Chapter Text
The final bell rung, dismissing the students from their classes. Dismissing his love from the only thing keeping them apart. His legs began to move to find her without permission. “Hey, lover boy.” Emmett boomed with Rosalie on his arm. Edward rolled his eyes at his favorite brother.
“Hello, Em.” Edward sighs.
“You bringing the future vamp today?” Emmett voices lowers at “vamp”.
“No, I’m bringing Bella today.” Edward corrects.
“Tomato, Tomato.” Emmett shrugs.
Edward’s jaw unclenches as his best friend skips her way to them. “Hi, guys. Esme’s cooking meatloaf and Carlisle needs to speak with us.” Alice sings with Jasper tagging close behind. “Any reason why?” Rosalie questioned. “I can’t seem to catch that but I see Bella among us.” Alice beams at the mention of her best friend. “Bella?” Edward mumbles to himself. Curiosity weighing heavy on their minds, they don’t seem to realize the girl in thought walking towards them.
“Hi, guys.” She waves. “Bella! We were just talking about you.” Alice smiles, linking her arm with hers. “You were? What for?” She looks to Edward. “Alice had a vision and it seems Carlisle wants to speak with us.” Edward informs. “A-all of us.” Bella points at everyone including her. “Yep. All of us. Let’s go.” Alice says before she drags Bella away to the car with Jasper on their heels.
“Alice. Her car.” Edward calls after them.
“You’re a strong man. You drive it.” Alice giggles as she tosses Bella’s keys to him. Jasper sends him an amused smile while Bella’s apologetic smile stopped the low curses meant for Alice’s ears. Emmett and Rosalie’s laughs fills his ears just as he thought the irritation was gone.
“See you in a couple hours.” Emmett laughs.
“A couple of hours? In that thing? Give him a few days.” Rosalie chuckles.
Emmett laughs putting his arm around her shoulders. Them laughing manically left Edward no longer quieting his curses. “Match made in hell.” Edward sneers.
Edward sits in the rusty, worn down truck. Everything in him down to his very essence screaming this is wrong. “Just start the truck.” Edward whispers to himself. After a few cranks the engine roars to life with a few sputters. As students begin to pile out of the parking lot so does Edward. Edward looks in the rear view mirror to see his siblings long gone.
Edward continued down the usual long winding road. His vision being overcome with trees and road, the truck only going thirty miles per hour and no further. “Oh God.” Edward drags a sigh. In the distance, he could hear a vehicle moving. Moving fast. Like he should be. He should already be home, waiting for this sudden discussion. “I should be home by now.” Edward stomps on the gas, jolting the vehicle forward. “Yes. Thank you.” Edward sighs.
Almost as if the truck had a grudge against him, it began to slow gradually to fifteen miles. Life came to jab at his defeated mood. That vehicle was back and getting closer and closer. Edward began to think he was being targeted when the speedometer started to decrease and the truck began to jerk. “No? No. No. You’ve got to be kidding me.” Edward groans, beating at the steering wheel. He could hear Bella’s timid yet stern voice saying “hey, don’t hate the truck.”
He got out and lifted the hood only to be greeted by dark grey smoke. Like his day couldn’t get any worse, that vehicle was about to speed past him. Just as the vehicle rounded the corner and he was about to give life a big “fuck you”, the speeding vehicle began to slow and come to a halt.
Right beside him.
“Everything alright?” A husky voice called.
Edward knew by the sound of the vehicle, this man was riding a motorcycle. A well kept motorcycle. Edward couldn’t lift his head, the embarrassment keeping his head bowed. “Yeah.” Edward tried. “No. No, you’re not.” The stranger chuckled, cutting off his bike. “No, not at all.” Edward laughed defeatedly. “I’m good with cars, if you want my help?” The man offered. “Uh, sure. Any damage is better than the state it’s in now.” Edward laughs.
