Never in Eijiro’s 16 years of living did he think he would ask out Bakugo Katsuki. I mean his friendship with him was good enough, so why did he want more? That question can’t be answered as of right now. Maybe later, but not now. Since it was the weekend, Eijiro thought about asking Katsuki if he would like to go for a walk. During their walk, Eijiro would confess to Katsuki. The only issue is, he’s so scared of rejection. No one really likes rejection, so it was completely normal for Eijiro to be scared of it.
Thinking about it kinda freaked him out, so he decided to go knock on Katsuki’s dorm room door and hope he answers. It didn’t take long for the door to swing open with a familiar face. That was Katsuki’s face. His spiky blonde hair, pretty red eyes and sharp expression had Eijiro all over this guy.
“Hey Bakugo! I..umm..I wanted to know if you wanted to.. you know, take a walk..?”
“Sure…”
And just like that, the door shut. That almost felt like rejection. Eijiro hates that feeling. A mix between defeat and victory wore itself on his face as he walked back to his dorm room. He quickly got ready and replaced his slippers for a pair of simple trainers before making his way to Bakugo’s dorm room to see if he was ready. Before Eijiro could get there, Bakugo had already stepped out of his room. As they both went down to the common room, a few others (Mina, Kyouka and Denki) gave a few suspicious stares prior to letting them be. And off they went!
Their walk was oddly…silent. Eijiro knew he had to break the silence somehow, but he didn’t know how. I mean, how could you possibly break the silence in a non awkward way? After another minute, Bakugo spoke, “Why did you invite me to take a walk if you’re not even gonna talk?” His voice was rough. Almost as if he didn’t want to be here right now. Oh my god, this has got to be the most awkward situation Kirishima Eijiro has ever been in. “Heh, sorry about that. I guess i’ve been so fixated on the scenery that i forgot to speak,” lies. Absolute bullshit. He’d been staring at his feet the entire time, so what ‘scenery’ is he walking about? It was clear that Bakugo doubted whatever he said. “Yeah right, you’ve been staring at your feet. What about your feet intrigues you? Look Shitty hair, if there’s something you have to say, say it now.”
“Promise you won’t laugh?”
“Whatever just tell me.”
“Ok. Well…If I’m being so real, I like you. Not even like, I love you Bakugo.”
Finally, he’s said it. Why was he so scared to earlier? Bakugo stops. He looks…confused? He turns around in the opposite direction of Eijiro.
“I…I don’t like you back, Kirishima.”
Oh.
Oh.
Is this what rejection truly feels like? Kirishima has never truly felt rejection. It’s always small things, not stuff like this. He hates it. It makes his heart ache. That feels so awful , so all he can do is respond with a simple, “Oh…ok.” It’s so awkward it makes him want to cry. Tears well up in his eyes, though he keeps them trapped. Was he not enough or too much? He’ll never know the answer to that. He’s too scared to ask. That sucks.
“I’m gonna go now. Thanks for inviting me…i guess.” Bakugo walked away with that same confused expression, leaving Eijiro with a shattered heart. Dammit! Why did it have to end like this? Slowly, with shaky hands, he reaches for his phone and calls Denki. When he picks up, he asks Denki to come and walk him home and Denki does. “So that’s what happened? I’m so sorry dude…” They talked about the situation and shortly after made it back to the dorms.
Oh there’s Mina. Why does she look so…worried?
“Kiri, are you alright?”
“Yeah I am.” They could tell he was lying. Tears were slowly making their way down his cheeks, it was pretty obvious he wasn’t ok. Kirishima learned something that day: rejection feels awful, it’s a shame he had to experience it first hand.
No one likes being rejected, Eijiro was apart of that group of people.
Rejections the worst.
