Chapter Text
"Did she ever have her own identity? Or did it become established only when she remained in absence?"
Some called her 'Fu', an 'affectionate' nickname or alias. Her actual name felt more like a title.. 'Fukona' or so it was. She will not be missed.
Fukona lived an average, or below average life in her 15 years of being alive. She was a 'weeb', a 'geek', or rather.. every derogatory stereotype that the anime community had to offer.
The singular non-controversial part in her personality was her inherent dislike towards shotacon anime. That's where the horrendous line was drawn.
She had at last left her Freshman year behind, Sophomore year coming into the horizon of her sight. Summer had at last bloomed in it's sweltering arrival at the gate between academic years.
Her living quarters and bedroom were adorned to their brim, various banners, ornaments, figures, mementos, and other merchandise scattered everywhere like ink blotches on pristine parchment. Her parents often attended to their own business, leaving her in solidarity many times despite how deeply they cared for her. Their schudules simply did not permit visits.
Fukona had long since learnt that not even her friends would be that close to her. If only her brother hadn't passed away before her birth.. Maybe she would have recieved a different life and path ahead of her.
It had currently been days.. weeks.. months, even, since anyone last saw her. Her name didn't appear as frequent as others', only showing on news anchors after 3 months of her quiet absence.
...
One of her more.. 'faithful' friends, named 'Toko', decided to conduct a wellness check on her. (despite her never actually being well.) She knew more about Fukona than the crowd of others she had befriended.
~ Fukona was deeply obsessed with Isekai and Slice of Life animes, her top two being Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation, and Kimetsu no Yaiba: Demon Slayer.
~ She intensely adorned her room in all types of merchandise, which include her three favourite characters from each show respectively; Sylphiette, Rudeus, and Zanoba, and also Kanae, Sanemi, and Giyu.
~ The character she most related to was Rudeus, despite not even being half his age. The feeling of being a NEET, 'hikkikomori', or shut-in was mutual.
The deafening quiet of the hall fell over Toko's ears like a veil of silence. The stained glass windows cast streaks of coloured light across the floor where she padded through on bare feet.
"Fu? Are.. Are you there..? Your door's unlocked, I locked it for yo—"
She pushed Fukona's door open and was met with a sight she didn't expect.
...!
Fukona's body dangled lifelessly and uselessly from the ceiling, an HDMI cable coiled around her neck—leaving red imprints on the lines of her neck.
A putrid, unpleasant and absolutely jarring smell hit Toko's nose like an attack on the senses. Laced with decay and desperation, it was the scent of.. Fukona's decaying corpse.
Toko's hands flew up to her mouth in blatant horror at seeing her friend's body hanging amidst a sea of figures.. She was aware of the girl's mental instability, but she didn't expect such a gruesome sight..! Yet.. it must have been obvious, given her hiatus of 3 months.. Nobody disappears unannounced unless something is amiss.