“Hey, don’t hate the truck. With a few good visits to a shop and it will be cruising in no time.” The man playfully scolds. “Oh God, not you too.” Edward chuckles. “Huh?” The stranger chimes. “The owner of this truck says the same thing.” Edward informs. “Well, do they know anything about cars?” The man asks, rummaging through his hidden console. “No.” Edward deadpans and the man laughs. “Uh well take it from a slight professional.” The motorcyclist reassures. “Slight?” Edward interjects, heading around the truck to give the man some space and to get that putrid car smell out of his face. It was starting to clog up his senses.
“Yeah. Professional is still in there.” Edward could hear the smirk in the motorcyclist’s voice. “According to whom, exactly?” Edward played along. “Um well, my friends and a seventy eight year old woman I helped around… a year ago.” The man said quietly and Edward couldn’t help the surprised laugh that jumped from his throat. “A year ago?” He laughed. “Yes.” The man laughed with him. “So that means my title is still good for another few months.” Edward continued to chuckle at the man’s playful nature.
The silent between the two was surprisingly comfortable. It wasn’t until Edward heard duck tape being stretched that he became a tad bit worried. “Why do you have duct tape?” Edward eyes narrowed as he peeked from around the back of the truck. “Remember the slight part.” The man said lowly. “Yes.” Edward drags suspiciously. “I don’t have my toolbox on me, so right now, duck tape is our best friend.” The stranger concluded. A understanding laugh came from the vampire, “Okay. I’m fine with that. As long as it runs.” Edward assured, putting his trust in the man.
Once again the silence was comfortable. Edward didn’t even realize nor care that he hadn’t seen the man’s face. His body being shielded by the hood left an element of anticipation. “Sir, if you don’t mind me asking, what do you do for work?” Edward asked as he climbed and sat on the top of Bella’s truck. “So suddenly?” The man chuckled. “Just curious.” Edward wondered, looking to the sky. “I work at a new auto shop.” The man said. “Makes sense, Mr. Slight Professional.” Edward chuckles and the stranger soon follows.
“You?” The man throws back. “I’ve done a lot with my time but as of now, I’m in school.” Edward answers. “That was kind of cryptic but kudos to you. I need to finish up the rest of my education.” The motorcyclist chuckled. “Hate to sound like a broken record but if you don’t mind me asking, what prevented you?” Edward questioned. “Life at home became dull. Stressful. Unfortunately that began to bleed into my education.” Pity bled into his undead heart.
“I believe it’s my mother’s fault that…” The man chuckled but it was evident his mind was elsewhere. “I can’t stay in one place for too long before I sorta crack, you know.” The stranger laughed sadly. “So at fifteen, I left and haven’t been back until now.” The strange man drummed lightly on the upper bumper.
“I’m the complete opposite. I don’t really like change. Change was forced upon me, just when my life began.” The stranger hums at the vampire’s words. “Constantly changing schools, clothes, people, materials. Never stopping to enjoy and appreciate. But I’m powerless as far as controlling the constant change. I can only watch it unfold before me.” Edward sighs, running his hand down his face.
“If you don’t mind me asking, was this sudden change something you regret?” The stranger asked. “Some days, yes and other days, absolutely not.” Edward answered truthfully. “Good.” The man pulled more tape. “Why is that good?” Edward asked puzzled. “I mean I’m glad you didn’t have an answer because I have some decent advice.” The man says and Edward couldn’t help but laugh at the strange man.
Edward peers over to get a look at the man. The only thing he was able to catch was a glimpse of the man’s raven-like black hair as the car hood blocked his being. “I usually tell myself, if I can’t seem to determine whether I regret something or not then it was meant to be.” The strange man hypothesized. “Some days, I miss the family and friends I left behind and other days it was the best decision I ever made.” The man said. “So what are you trying to say?” Edward ponders. “Look forward, not back. There’s a reason the rear mirror is smaller than the windshield. There’s so much more to see ahead than back.” The man reasoned, leaving a positive silence in its wake.
“You’re a strangely wise man.” Edward chuckles in slight awe.
