Rudo where did you even get that?!

Summary:

Rudo was excitedly looking through the pile of trash, he had begged Enjin for days to come with him since Semiu told him he wasn't allowed to go alone. Eventually he finds a very weird looking bicycle and decides to fix it up. Only it wasn't a bicycle.

OR

Rudo finds a broken down motorcycle and decides to fix it up. August is more than happy to teach him how to ride it.

Notes:

The second part is here!! This was originally going to be the only fic but then as I was planning it out my brain came to me with Rudo driving a car and decided that I had to finish that one first. I'm kinda glad it happened like though.

It didn't come out quite as well as I wanted it to, but I still enjoyed writing it and I feel like that's all that really matters in the end c:

Work Text:

After days of begging, Enjin finally agreed to take Rudo to look for parts and items he could use. He would have just driven himself, but because of recent encounters with the Raiders, Semiu wasn't letting him go anywhere alone. The drive was shorter than usual with Enjin's driving, and they were soon by a large trash pile, where Rudo started excitedly looking through everything to find something usable.

"Jeez Rudo, you act like we never take you to look for things," Enjin spoke as he lit a cigarette. Rudo just rolled his eyes and continued rummaging through the pile of trash. After a while, he found something interesting that looked to be mostly intact. It looked like the bicycles they had up on the sphere, but bulkier, and with a bunch of extra parts.

Noticing Rudo stopped moving around, Enjin came to see what he had found, "Hey, nice find! I'm surprised it's not more banged up."

"What is it?" Rudo asked as he moved the object around, inspecting it.

"It's a motorcycle, you don't have them up on the sphere?" Seeing Rudo shake his head, Enjin went on to explain, "It's like if you took the car but put it on two wheels instead of four, like a bicycle. August has one, remember? It's a different model than this one though."

Rudo kept looking at it for a while, before deciding that he was going to take it back and see if he could fix it up a bit. Enjin kept pestering him about it, asking what he was even going to do with it once he was done. Rudo just ignored him.

From that point on, Rudo always looked for parts that looked as if they might work with the motorcycle. It was a struggle at first, seeing as though there weren't any motorcycles on the sphere he could think back on, and he didn't want to mess with August's motorcycle in case he accidentally broke something.

Eventually, August found Rudo working on the motorcycle one day, and after a very loud conversation, he started teaching Rudo more about motorcycles. How to repair them, what parts would work with the type of motorcycle he found, anything Rudo wanted to know, August taught him. It became a bit of a routine; Rudo would come back from a mission or scavenging, rest for a bit, then go down to the garage to work on the motorcycle with August.

A few weeks of searching for parts later and the motorcycle was finally all fixed up and finished. The next day, during one of Remlin's visits, Rudo had nervously asked them if they could paint its panels; Remlin was more than happy to do so and the two of them started brainstorming. Rudo missed the sunsets and night sky on the sphere, so with a lot of describing from Rudo, Remlin began painting. From front to back, the paint started around the front light, acting as if it was the sun, it was painted to look like daytime. As it moved to the back, it was painted to look like a sunset, and at the very end it was painted to look like night-time with stars and the moon.

When August saw that Rudo was done fixing the motorcycle, he excitedly started teaching him how to ride it. Rudo found it a fair bit more difficult than learning to drive a car, but, just like with the car, he was a fast learner and he soon got used to it. Once he was comfortable enough, August dragged him along and insisted that they go on a ride together, stating that none of the other cleaners, except for Eisha, would go on rides with him. In the end, Rudo reluctantly agreed.

"Hey Semiu! I'm going for a ride with Rudo if that's cool?" August yelled out as he walked past the front desk.

"Sure, just don't let the kid drive, he drives even worse than Enji- August, why do you have your motorcycle keys?" Semiu interrupted herself when she noticed August had his motorcycle keys in hand instead of one of the car keys.

August stopped to look at Semiu before speaking again, way louder than needed, "I just told ya! I'm going for a ride with Rudo!"

"I know that, but with your motorcycle? Does Rudo even know how to sit as a passenger on one?"

August smiled, "We're not going with just my motorcycle; Rudo's going to be riding his own one and following behind me! Anyway, be back soon!" He walked off before Semiu could get another word in. Shocked and confused, she called Enjin on her choker to tell him what was going on.

Enjin, much to his dismay, ran into the garage just a moment too late, only able to watch as August and Rudo rode off. He stared for a moment, stunned and slightly horrified, before muttering to himself, "Is this what it was like for the others when Rudo drove the car for the first time? I'm going to start apologising... Maybe with some gift baskets too..."

Notes:

What do we think of Rudo on a motorcycle? I think it suits him.
Would this actually happen? Probably not. Do I care? No, not really, I just like the idea of Rudo riding around on a motorcycle.

Also I tried to find some pictures of what the motorcycle might look like with how I described it and these were the closest I could find. The first one is unfortunately an AI demo but it's the closest to how Rudo's motorcycle would look at the back, the front is just a typical sunset ombré.
