This first chapter is gonna be in first person cus I couldn't figure out how to write it in third person, but the rest of the chapters will most likely be in third person.

Chapter Text

When I opened my eyes, I almost immediately regretted it. Whatever room I was in, it was bright as hell.

"Eye movement detected." A voice said. It sounded... British? The fuck is that about.

When my eyes finally focused, there was this weird robot reaching for me with its creepy little claws. I got so startled I screamed and rolled off the bed. I was in some sort of sleeping bag for some reason.. And my beard and hair was longer than they've ever been.

I desperately wiggled around on the floor before the robot dragged me back.

"Please get back on the medical bed." The British voice said again. I attempted to say no but only babbles came out. How long have I been asleep?

After I finally got the ability to stand again, I ran right for the very obvious hatch on the roof of this mysterious room. Seriously, what was this? I was obviously in a coma, does that mean I have some kind of horrible disease? Am I in quarantine?

Once I reached the hatch, I turned the big wheel. Nothing happened.

"Please state your name to open the door."

My name? Easy. It's......

Oh. I can't remember my name. I can't remember anything.

Alright let's calm down for a second. My name... I can just guess! That could work. I'm sure my name isn't that niche..

"Mark." I said, my voice still hoarse. Probably from the tubes being down my throat for God knows how long.

The voice paused for a moment.

"Incorrect." The British mechanical voice said. Damn. What other common names are there? Ryan..? No... I don't seem like a Ryan..

I eventually give up the guessing game and decide that it would be better worth my time to start brainstorming the things that I CAN remember on a whiteboard that was very conveniently placed inside of the quarantine room.

"So.. why am I here..? Where even is here?" I mumble to myself, praying my brain would do its job and tell me information that I need.

_____________

"You're taking me out of jail to.. help you build a spaceship..?" I asked the mysterious woman in front of me. She had a scar over her left eye, pretty metal.

"Yes." She said flatly. "Can you do it?"

"I mean.. I guess? I haven't done any engineering in a while for obvious reasons, but I'm sure I could do it after a little bit of a refresher." I replied.

"Perfect, let's go." As soon as she said this, my handcuffs came off and I was pushed in her direction. Alright. Just let this random woman take me, that's great.

A bunch of men in suits escorted us to a black van, which totally isn't creepy or concerning. I'm fine. They opened the door for me though, which was nice.. I think. The car ride over to.. wherever we're going, was pretty quiet. Just this woman typing away on her computer rather aggressively.

"So uh.. what do I call you?" I asked hesitantly, I wasn't really sure if I was even supposed to make eye contact with her to be honest.

She looked up from her laptop and just stared at me. "Ava." She said before going back to typing.

"Right.. well I'm Simon." I said. I don't even know if I'll be associating with her after this, but it couldn't hurt to tell her my name I guess.

She didn't respond. Of course. She's probably too powerful and cool to acknowledge the words of a lowly peasant like me or whatever these pricks think.

_____________

Well. That's the name problem solved.

I slowly dragged myself back over to the hatch and tried to open it again.

"Please state your name to open the door." The Brit says again. "Simon!" I slur. The hatch opens.

I hastily crawl through the hatch into a... lab? Okay where the hell am I. That Ava mentioned me building a spaceship or something? I'm an engineer I guess, that might be useful.

I stumble around the lab, trying my best not to run into any walls or break any of the equipment, I'm still not used to walking just yet. I probably look like a dog after it's eaten a joint off the sidewalk.

Eventually I stumble into a room full of plants. I immediately rushed over to them, they're all growing healthy.. Wait, why do I care? Do I like plants or something? Am I also a botanist?

After I'm done fussing over the plants, I look over to my left to see a window. A window that leads to.. space. Great.

I let out a laugh. Seriously what's going on? Was I so sick that the people on Earth sent me into space?

I pause. Oh shit. I'm on the spaceship that that woman wanted me to help her build. Oh.

But why? Why am I alone?

I rush back to the quarantine area to see two other beds. Oh thank god, people.

I climb the ladder on the wall and take the blanket off of the first person. I almost throw up by what I see.

It's a man, or, it WAS a man. He's clearly been long dead. He's practically just bones now.. I've been in here with a dead body for who knows how long.

I climb further up the ladder, and pull the blanket off the third person. It was a woman, who was also very clearly dead. She had been dead for less time than the man, she was a lot less decomposed. It was still hard to look at. I've been in here with two dead bodies for possibly years.

I'm alone.