“Vice versa.” The smile in the man’s voice was so prominent, it was soon contagious. “If you don’t-” but the man interjects. “If I don’t mind you asking? No, I do not.” The man chuckles as he rips more duck tape. “Okay, good. Sorry.” The vampire chuckled nervously. “How old are you?” Edward asked. “Why?” The man questioned. “Just wondering.” Edward shrugged.
“I’m eighteen.” The stranger complied.
“Eighteen?!” Edward gasps.
“Yes. How old did you think I was?” The man laughed. “I don’t know. In your thirties or something.” Edward laughed, taken aback. “Thirties?! Oh, God.” The stranger groaned humorously.
“What made you think I was in my thirties?” The stranger says, shaking his head with faux disappointment. “I take it back. I’m no longer imagining an older man with a pot belly.” Edward jokes. “A pot belly?!” The stranger exclaims and Edward laughs brightly. “I’m kidding, partially.” Edward whispers the last part to himself. “I heard that but I’m gonna pretend like I didn't.” The man sniffled before they both chuckled.
The positively comfortable silence had the vampire’s mind running wildly. The pure anticipation of seeing this guy’s face had the vampire fidgeting. “I wonder what he looks like. His eyes. Are they brown? Green? Hazel? Blue possibly? How tall is he? Does he have a nice smile? So many possibilities.” The silence stretched as his mind continued to run and twirl.
“All done. It should run now.” The man dusted his hands.
“It still has that putrid smell. Clogging and polluting everything.” Edward mutters as the thick smog starts to dissipate. “I’m starting to believe it comes with the truck.” The man snickered. Sudden guilt sparked in Edward’s core. This nice man just spent half an hour fixing this godforsaken truck and he was still complaining. “Oh I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to seem ungrateful.” He apologized. “No, it’s quite alright.” The stranger guaranteed. The vampire jumped down and landed beside the driver door. “Could you crank it up? Let’s put my expertise to the test.” The man dusted his hands off and secured the duck tape in his console.
The vampire turned the key once. Nothing. Twice. Maybe a sputter or two. A third and there it was. A roar of the engine, it was working. “Yes! Thank you. Thank you so much.” Edward sagged with relief. “No problem.” The man waved off. “Let me thank you properly.” Edward said, shutting the truck door. The wait was almost over. He’s right there, only three steps away. The anticipation was so nerve-wracking, he couldn’t suppress the excited smile on his face.
“Um, thank you again.” Edward went up to the man, his hand inviting and arm outstretched. “No problem.” The man shook his hand with quite a firm grip. To say the stranger blew his expectations out of the water was an understatement. His eyes were dark chocolate brown. His glossy raven-like hair was long and healthy, practically shining in direct sunlight. His skin was a beautiful russet color. Without a doubt, he was of Native American descent. His stature was big. He was big. He had to be six foot six or seven. His chest spoke volumes through his black tee. He was big but he was so open and inviting, it’s kind of hard to feel reserved.
The absolute difference between the two was astonishing. The stranger was dressed in all black. Black boots, black shirt, black jeans and a leather jacket. Whereas the vampire dressed in a light blue polo shirt, dark washed jeans and converse. “Like I said, it’s no problem.” The stranger’s words come to a halt. “Wow.” He nods his head. “What?” Edward smirked shyly. He knew the man found him good looking. “Damn. He’s pretty.” The stranger’s mind rang and Edward couldn’t hide the knowingly smile on his lips.
“Nothing.” The stranger smiled. The vampire couldn’t help it as he became starstruck. The man’s smile was naturally breathtaking. Every tooth perfectly straight, pearly white and his canines were suspiciously sharp. His smile wasn’t breathtaking because he was bitten but naturally designed as such. “What?” The stranger smiled again. “Nothing.” Edward shook his head shyly, trying to find something to do with his hands. “What did I do?” The motorcyclist chuckles slightly confused. “Nothing. It was nothing. Edward fighting his own smile. The man’s brow arched puzzled before he goes to poke Edward. Edward laughs as he goes to swat his finger.
As he stepped forward, he drew in the man’s scent and was hit with a wet dog smell.
