Work Text:

Elijah sighed, staring at the clock. It was already seven. He could feel himself pouting a little as he sat at the kitchen table. A plate of food was growing cold across from his seat. Steak, mashed potatoes, and a side of corn, all perfectly prepared. Victor must be working late, again. Elijah stood and paced. There was no need for Victor to work, Elijah had carefully managed his funds for centuries so he could keep a life of leisure. And yet, his companion insisted.

He hated feeling like this. For many years, Elijah was perfectly content with solitude. But now, his thrall had awakened his need for companionship. That same thrall who was away for the next month, taking care of their grandmother. He rubbed his face, glancing outside as he heard Victor's truck pulling up the drive to the garage.

“Finally,” Elijah mumbled, leaving the kitchen. He waited in the front hall, arms folded, trying to look casual and not at all grumpy. He heard the heavy footsteps approaching the kitchen, as a voice boomed out.

“Elijah? Sorry I'm late.” Victor put his keys in the bowl by the door, offering Elijah a small bouquet of red roses.

Elijah accepted the flowers, holding them delicately. “Your dinner is getting cold,” he said softly. “Thank you, for the flowers.”

Victor studied him for a moment, before touching his cheek with one large hand. “You're missing our pup.” He pointed out “I can see it in your eyes.”

With a sigh, he nodded. “I am. I didn't realize how much life they brought to the manor.” Elijah looked at the flowers again. “I think I have a vase-”

Victor cut him off with a hug. “I miss them too,” he said, voice rumbling softly. He kissed Elijah on the head, and the vampire sighed again. “Come on, let's get you fed, then I'll eat the supper you made. It smells delicious.” He held Elijah's free hand and walked him into the kitchen.

“I should hope it does,” Elijah sniffed. “I did have plenty of time to learn how to cook, after all.” He found the vase in a cabinet and arranged the flowers. Victor waited, watching Elijah fuss over the blooms. When he paused to admire his work, Victor spoke again.

“Come on, our pup would be upset with both of us, if you keep delaying your own meal.” Victor watched Elijah. “And you will feel better too. That's what you always tell them.”

Elijah chuckled, “You do enjoy using my own words against me, don't you?"

Victor smiled a little, adjusting his shirt to give the vampire better access. “Maybe a little,” he admitted. His warm hand touched Elijah's shoulder. “Now feed.”

Elijah traced the inflection point of the werewolf's shoulder. “At least it won't leave marks on you,” Elijah mumbled. He bent down and bit the ruddy skin. It wasn't his favorite, not since his thrall had come into his life, but it was a close second. He took enough blood to sate his hunger, before trying to pull away.

Victor stopped him, holding him close. Elijah took a moment to enjoy his warmth. Victor chuckled again, rubbing Elijah's back. “Did our pup call today?” He asked.

“No, they texted me, but they said they would call before they went to bed.”

Victor scoffed “they're probably staying up late again. We should check in with them.” He adjusted and pulled his phone out of his pocket. “Especially since they made me promise you would eat.”

“How ironic, from the one who refused to eat regularly” he laughed.

“Well, it takes one to know one,” Victor smiled.

Elijah turned and gave Victor a kiss on the cheek, before watching him dial their companion’s number. As the phone rang, Victor started to eat the steak Elijah had cooked.

“Hello?” Their thrall answered the phone with a little worry in their voice. Elijah frowned at the artificial sound from the phone speaker. “is everything okay?”

“Everything is fine, little one,” Elijah assured them. “Victor is having dinner, and we thought we would call to check in before it was too late.”

“Oh… okay,” they sounded a little unsure. As if they were trying to determine if Elijah was holding information back.

“Ah, we were missing you, pup” Victor spoke up. “Have you eaten enough today?”

“Yeah, Nonna got takeout for us. It was a nice surprise. And she's teaching me her meatloaf recipe tomorrow.”

“Very good, pet,” Elijah smirked. “You'll have to cook it for us sometime. But things sound like they're going well. Make sure you don't stay up too late, alright?”

“Alright, mom,” his thrall teased. "I'll text you updates tomorrow.” Elijah could hear their smile in their voice.

“Send pictures, if you can.” Victor smiled “and don't forget to exercise.”

“And make sure not to neglect your tasks.” Elijah reminded them. “Drink plenty of water. I'll know if you don't.”

“Okay, okay,” they giggled. Elijah could practically feel them blushing through the phone. “Gotta go, love you, bye!” The line went dead.

Elijah shook his head indulgently. “Well, I'm glad they seem to be doing well.”

Victor grinned “you really can be a mother hen, can't you?”

“Oh, shush,” Elijah smirked back, “you act the same way around our little human.”

“So?” Victor asked, grinning wolfishly. “But for now, we should enjoy some of the time we have. I know you were thinking of rearranging the furniture lately.”

“Mhmm, and now I don't have to worry about waking anyone up. You could sleep through a hurricane.”

“And I have,” he smiled, one massive hand ruffling Elijah's hair. He laughed loudly when Elijah complained.

As Victor headed up the stairs to reset their Thrall's room, Elijah caught himself smiling contentedly. Maybe they weren't legally husbands… but this was enough for them.
