Non Current Liability had never seen anyone as beautiful as Non Current Asset. They both worked together at The Trial Balance, but Non Current Liability knew that Non Current Asset was never going to look his way. After all, Assets and Liabilities simply don't mix. NCL was expected to fall in love with, and marry, Current Liability. But NCL knew that his one true love was NCA. He had no feelings for CL. But there was no point in pining after NCA, and NCL nursed his love in secret.
It was yet another day at The Trial Balance, NCL was battling a heavy workload, the end of the accounting period was approaching, and with it, the time to prepare the Financial Statements. NCL loved this time of the accounting period even though it was busy, because he always got to see NCA often during this time. NCL glanced at his watch, his meeting with NCA was going to start soon! Unfortunately Current Asset and Current Liability were going to be there too. NCA hated Current Asset. He knew that CA had his eyes on NCA, and there was nothing he could do about it. After all, CA was naturally expected marry NCA. He set off for his meeting with a heavy heart.
When he entered the Board Room, he saw CA and NCA sitting close to each other. CA's hands were stroking NCA's neck, slowly. When they saw him, CA withdrew his hand quickly, with that stupid smug grin on his face that NCL hated so much. ''NCL! Here, have a seat.'' NCA said. His face was flushed, and NCL couldn't stop thinking about how pretty he looked. They shook hands, and NCL tried to memorise how smooth NCA's hands felt in his. After he took his seat, CL entered the room and quickly took the seat next to him. NCL hated CL. He was always incredibly clingy and annoying, and today was no different. CL started gushing over him, commenting on his new suit, and getting offended when he didn't reply. NCA waited for him to finish, and then said, ''We need to start posting entries to our Financial Statements now, so I'm going to need you guys to give me the balances for the Non current Liabilities and Current Liabilities.'' NCL and CL dutifully pushed over their drafts. They waited as CA and NCA scanned the documents.
NCL watched as a worried look passed over NCA's face. He was pleased to see that the stupid smug grin on CA's face was starting to droop. But why were they so worried? ''Uh...are these.. you're sure these are correct?'' CA asked. ''Of course I am. I've rechecked that several times.'' NCL replied. He was confused. What was the problem here? NCA got up, the worried look still on his face. ''These...uh well...the liabilities....are more than the assets.'' NCL and CL gasped. In all his years working for The Trial Balance, NCL had never witnessed a time when the liabilities had been more than the assets. This was bad, really bad. ''Are-are we going to become insolvent?'' He asked. ''If that's the case, we shouldn't prepare the Financial Statements on a going concern basis.'' ''A what concern?'' Asked CL. NCL sighed. How did this idiot not know about the term 'going concern'? ''Financial Statements are always prepared on a going concern basis. The belief that the company will continue operations for a foreseeable future.'' NCA was pacing around the room. ''Would you guys mind leaving? I need to think this through.'' He said. ''Don't worry baby, I'll stay.'' Said CA. NCA glared at him. ''No, you need to leave too.''
Although it was funny to see CA upset after NCA had rebuked him like that, NCL was distraught. He didn't care about becoming insolvent. It was NCA he was worried about. If The Trial Balance went under, he wouldn't see him ever again. Despite what NCA had said, he ran back to the Board Room after he was sure that CA and CL were far away. When he entered the Board Room, he saw NCA hunched over the documents, calculating the balances all over again. When he saw NCL standing in the doorway he didn't look mad, he almost looked relieved. Or was that just NCL being wistful? ''NCL...I'm...I'm sorry.'' He said. ''You don't have anything to be sorry about. This isn't anyone's fault. No one could have foreseen a situation where The Trial Balance would become insolvent.'' ''No its not that. I'm sorry about what I'm going to say to you.'' NCL turned pale. Was NCA going to get married to CA?
''The truth is NCL...ever since I joined this company....I-I haven't been able to take my eyes off you. I know its wrong, I know you're supposed to end up with CL and its terrible of me to press my emotions onto you like this, but I cant help myself. Especially since I know now that the company is going to become insolvent and I wont see you ever again...I just...I wish I had said something sooner but-but I was so worried about CA and what he might think and- NCL, why are you crying? I'm sorry I shouldn't have said all that to you! I knew it was a bad idea!'' NCL wiped happy tears from his eyes. ''No that-that's not it NCA... I...I've loved you too. From the very first day I met you, I've loved you.'' NCA gasped. ''You...You mean it?'' NCL nodded, too overwhelmed to say anything. NCA got up, and threw his arms around NCL. NCL grabbed NCA's waist and kissed him. He knew he didn't have to savour this and try to memorise this like he used to do during all his previous interactions with NCA. There would be more kisses to come, he was sure of that. As they drew apart, NCL was almost glad the company was going under. Because now he would get to spend more time with NCA. And the way NCA was looking at him, told him that he felt the same way too.