As Edward came closer, the stranger was hit with a sweet decomposing acidic smell.
“Are you…?” Edward reeled back, grimacing.
“Are you a…?” The stranger asked, holding his nose.
“A fucking vampire. Huh.” The stranger looked the vampire up and down before he was smirking again. “My day just got a whole lot more interesting.” The man says stunned. A chuckle of disbelief jumps out of him. He turns to get onto his bike. “See you around, stranger.” The man said before revving his bike.
As shock wore off, quickly Edward realized the stranger was leaving. Surprisingly he didn’t want him to even knowing he was a werewolf. It was the first time in a long time where Edward had laughed so freely and the man responsible, he was never going to see him again. His mind and body screamed for him to do something. Say something. Anything to prolong this strange encounter.
“You’re voice!” Edward somewhat shouts over the loud motor.
“Huh?” The werewolf turns to the vampire.
“Y-you’re voice. That’s why I thought you were in your thirties.” Edward spills out.
“Is that a bad thing? My voice.” The werewolf arches his brow.
“No. It’s very deep. Husky, almost. It’s nice.” Edward gives a small smile. Edward didn’t know what he was thinking and knew embarrassment would hit him once this feeling washed away. The werewolf stares at him for a while, examining every inch of the vampire. After what seems like eternity, the strange werewolf hums at the man’s answer. The vampire hums back playfully with a more inviting smile. The werewolf smiles back. “Thank you.” The wolf finally says. “Like I said, no problem.” Edward recites and the man lets out a low chuckle.
“I really hope to see you around, leech.” The man narrows his eyes playfully.
“Same to you, dog.” Edward narrows them back.
The werewolf gave him one last smile before he revved his engine and his motorcycle took him with the wind. Edward walked back to the truck, the smile the werewolf left on his face was still proudly there. He shook his head in joyful disbelief. The vampire felt odd like he had a knot at his center.
A mystified Edward entered the truck unable to do anything but blink. “He’s a dog.” He whispered. The vampire thought back on the entire encounter. Not once did the stranger lead him to believe he was a werewolf. He wasn’t rude, arrogant nor was he quick to anger. He was nothing like the werewolves he met at the meeting a few months prior. He shook off the aftershock and began to venture home, needing his girlfriend.
“Bella!” His mind screamed and he pushed the car as fast as it could go. “I almost forgot.” As the thought entered his mind, so did shock. “I almost forgot Bella. No, I completely forgot about Bella.” Edward almost whispered aloud. “I need to get home.” Edward groaned, shaken up a bit.
After a long treacherous ordeal with Bella’s truck, Edward pulls near the side of the driveway. No hum of the engine or tires against road could occupy his mind. Nothing did but that charming werewolf. “I wonder where he’s heading to in such a rush. Is he friends with the Quileute tribe? Family? No, he can’t be. He’s so different from them. Too different. He must be a werewolf passing through. He would have recognized me, everyone knows the Cullens.” He departs from the truck, making his way into his home.
“Two hours later and he finally returns.” Emmett picks at him. “Leave him be, Emmett. Hello, Edward.” Esme greets sweetly. “Hello, Esme.” Edward gives her a hug while sending Emmett a wicked look over her shoulder.
“Edward.” Bella breathes a breath of relief. “Hello.” He smiles lightly. “Hi.” Bella whispers, coming to wrap him in a hug. “What took you so long?” She lifted herself on her toes to plant a quick kiss on his lips. “You’re truck doesn’t like me much.” Edward narrows his eyes playfully. “Oh. I’m sorry. I knew I should've driven it, Alice.” Bella says guiltily, turning to Alice. “Uh, what? No, it’s fine.” Edward stopped her, expecting a different reaction.
He realized he was no longer talking with his new stranger. “Oh, okay. Um should we fill you in or do you feel like reciting the entire discussion?” Bella's eyes cast downwards as Carlisle’s gaze lands on her. “I’ll keep it short and sweet. Thank you.” Carlisle concludes. “There is someone coming to Forks. It’s someone they know but don’t, not really. According to him, he was a part of their pack but left home some time ago.” Edward's mind drifted to the strange wolf he met earlier. “All they told us was he’s a rule breaker and he doesn’t seem to be turning a new leaf.” Carlisle summarized.
