanishing seconds later, leaving Narumi and Yuji alone. The female got up from the ground and glowered at Yuji, “You better explain yourself. Do you have any idea what could’ve happened if it manifested completely?!”
Narumi, in anger, strolled closer to Yuji while pointing at him.
“You were lucky I was able to calm myself! It would’ve erased you from existence if I didn’t get a grip!”
At this point, Narumi was jabbing her finger at Yuji with rapid speed, “What the hell were you trying to do?!”
Yuji looked down at the furious child and gave a small frown, “Do you even know who cursed you?”
Narumi stopped her rant and gazed at Yuji.
“You called it Gojo-Sensei, I heard you. You know it?”
Yuji looked at her with a skeptical expression, “Did your grandpa never tell you?”
“That old geezer would just laugh at my face and ruffle my hair every time I brought it up. Eventually I stopped asking since it was useless.”
Yuji could only sigh at the predicament he was in.
“That spirit is the original owner of the journal I showed earlier.”
Narumi blanked at Yuji’s answer, “Eh?”
“He was my teacher when I was a teen and a very feared and powerful sorcerer of his time. No one could hold themselves against him but he died protecting all of us…me…no one expected it.”
Narumi’s eyes furrowed in confusion, “Then why did he cursed me?”
Yuji gave her a pity smile, “His name is Satoru Gojo and he’s your father.”
Narumi fainted.
………………………………..
Blue eyes gazed deeply inside Yuji’s soul. Said male could only sweatdrop at the annoyed look from the small child. Both were seated on a table with the old journal in between them. Narumi tapped her finger on the table like it personally offended her.
“Let me get this straight, your teacher was this big shot sorcerer back in the day with a technique that made him untouchable and a walking nuclear bomb and he was so powerful that even the higher ups feared him. That walking apocalypse so happens to also be my father.”
“That’s one way to put it?” Yuji blinked.
“I don’t get it. From what you told me, he died before ever hearing anything from me and doesn’t seem like a person to be tied down to my mother of all people. Why curse himself and follow me?”
Yuji looked at the journal, “I wouldn’t be able to answer that question even if I tried. Gojo-sensei was a complex person but he did want you. He wrote it himself that he couldn’t wait to meet you and take you from your mother. He gave you the name Narumi.”
Narumi could only look down at her hands, “Wish I could’ve met him. Seems like the person to spoil his loved ones.”
“You can.”
“Huh?!”
Narumi gave an incredulous look at Yuji, “What do you mean I can?!”
Yuji turned serious, “The reason I came to find you was because I finally found the solution but it won’t work unless you agree.”
“What’s this solution you are talking about?”
“Time travel.”
Narumi deadpanned, “This is no time for back to the future bullshit.”
“How do you even know that movie?” Yuji sweat dropped.
Yuji shrugged off the earlier comment, “I found a cursed object that’s able to do so if modified enough. Your grandpa told me about your technique. Those slices you did mid air, you were cutting through space-separating cursed energy from cursed spirit-nullifying it.”
“So grandpa really did find you.”
“Your technique doesn’t stop at cursed spirits, you basically cut anything even techniques themselves. If you existed back then, a lot of bad stuff could’ve been avoided.” Yuji explained.
Narumi crossed her arms, “This is too good to be true. Would I be able to do anything?”
“You will but there’s no telling what timeline you jump in. Hopefully before any of the disasters happen.”
“So I’m going blind in this.”
“You’re still skeptical?”
“Why me? Why can’t you do it? Aren’t you the strongest sorcerer?”
Yuji gave Narumi a soft smile seeing the reserved girl chip away due to her worry.
“I thought about it, you know. I could go back in time, save everyone I care about and still kick the ass of the one behind the whole mess. I was about to do it but…”
Narumi tilted her head, “But?”
“I read Gojo-sensei’s journal and remembered the conversation with your grandpa. If there’s anyone that could really make a difference, it’ll be you.”
“So, will you do it?”
“ Give me three days to think this over and my dad’s journal. I want to read it and hear it through his eyes.”
