Chapter 1: Open for Business

Chapter Text

"Lucius! What is this?!"

"What do you mean? It is our business logo, Arthur."

Arthur sighed and rubbed his hands on his face before wildly gesturing to the ridiculous sign placed on the brick building the duo just rented. The sign clearly stated "Malfoy & Weasley - Private Eyes", but Malfoy was written in an elegant script, whereas Weasley looked like it was designed by one of Arthur's toddler grandchildren.

"Your name looks better than mine!"

Lucius scoffed, "Your point?"

Arthur groaned with frustration, "Lucius, no one is going to take our business seriously!"

Lucius waved his hand dismissively, "Of course they will, Arthur. The Malfoy name still holds importance, and your daughter married The Chosen One. That alone will bring us business."

"My daughter and all of my children played an important part in the war," Arthur huffed. "We aren't known just because my daughter married Harry Potter."

"Don't sell yourself short, you're also known for conquering poverty and rising to middle class," Lucius added.

"Why did I agree to this..." Arthur grumbled.

Lucius patted his shoulder condescendingly and led the senior Weasley into their new office. It was obvious Lucius had already brought his personal decorator by. The room was adorned with priceless plants, fine art and marble desks that looked better in a CEO's office and not in a simple building in Diagon Alley.

Ginny, who begrudgingly agreed to be their secretary during Quidditch off-season, was already seated, appearing amused at the sight of her father and his new bestie.

"Ah," Lucius said delightfully. "Jennifer is here."

Ginny grinned, "Try again, Malfoy."

Arthur sighed.

Lucius quirked a confused brow, "Genevieve?"

"So close," Ginny patronized.

"Geraldine?"

"You're getting colder."

"That's right," Lucius snapped his fingers. "Georgette."

Arthur groaned and shook his head. He sat at his assigned desk and watched as Ginny continued to toy with Lucius.

"Georgette?" Ginny snickered. "Really?"

"Give him a hint, dear," Arthur said.

"No, no," Lucius countered. "I know this... let's see... Grace... no... Gwendolyn? That doesn't sound right. Oh! Ginger."

"That's offensive," Ginny rolled her eyes.

"Gabriela? No, that's too elegant for Arthur to come up with..."

"And he continues to be offensive," Arthur muttered.

Lucius rambled off a few more names before Ginny finally stopped him.

"It's Ginny, Malfoy," she said curtly.

Lucius paused, then glanced at Arthur. "Ginny? That sounds like a name for a dog or a..."

"It's short for Ginevra!" Arthur exclaimed.

Lucius was about to respond when the bell above the front door chimed, signaling their very first customer had arrived.

Theodore Nott stood in the doorway, arms crossed and looking devious. He gave a wicked grin, "Private eyes, eh? Well, I got just the case for two old codgers..."