“So what does this mean exactly?” Edward said looking around the room.
“It means we have a rogue werewolf coming to Forks.” Carlisle says bluntly, his eyes finding Bella’s immediately. She felt as Edward’s body freeze. His eyes captured everyone’s in shock. Apologies rang loudly from Alice.
“A what?” Edward grits as Bella’s face held a confused expression.
“This is serious, Edward. Bella lives near the Reservation.” Jasper drawls.
“The Reservation?” Bella chimes in. No one said a thing, only looking to him for permission. “What about The Reservation? What does Billy and his family have to do with this?” Bella looks up at him.
“Oh, for crying out loud. Can I tell her? I’ve been wanting to for the longest.” Emmett practically whines.
“No.” Edward said sternly before turning to Bella. Another secret revealed, another potential danger.
“Edward, let him. It’ll stay with him for a decade if you don’t.” Alice sympathized. “I don’t care who tells me, someone just tell me.” Bella snaps. “Don’t mind if I do.” Emmett walks up to her, moving Edward out of the way. “Well, little sis. Since you’re soon to be family, it’s only fair you know.” Emmett says, grabbing her hands dramatically. “Most of the people, well the men really, are werewolves. One of our greatest enemies besides our own kind.” Emmett reveals. No one says a thing, letting another one of their secrets linger.
“No. No. I’ve- no.” Bella stammers, trying hard to think back on any signs. “Yes. Have you noticed their drastic growth spurt?” I questioned. “Or their sudden arrogance.” Alice said sharply. “Or their rudeness.” Rosalie sneers. “Okay, I got it. You don’t like them.” Bella swayed uncomfortably. “It’s not that we don’t like them, it’s the fact that they are reckless and extremely dangerous. A hazard is the highest compliment you can give their kind.” Edward says disgusted as Bella simply nodded her head. “You’re going to be fine. You’ve got us.” Jasper gives her a small smile. “You’re just gonna have to put up with me a lot more now.” He smirked, pulling her into his side. “I think it’s quite the opposite since you don’t get tired, hungry, cold or hot.” Bella started to ramble as she drew in his scent.
A few light laughs scattered across the room at her humane habits. “I’m guessing that won’t be a problem then?” He smiled. “No. Not at all but Charlie wants me home a little earlier than usual.” Bella pressed her head into his hard chest. “Why? Everything alright? If you don’t mind me asking.” As the reminiscent words left his mouth, his mind took him back to the strange werewolf.
It made him wonder where the werewolf was?
What could he possibly be doing?
Is he the rogue wolf? Has to be. Right?
“Edward.”
Did he introduce himself to the wolves already residing here?
There’s no way he isn’t the rogue wolf.
“Edward?”
Was he a lone wolf?
An alpha?
Can alphas travel alone like he is?
“Edward!” Carlisle slightly raised his voice. “Yes?” He responded confused. “You zoned out for a second.” Bella says, obviously worried. “Oh, I’m sorry. I don’t know what’s gotten into me.” He kissed her forehead as an apology. “It’s fine. I should be heading home now.” Bella smiles tightly running her hands through her hair.
“I’ll drive you.” He volunteers quickly. “What’s wrong with using my truck?” Bella quirks. “If we use your truck then we won't arrive until the sun has set.” Edward couldn’t help but groan at the treacherous journey he endured. “I got it.” Emmett says before he rushes out of the room. “He’ll bring it home for you, sweetheart.” Esme says before giving her a light hug and heading into the kitchen. “Thank you.” Bella whispers which does not go unheard. “Let’s go.” He smiles, grabbing her hand.
“Bye Bella!” Alice calls.
“Goodbye, Bella.” Carlisle nods, heading to his study.
