The Wizarding Photographer

Summary:

Hermione talks to her mum about Harry, and has an idea to show him she's a dateable girl. Pretty much just the set-up for the rest of the story.

Not quite a one-shot, but unlikely to turn into a long form piece. Most likely just the summer after 2nd year, before 3rd year, maybe a little of the start of 3rd year. Partly inspired by the excellent 'The Benefits of Wizard Photography' by TheSmuttyMuse

Notes:

Sorry to readers of my other works, this idea got into my head and needed to get it out before returning to the other storys...

Chapter 1: Chapter 1

Chapter Text

Hermione bit her lip with nerves as she attached the letter to Hedwig’s leg. She had been thinking about this plan ever since she’d had that talk with her mum.

No, not that talk, they’d had the sex talk before she left for Hogwarts first year, just in case she started her periods early.

No, the chat this summer, after her 2nd year, when Hermione had finally broken down and talked to her mum about Harry Potter.

She wasn’t sure why she’d finally decided to talk to her mum about Harry, but she had finally come clean about how she really liked Harry but didn’t think he’d ever like her like that and while she had hated the idea of talking to her mum about it, it turned out to be a very good thing.

Her mum had patiently pointed out that first of all, boys develop slower than girls, especially where romance is concerned, and so she might just need to wait a little longer for him to even think about such things.

Secondly, she had noticed the interaction between Harry and his uncle at the station and suspected he didn’t have the most supportive home life, and as such might not have been given that talk, and might struggle even more than the usual already very oblivious teenaged male population.

So it was likely going to be up to Hermione to make something happen if it was going to.

Hermione could handle that. If she knew what needed doing, she was nothing if not determined to at least try.

After some thinking and planning, she decided to use her newest hobby, which she’d mostly started in order to be able to show her parents some kind of magic at home. After seeing the annoying firstie Colin Creevey develop moving photographs, she had asked how it was done, and learning it was all a matter of using the correctly prepared film and applying the correct potions, rather than casting any spells, she knew she had to start learning.

So she had. Her parents had been kind enough to give her the money for the camera and film as her Christmas present - they were especially happy to do it when she wrote that she’d be able to show them photos of the castle when she came home. Then she had talked ot Colin and found books and learned how to take and develop wizarding photos herself.

She’d be the first to admit she didn’t have a natural talent like Colin apparently did, but she was happy enough, and her parents had been ecstatic to see the photo she had managed to get Harry to take of her casting wingardium leviosa on a chair in the common room - it was the first time they’d got to see her do magic, after all.

She had decided to take some photos of herself and her parents around their home to send to Harry to cheer him up while he was stuck with the Dursleys.

She had even summoned up the courage to take some pictures while her parents were out of herself in her bikini, sunbathing in the garden. They were nothing lewd, really rather innocent, but she just didn’t think her parents would approve, especially if they found out a copy was going to a boy

She actually enjoyed mixing the potion for the final development to make the photos move, though that was likely to how much her mind had wondered over ideas of what she hoped Harry would think upon seeing the pictures, and what it might lead to. She actually nearly messed up the potion when she got too drawn into such ideas, but managed to realise just in time to save it. And the quick look she’d given them all showed them to be decent enough pictures and all moving, so the potion clearly worked!

Hermione had been planning on stopping off in Diagon Alley to use the Owl Post Office to send the letter to Harry, but Hedwig had turned up with a letter from him a few days before they were leaving for their trip to Europe, so she had summoned up her courage, and written her reply and included the photos to send of to Harry.

She just hoped Harry would realise the significance of her including the bikini shots as well. At least she knew not to get her hopes up too much after her talk with her mum - she was prepared to wait a bit, or maybe encourage him along. But hopefully, just maybe, she might get a date to Hogsmeade with him next year!
