Chapter Text

Help Wanted

The handwritten sign had been taped up to Meenah’s office door.

She had severely underestimated how much work came with being an heiress and desperately missed her free time. She just needed someone to help manage her schedule a bit, plan meetings, or remind her when she had formal events. Nothing too complicated, she thought.

Her office was in impeccable shape for someone as laid-back as she was. She had every nook and cranny scrubbed so hard she could see her reflection in the floors. Only the best for a budding princess, she figured, thought it teetered on excessive.

Three short knocks fell on the door. “Come in,” she called out, not bothering to move her focus from work. It’s only when she heard the click of heels approaching the chair across from her did she look up. Aranea Serket, a sharp, cunning beauty who just happened to be Meenah’s best friend. Meenah let out a rough laugh, her eyes watering. “Sorry, Serks, I thought you were an applicant!”

“I am!”

Meenah paused, her smile fading to confusion. “You… wanna work for me? Serks, are you sure? I mean, it’s not like I’m gonna be your friend or nothing. I’m gonna be your boss, you feel?”

“Which is an even better reason why I fit! We already get along so we won’t bump heads. Plus, I’m very focused and organized, something I know you need,” she grinned ear to ear. It was clear she had no doubt in her mind she was gonna get the job. She was dressed to the tee, wearing her finniest blouse with a pencil skirt and Rudy red heels.

Meenah’s mouth went dry. Aranea was right, she was perfect for the job. She just doubted she could contain her…compulsions. Her soft lips, her round face, her chest that poked out of her top. Her breathing got heavy just looking at her. Imagining her constantly next to her, so close she can smell her perfume. It would be absolutely heaven, but a distraction nonetheless. And she couldn’t have that. She needed an assistant, not eye candy.

“I’m sorry, Serks, I just don’t think I can work with someone I’m friends with,” she lied through her teeth. A flash of anger spread across Aranea’s face before snapping, “That’s bullshit! I’m clearly the most qualified out of this time! C’mon, Meenah, don’t be stubborn!”
She sighed in defeat. “You have two weeks. If you do a shit job, you’re out.”
Aranea squealed with excitement before containing herself, smiling meekly.
“I promise you won’t regret it!!”