Jasper just gave her a tight smile and a nod while Rosalie did what Rosalie always does. Act like Bella doesn’t exist. As they made their way outside, Emmett caught up with them. “Hey, Ed. Come here a sec.” Emmett called him over. Edward sent him a confused look but the serious look in his eyes told him he wanted him now. “Can you wait for me in the car? I’ll be there in a second.” He turns to Bella. “Uh, sure.” She nods, somewhat skeptical. They waited to hear her shut the passenger door before Emmett turned his attention on him.
“Okay, what’s wrong? Am I going to need to buy her a car?” He questioned but his favorite brother didn’t respond. He just stared. “Edward?” He simply said. “Emmett, I don’t have time for this. I need to get Bella home.” He complained. “I went outside to fix Bella’s truck and I saw nothing but duct tape. I thought maybe she tried to fix it herself but the parts that were duct taped, only a professional would know where to put it.” Emmett begins. “Oh that’s because-” Edward tried to explain. “I’m not finished.” Emmett’s voice held not a hint of humor. Questions and questions raced through Edward’s mind at his rare tone.
“When I went to inspect further, I was hit with a wet dog smell. It wasn’t prominent but it was there. Do you have any idea why a wet dog smell would be under Bella’s hood?” Emmett’s eyes held his. “It’s– Emmett, what are you accusing me of?” He began to explain himself but the look in Emmett’s eyes, it didn’t sit right. The suspicion in his eyes made his skin itch. “Nothing. I’m merely asking a question.” He said, diverting the truth.
His undead heart was telling him to just tell him. Well it’s not his fault. He didn’t know he was a werewolf until it was too late. Although that was the more rational option, Edward’s mind was screaming to keep his encounter with the wolf a secret.
He meant it when he said he hoped to see him around.
He wasn’t like the regular wolves he’s unfortunately met. Nor was he like any guy he’s ever met. Young or old. He’s strangely wise, funny, quite charming and very easy to be around. Not to mention but he’s extremely pleasing on the eyes. And his mind. His mind! His mind is so refreshingly quiet. It’s not polluted with sex, dumb questions, nor is it concerningly blank. He’s rare. He could be a friend that’s certainly out of his comfort zone. Their time together could be interesting and he’s not interested in giving up something he hasn’t experienced yet.
“Well when I was making my way here…” Think Edward! Come on, Edward! “…I pushed Bella’s truck past its limits and it broke down on me. Thankfully an older gentleman saw me and offered me some help. He unfortunately had a K9 and a Pit Bull in the back seat, hence the smell. He said he didn’t have his tool box but he had duct tape. He was, what he called himself, a slight professional.” Edward couldn’t help the small smile present on his lips. “From what you said, he did a pretty good job.” He sorta kind of lied. The silence stretched between them as he thought it over.
“Oh well yeah that makes sense.” Emmett said sort of embarrassed. “Yeah, what did you think happened?” He tried to laugh off. “I don’t know. I just thought maybe one of wolves were messing with Bella’s truck. You know, since you two are together and all. Some tatic to keep her from us, I don’t know.” Emmett laughs awkwardly. “Oh okay. Thank you. I’m glad you’re as protective of her as I am. Gives me a little peace of mind.” He genuinely thanked him.
Edward gave him a nod but something was nagging him. It wouldn’t hurt to ask. “If you thought the wolves were responsible then why were you suspicious of me?” He put directly. “I didn’t-” “You don’t need to lie to me. You did. I seen it in your eyes. ” The hypocrisy of his words bit at his tongue. “Not to be too blunt but you have a tendency to be knight in shining amour and tend… to overreact.” Emmett crosses his arms, a habit of his.
When he saw his confused expression, he elaborated further. “I thought you knew and you were going to confront them or something. I wanted you to understand going after a pack of wolves alone is/was incredibly stupid.” He had that unusual serious look in his eyes. “I know.” Edward reassured him. “Are you sure?” His hard look unwavering. “Yes. I promise. I wouldn’t deny you the chance to put some dogs in their place.” He hit his shoulder, reassuringly. “I know you wouldn’t. If you did, I would beat you and their asses.” Emmett smiles widely, returning the hit just a bit harder. The message was definitely loud and clear.
