“Right foot…left foot…” Charlie whispered, trying to remember the steps of her dance lessons as she stepped and twirled around.
“Heya princess!”
The small blonde girl looked up, surprised to see Stolas and Blitzo trotting into the big ballroom. “Hi guys!” she waved excitedly. “What’re you doing here?”
“My father had a meeting with your father and Blitzo happened to be coming over for the day so he asked if it was alright if we could come too,” Stolas chirped brightly.
“Why’re you moving around like that?” Blitzo wondered. “Do ya have to go to the bathroom?”
Charlie laughed a bit from his silly sense of humor before shaking her head. “No, I just had my dance lessons for the day and I’m just trying to remember the steps,” she explained, scratching the back of her head with a sheepish smile. “It’s a little hard.”
“Oh yeah? Let’s see,” Blitzo replied.
Stolas stepped forward, offering his hand to the princess. “May I be your partner for this dance?” he asked.
“Sure!” Charlie nodded, taking his hands as the music from the cassette player continued to play. “Sorry if this is a little weird.”
“It’s alright. You’re nicer than Stella is when we have our dance lessons,” he admitted, making all three kids laugh. “She steps on my feet on purpose.”
“Well I’ll try not to do that,” Charlie promised as they moved to the music.
Blitzo watched as the two royals danced to a weird combination of a waltz and a tango (in his mind he called it a Wango) and it looked…kinda fun? Fancy dancing never really sounded fun to the young imp since it was just spinning in a circle like everyone else. It just looked like gears in a machine that would move in a synchronized manner, putting everyone to sleep. He had debated about crashing one of those fancier parties but hearing Stolas and Charlie talk about them, he decided not to.
Most of those just had people standing around and talking.
Charlie was slowly getting used to the movements with her friend but she placed her foot in the wrong place and accidentally tripped over herself, causing her and Stolas to fall to the ground with a thud.
*FWUMP*
“Are you guys okay?” Blitzo gasped as he helped pull them back to their feet.
“Yes I’m alright,” the prince promised, dusting himself off.
“I don’t think I’m good at this,” the young blonde admitted, straightening her dress. “I usually dance with a mannequin but dancing just doesn’t seem very…fun.”
“I think I know what the problem is,” Blitzo commented, surprising the two royal kids. “You’re too stiff. Dancing’s supposed to be fun and wild! My mama and papa like dancing together and my sister and friend and I like wiggling around to music. Ya gotta get more wiggly!”
Stolas and Charlie blinked as Blitzo scampered over to the cassette player, picking up the box and reading it before finding the song he was looking for and skipping to it. A 70s pop dance song soon started to play, exciting the kids as Blitzo started to tap his foot to the beat. He was soon shaking his rump and wiggling around as ‘Dancing Queen’ by ABBA started to play over the speakers.
“Now this is dancing music!” he grinned, running up to grab his friends hands and get them to move to the music. “My parents love this crap so let’s groove to it! Let your inner disco dork out!”
Charlie slowly started to nod to the music as she started to bop along, grinning as she danced to the music. Stolas was twirling around, actually having fun dancing for once and enjoying the company of his dear friends. Blitzo knew they were actually good dancers and could do the fancy boring stuff later. She should enjoy herself while she can before she has to do princess stuff.
“Oh this is way better than dance lessons!” Charlie laughed, spinning in a circle with her friends.
“I never listened to this kind of music before but this is quite fun!” Stolas giggled as his tailfeathers swished behind him.
“Now you’re getting into it!” Blitz grinned.
As the kids were dancing and jumping around the ballroom, they were being watched by an amused Lucifer and a puzzled Paimon.
“I’m glad she can loosen up a bit,” Lucifer told his old friend.
“Is that…dancing?” Paimon questioned, more used to traditional waltzes at Goetia Galas. “There’s no rhyme or reason to it.”
“They’re just having fun,” the shorter king smiled, giving the owl monarch a knowing look. “You oughta know what that’s like after that Sinsmas party a few years back, right?”
Paimon could feel his feathers bristling as he glanced away. “I…don’t recall what you’re talking about,” he told him calmly.
“Sure ya do!” Lucifer grinned. “You got a little too wine drunk and were singing karaoke while doing the Hustle. You actually got in a dance battle with Beelzebub!”
“I-I thought we agreed not to discuss that!” the owl king hissed, hoping the children didn’t hear that. “That is why I only drink one glass of wine or any alcohol at gatherings like that from now on…”
“Because you turn into a dancing machine?” Lucifer snickered.
“Yes…and my back is bloody sore afterwards…” Paimon muttered, grunting when his fellow royal patted his back.
“Aw live it up a little!” he encouraged, dancing along as he watched the kids from a distance.
Paimon shook his head at his silliness but felt his own foot tapping to the beat of the disco music, unable to stop himself.
It really was very catchy.
