Chapter Text
It’s been a week since New Year’s Eve, and, of course, everything that happened that day. Avery was dreading school beginning again. He wasn’t sure if his mental health could handle all the pressure. He wasn’t the brightest, and his grades showed it. Pretty much the only time his mother spoke to him was to belittle him about his half-ass grades, and that obviously wouldn’t help him at a time like this. Sadly, he couldn’t just skip school- college was expensive, and he couldn’t waste his family’s money, so he prepared to drive back upstate to his campus.
Avery yawned as he stretched and climbed out of bed. He had a 9:00 World History class, and his alarm range at 7:45. He made his bed, brushed his teeth, and picked out a simple outfit before taking his bike to the class building. The class was working on the American Revolution, and they had an essay today. Thankfully, one of Avery’s old friends had forced him to watch Hamilton when he was 12, so he wasn’t too worried. Avery hurried through the class doorway and took a seat where he usually sat in the middle of the class.
”Alright, class. It’s good to have you back in school!” Avery’s teacher said.
For you it might be.. Avery thought
”Now, before we begin, I would like to introduce our brand new student!”
Another boy walked into the room and waved to the class, smiling. At least he doesn’t seem like a bitch, Avery thought.
”Meet our new student, Derek Hutchins!”
Avery nearly choked on his saliva. Derek. Why Derek, of all names?! Did the universe just want to torment him?
Derek took his seat closer to the front of the room, and Avery tried not to look at him. As Avery wrote, he stole a glance at Derek speeding through his essay. Avery bit his lip to avoid scowling.
He hardly paid attention the rest of the class. As soon as it ended, he sped out the door as fast as he could to his next class. As soon as he reached the class, he sighed with relief. He could finally pay attention.
Until Derek walked into that class as well.
Avery froze. How? Was he that unlucky? It seemed that way. Avery breathed heavily, fuming, literally sprinting to his next class.
But Derek was there too.
And the next class.
Derek was in every single one of Avery’s classes. How?! Why!? The universe was really against him.
Avery was still upset when he reached his dorm. He instantly flopped onto the bed and went to sleep.