After they were what seemed to be about a quarter mile past the house, he finally got the chance to ask.
“Why does Charlie want you home earlier than usual?” “Oh, he said something about spending quality time.” Bella scoffs quietly. “What’s so bad about spending time with your father?” His brows furrowed at her sharp out take of breath. “It’s just that I know what he’s doing. He’s trying subtly to put distance between us.” She looks out the window, obviously ticked off. “It’s just another sacrifice for our love.” He held her hand, lightly massaging it, trying somehow to ease away the tension. She gave him a small smile, holding his hand a little tighter. “Another obstacle until I’m like you.” Her mood heightened at her own words and he could only grimace and accelerate the vehicle.
Before either of them knew it, they were pulling into her driveway. “It’s better if I don’t come in.” He sighed. “Why?” She asked, worry raking her body. “I’m trying to get on your father’s good side.” I chuckled defeatedly. “You’re coming back later though, right?” She asked, the silent plead in her eyes didn’t go unnoticed. “Of course.” He asserted, hoping to see the pleading leave her eyes. She gives a nod, not completely believing him but willing to. “Okay. I’ll see you later.” She quickly presses her lips to his.
He pulls back before it became too much. Her heart beating strong in his ears. Her delicious untouchable blood so close yet so far. It would only take a little pressure and it would be his. All of it until there was nothing left but a lifeless corpse. He would never. He could never do it. Never again. “I’ll see you soon, my love.” Her smile widens. “What?” Edward was perplexed by her sudden expression. “You’re eyes. They’re dilating a-and darkening.” Her voice smug but little did she know, it was simply her blood not the kiss. Guilt ate at his chest and unbeating heart. “Oh.” He looked away ashamed. “No need to be shy. Everyone loses control sometimes.” She smiled brightly. He could only hum in agreement.
“Of course. Of course um, tell me how everything goes. Goodbye, my love.” He says and she reels back confused at his sudden abrupt departure. Taking advantage of the space between her and the door, Edward forcibly shut the door. Charlie comes outside when he purposely revved his Volvo. “Oh sweetheart, you’re home.” He walks down his porch steps but Bella’s eyes never leaves the Volvo. “Edward.” Charlie’s eyes harden as they meet his. “Hello sir. I’m just dropping her off.” He said politely. “Mhm. Come on in the house, Bella.” Charlie prompts.
“Edward?” She whispers.
“I’ll be back.” He said firmly. He needed to get out of there. Hunt. Kill something. Just far from the beautiful liquid pumping through her.
“Edward?” She whispers, almost frantically. He backed out of the driveway and sped off, not before hearing her say his name that last urgent time. Although it hurt to see her call his name in such a manner, he had to get out.
Once he rounded the corner, he pushed the car past a hundred and ten. Never needing to stop at any lights, no stubborn drivers, just him and the road. His mind guiding him to his familiar safe place. The woods. The eerie vibrant trees, the thriving ecosystems, the calming winds that take every one of his problems with each passing kiss.
As he parked his car in the drive way, he was gone before anyone could sense him. And that’s all he needed right now. He needed to disappear for a while. The absolute need fueling the power in his core, pushing faster with every ticking second. To humans he has disappeared.
“Same to you, dog.” The pretty vampire sent a cheeky smile.
He was interesting to say the least. Unlike and yet so similar to the vampires I’ve encountered. Graceful yet mellow. As stupid as it sounds, it’s true. He’s different. Hope to see the man again, maybe get a chance to dissect this rare kind of vampire.
He sent a smile his way and the vampire seemed somewhat dazzled. Truly intriguing. Before the vampire could distract him any further, he took off with the wind.
I need to focus on my goal. On the reason I came back to this cold, wet, hell hole. My father. My friends. My family.
It’s been two and half years since I left. I need to see with my eyes that he’s okay. That he’s alive and well. I need that relief. That unbearable weight crushing my shoulders and chest. I need it gone.
