Chapter Text

Severus stood at the edge of the astronomy tower, his lean frame hunched over the railing. He had been the headmaster of Hogwarts for 2 weeks now, and it had been horrible.

From allowing the Carrows to torture his ex-students, to the looks the rest of his ex colleagues gave him, it was pure agony.

However, he had a role to play. And there was nothing he could do but hold onto his everlasting loneliness and knowledge alone.

knowledge that Potter was to die.

Lilys boy..

It was pure torture. Yet, he deserved it - if anything.

His only reprive was knowing that he would soon die - it was a fact. He was confident that he wouldn’t survive this war. Whether at the hand of The Dark Lord, a member of the light, or possibly his own; Severus Snape wouldn’t live to see 40. He’d make sure of it.

He looked up at the stars, for once - he hoped the muggles were right, and that ‘Hell’ existed. That way, Severus could burn and suffer for eternity just as he deserved.

Even then, he could never atone for his horrid sins.

It took decades of practised sheer willpower for Severus Snape to not throw himself off of the Astronomy Tower.

The death it would bring wouldn’t be painful enough anyways.

Maybe being forced to continuously live was agonising retribution within itself.

Lily never got the chance to properly live.

He let tears spill freely, it had been years since he had allowed himself such a slip, but once they started - they were impossible to stop.

He failed to notice a tabby cat watching him heave, gut wrenching sobs escaping him.
She would not confront him about what she had witnessed that night.

I don’t have first hand experience with suicidal thoughts and self hatred, so I apologise if anything is inaccurate.
