It’s easier to love when it’s local! Montreal Metros Shane Hollander and Hayden Pike stopped by to shop local this holiday season.

Melanie: So, Shane, what are you going to read next?
Shane grins and holds up two books. The camera zooms into the first one: An Inconvenient Indian by Thomas King, and then pans to the second: March: book 1 by John Lewis and Andrew Aydin
Melanie: Great choices! How did you decide what you were going to read next?
Shane: Well, I had a lot of help from the staff here, who were really great in connecting me with great reads, so I appreciate them.
Melanie: You’ve been reading a lot lately.
Shane: [laughs nervously] I’ve actually always enjoyed reading. I usually read books about hockey and its history, for obvious reasons.
Melanie: Why the switch?
Shane: Ilya Rozanov and I just launched The Irina Foundation, a mental health initiative that will operate here in Canada. I’ve been working to cement my career in hockey for as long as I can remember, and now that I have a strong legacy on the ice, I want to make a positive impact off of it too. Don’t worry, I plan on continuing my on-ice legacy too. I can’t wait to bring another cup home to Montreal.
Hayden: [appearing from behind Shane, yelling] damn straight!
Melanie: [laughs] Shane will be matching all our profits for the month of December! His match and 10% of our profits will go to You Can Play this holiday season. From all of us here at Quill and Queer Books and Coffee, go Metros and have a happy holiday!