Yuji nodded and agreed, “Alright. I’ll see you in three days then. If you’re not comfortable doing it, it’s still fine.”
Narumi nodded, “In three days then…”
Three days passed by quickly. In between those days, I read my dad’s journal. He wrote it when he was 18 all the way before he died. Somehow that journal kept his every thought. I begin to imagine the world he lived in.
He was the strongest and because he was so strong, he was all alone. He was overworked by the higher ups even though he felt like killing them all every time he wrote about them. He had high hopes for the future. He hoped to nurture young minds to stand up for themselves and not be used by the very same system that would eventually spit back at them.
All his thoughts made my heart ache, he really did care. All he went through and wanting to change a better future and now there’s Itadori Yuji…experiencing the same loneliness his beloved teacher felt. The elders were really the worst.
I eventually landed on the pages about myself. He always knew from the beginning I existed. When he learned about what my mom did and the rumors she started, he was ready to obliterate her but then found out I was alive. He stopped himself and thought he wouldn’t be alone now. He monitored my mother from far away and mentally named me Narumi 5 months in.
He met me and waited for me…until he no longer could.
I remember closing the journal as tears dripped on the cover. It wasn’t fair. Life wasn’t fair. There were many chances to stop all of this from happening but no one cared. My father was put through the wringer and I could no longer stand it.
Itadori was right. If there was a chance to change everyone’s fate, we would. But it depended on who was capable. Itadori could definitely do it. He knew who to go after and who to save before they died. He knew but at the end…it would hit too much. Too many memories that hit too close and the worst fact…if anyone against him would find about the time travel…who’s to say they won’t kill past Yuji.
Sukuna Ryoumen wouldn’t care…and I have a special bone to pick with him. Bastard.
Yuji needed an outlier. Someone that doesn’t exist so no one could plan for them in time and with my technique, I’m the bane of existence to countless enemies…specially to that brain fucker.
“I’ll do it.” Narumi stated once she saw Yuji pull up at her residence. The male stopped and could only blink at the girl in front of him.
“Come again?”
“I said I’ll do it. I’ll go back in time and kick everyone’s ass for you.”
Yuji tilted his head in confusion, “I thought you would say no.”
Narumi scowled, “At first I wasn’t. But reading my dad’s journal and hearing from you the shit that went down, a lot could’ve been avoided if the right person was there to give a push. I’m an outlier compared to you, by the time those old fucks or even that brain bastard figures about me, their plans would already go to shit with no return.”
“I see. Glad you came to that epiphany.”
“Shut up! Hopefully you’re younger self is less annoying than you.”
“I wouldn’t count on it.”
“Fuck off.”
Yuji smiled, “Then are you ready?”
Narumi smirked, “Been waiting for you for three days. I’m ready.”
“In that case here.”
Luckily for Narumi, she had fast reflexes and caught the item that Yuji threw at her. The white haired female blanked at the object.
“You seriously threw me a sword?”
Yuji shrugged, “Saw you demolish a cursed spirit with a branch, I can only image with a sword.”
Narumi narrowed her eyes at Yuji but then scoffed, “Thanks I guess.”
The girl stared at the sword. White hilt with a black diamond shaped pattern, black scabbard with semi translucent dragon design. Narumi walked up to a few trees in front of her house. Yuji was on the side observing what the girl was going to do.
Narumi crouched down while holding the sword on her side with the hilt tilting down. Narumi concentrated her eyes towards a particular tree in front of her. She tightened her hold on the hilt of the blade and the other on the scabbard. Narumi unsheathed the sword half way before sheathing it again…at least to the normal human eye.
The tree in front of her was then covered in multiple slashes with the familiar space cutting pattern for a second before disappearing and the tree falling down in smaller pieces.
“Nice!” Narumi smirked. Yuji’s jaw was a bit opened from shock, “Guess you like it.”
“Most definitely. Can’t wait to make everyone cry.”
Yuji couldn’t help but be concerned at what Narumi said.
