Chapter Text
Taehyung looked in the mirror, his round glasses were on but they needed to be cleaned, fuck, he couldn’t find his microfiber glasses cleaner, right when he’s about to go to class. Fuck, it always works out that way, doesn’t it? He quickly cleaned it off with his shirt then —headed out. It was scary to go on campus without scent blockers but for the most part the alphas on campus have been behaving lately. It was just one or two creeps that ruined it for everyone but, it didn’t matter.
Taehyung was in his last year of university and he was on a mission.
Find a mate.
He always had an aversion towards that early on, only dating two people in his life, one his high school sweetheart, a beta who loved him like crazy until he moved away and then another omega because well, it was no secret that Taehyung hated alphas. He hated their big stupid faces, their overpowering pheromones and their objectification of omegas. Most of them felt as though omegas had no right to their own bodily autonomy and that they were nothing but breeding factories for pups. Taehyung was a resident alpha-andrist; he hated their guts, truly.
So, he never sought out for a mate but once his parents told him he had to find his own way and they were going to stop helping him with money and funds for school, he realized he probably should just find an alpha who he could stand the very least and settle down, maybe? That what every omega did in society anyway, they couldn’t really make their own way without alphas, it kinda sucked.
Anyway, it could help to have someone to help Taehyung out until he got out of university and got his dream job in fashion merchandising or designing. Then again, the thought of actually being with an alpha made Taehyung feel ill so, maybe it wouldn’t work. Hopefully it won’t, he thought. At least, if his parents thought he was dating someone they would get off his back and still fund his life for awhile.
As he was walking towards his second class of the day, and he started to notice people looking at him, he thought that maybe it was just his scent because alphas stared at him all the time but he noticed betas and omegas staring at him too, and that’s when he started to feel weird. He sat down in his chair in class and started taking out his laptop, and noticed eyes were on him there too. He looked down and saw three alphas just staring at him then whispering something, and he started to worry.
What the hell was going on with everyone?
Taehyung tried to ignore it when he saw his best friend Jimin walk in, “Jiminie!” Taehyung smiled at him, and got up just to hug him, but when they hugged, the boys in class started taking pictures. “Hey! Those assholes just took a picture of us hugging?” Taehyung told Jimin.
“Taehyungie…” Jimin began.
“I’m going go confront them! What the fuck is their problem?” Taehyung got up, but was stalled by Jimin, “Jiminie… let go!”
“Taehyung, there’s a reason they’re taking pictures of us.”
“What?” Taehyung sat back down, “What reason is that?”
“This is why I hate that you’re so chronically offline,” Jimin sighed, “Taehyung there’s something you should know.”
“Tell me,” Taehyung responded, looking at him best friend seriously.
“Do you know Jeon Jeongguk?”
“Uh? I don’t think so?” Taehyung replied, “Why?”
“You know him probably by face, hold on,” Jimin took out his phone and showed Taehyung his instagram.
“Oh that guy, the douche bag alpha on the soccer team?!”
“Yes him,” Jimin nodded.
“Okay, what does he have to do with anything?”
“Taehyung…” Jimin exhaled sharply.
“Spit it out!!”
“He’s been um,” Jimin was hesitant to say, “He’s been going around campus telling everyone you’re his, he claimed you.”
“Excuse me?” Taehyung replied, in a nasty tone, “What the fuck?”
“I’m sorry Tete, I meant to tell you but you’re always so busy with classes and you don’t go on social media if you did you’d see its all over alphatweet, and the university message boards.”
“That son of a bitch!” Taehyung stood up, his hands slamming on the desk, “Where is he?”
“Taehyung, class is about to start!” Jimin expressed.
“I said where is he?!” Taehyung yelled, his arms crossed, and anger rising.
“He’s probably on the field, he’s usually there practicing.”
“Thank you.” Taehyung quickly grabbed his things, tossing them into his satchel before throwing it over himself. Jimin could tell he was upset because Taehyung didn’t let anything come between his studies, and he’s never missed a class but he didn’t ever want to be claimed, especially by an alpha. Fuck. Jeongguk was not ready for the wrath of Taehyung. Jimin almost felt bad for him. Well, almost.
