Chapter Text
My alarm rang for fifteen minutes before I decided it was finally time to get up. I sit up on my bed and rub my eyes when I hear a familiar voice calling out to me from outside.
“Come on Pips! We don’t want to be late on our first day do we?”
I glance out my window to see Caleb tapping an imaginary watch on his wrist with his pointer finger. I turn off my alarm and now I can clearly hear Caleb yelling through the window telling me to hurry up. I quickly shove my things into my bag and slip on my clothes before I run out the door and meet Caleb standing on the sidewalk with that I-told-you-so smile plastered across his face.
“I warned you a week ago, that if you didn’t try to fix your sleeping schedule you would have a difficult time waking up on the first day of school,” I roll my eyes and he pats my head. “You didn’t even have time to brush your hair,” he chuckles and then begins to ruffle my hair. I grab his wrist and shove his hand away from my head.
“Stop, you're not making my hair look any better,” he pulls his hand away and raises both his hands in surrender.
Then the sound of a door closing grabs our attention. We look behind us to see our new neighbor walking out his front door. The mysterious boy wearing same uniform as me and Caleb. He glances up at us, meeting our eyes for a split second before looking away again and continuing down the sidewalk. He’s got silver hair that almost matches the color of his fair skin.
“So that’s our new neighbor,” I whisper to Caleb.
“Yeah, looks like he’s been hiding from us huh?” Caleb smiles and looks over at me.
“Just because we haven’t met him yet doesn’t mean he’s hiding from us.”
“This is the first time we have seen him since he moved in two weeks ago. If he wanted to meet us already he would have, or at the very least we would have seen him by now.” I open my mouth, about to respond when Caleb waves at him. Even as the silver haired boy gets closer, he acts as if we weren’t there. “Hey, you’re walking to Silverlake High School as well right?” Caleb says, and the boy looks up.
“That’s right,” he says. His voice is quiet, but loud enough for us to hear. His feet are turned away from us like he wants to keep walking forward, but instead he’s forced to tolerate this conversation.
“Sick! Since we’re all headed the same way, why don’t we all head to school together?” Caleb nods his head gesturing at the sidewalk ahead of us.
“Sure,” he says and glances over slightly to the side opposite of Caleb.
“So, what’s your name?” I ask as we start walking.
“Xavier,” his eyes meet mine for a brief moment before looking at the sidewalk ahead.