Taehyung headed out before the professor got there, ignoring the hundreds of looks he kept getting in passing, because he knew now people were only staring at him because they thought he was screwing Jeon Jeongguk. That fucking asshole, he gave Taehyung a reputation without even knowing him or having a conversation. Taehyung couldn’t even think of a time they had met and just like Jimin said he didn’t have social media, he was basically a ghost in the university besides that one photo he took freshman year for the university new students yearbook, where he looked like a fetus fresh out of omega private school. Taehyung was virtually a nobody on campus, so as his converse hit the pavement towards the field he kept wondering how in the world did Jeon Jeongguk find him?
He came upon the field as he got lost in his own thoughts, his arms were still firmly planted in front of him as he made it to the field only to see a bunch of players kicking the ball around with each other. Once Taehyung came onto the field, the few who were on the bench noticed him and whistled to the other players, and as soon as they saw Taehyung they started a rouse of cooing loudly in Jeongguk’s direction. He was the only one who wasn’t looking because he was focused on practicing, until Jeongguk’s best friend nudged him on the field.
“Ya, Jeongguk-ah, is that not your mate?” The guy whispered to him, and as soon as Jeongguk looked up, he saw Taehyung stalking towards him.
“Shit!” He whispered, nowhere to run or hide.
“Dude he looks mad, what did you do to him?”
“Um, lovers quarrel?” Jeongguk lied to his friend.
“Jeon Jeongguk!” Taehyung yelled his name out as he came towards him, clearly pissed off. He stopped right in front of him, and saw him for the first time in person. He had big eyes that somehow got bigger as he looked back at Taehyung.
“Honey,” Jeongguk said softly, “W-what are you doing here?”
“Honey? Are you fucking kidding me? What am I doing here?” Taehyung grabbed him by his shirt and pulled him in, “You have some explaining to do, Jeon, now or else I’m gonna kick you so hard in the balls you’re gonna think you’re in labor by the way it hurts.”
All of his teammates were looking at him, and Jeongguk felt a desperate embarrassment that he’s never felt before. Jeongguk didn’t know what to say, he actually was hoping he never met Taehyung in person but fuck, word gets around campus fast, he guessed. All of his teammates were just staring with breaths bated, to see what Jeongguk would say or do next when suddenly one of Jeongguk’s teammates, kicked the ball downfield, and yelled “BALL!” it came flying down and before they both knew it, it was about to hit Taehyung but Jeongguk quickly moved Taehyung out of the way, and caught the ball, before glaring at his friend.
“Dude? What the fuck?” He yelled at him.
“What? We’re supposed to be practicing!” His teammate yelled back.
“You could’ve fucking hurt my mate, you idiot!” Jeongguk kicked the ball back to him.
“Whatever tell the omega to get the fuck off the field!”
“Shut up!” Jeongguk was livid with him, but still he turned around to see Taehyung still on the ground, confused about what just happened. He didn’t know Jeongguk but he had a reputation around campus, for being an alpha who could get and have any rank he wanted, he was a known player on and off the field, and never gave the relationship or gentleman type. Who the hell was the guy who just saved him from a ball on the field? Taehyung wondered. Jeongguk turned back towards him and offered his hand out to Taehyung who looked up at it, then gently he held onto him, letting Jeongguk’s full weight lift him up.
“I’m sorry about Minjun,” Jeongguk said softly, “He takes practice so seriously sometimes.”
“It’s um..” Taehyung tried not to notice how their hands were still connected, “It’s fine,” he slowly pulled away, “He has shit aim anyway.”
Jeongguk started laughing at that, and they both noticed that all of Jeongguk’s teammates were still watching them. As the leader, Jeongguk whistled to all of them to get back onto the field and after they disbursed, Jeongguk nudged Taehyung to get off the field with him but the defiant omega stood his ground, arms crossed and hip pointed out as he waited for explanation.
“Okay, look,” Jeongguk sighed softly, “I know you want an explanation so please come with me and I promise I’ll explain everything.”
Taehyung didn’t know if he wanted to go with him anywhere but Jeongguk didn’t seem like the alpha everyone says he was, but still he was an alpha, and Taehyung didn’t trust them, but could he trust him?
“Jeongguk—"
“C’mon, Taehyung, just come talk to me, I promise I don’t bite, that much.” He smirked, “So, are you in or are you out?”
