Current Worry: Now that he's in high school, people are going to start pestering him again about how to read the kanji character for his first name.

The kanji character for his first name means firefly and can be read as either Hotaru or Kei.
He has the third-smallest appetite after Satori Tendō and Kenma Kozume, often making his teammates and upperclassmen worry for his health. Like Kozume and Tendō, he states that he has a normal appetite and others simply eat more than normal.
His BMI (body mass index) is the lowest of the male characters in the series.
He has a habit of fiddling with his fingers when he feels nervous.
He is usually seen with his white Sony (Somy in anime to avoid trademark concerns) headphones around his neck whenever he's not practicing or playing.

Worst Subject: Since he's in Class 4 with Tsukishima, he is speculated to be smart since Classes 4 and 5 are college-preparatory classes in Karasuno, but he is terrible at English.
He is the second youngest first-year on the team after Kageyama.
His original reason for joining a sports club was so he could grow stronger. He chose volleyball specifically because the other sports clubs had "scary-looking guys." He had first thought of joining baseball or soccer/football.
He is the only first-year player to not be a regular on the volleyball team.
Of the first-years, he is the only one who did not join a professional team after graduating.
He possibly does not like it when first-years from other schools address Tsukishima as Tsukki. He does not appear bothered by upperclassmen of other schools using the nickname, possibly out of respect for them being older and some more familiar with Tsukishima than other first-years.

She used to get cuts and bruises on her legs from running into hurdles. To hide them, she would wear black tights. Even after retiring from track, she continues to wear them out of habit. Post-timeskip, she no longer wears leggings as she has accepted the scars she received.
She owned a pet bird, but it is unknown if she still has it. Yet in the final chapter of the main series, she is shown to own a new bird.
When included with the other third-years, she is the youngest third-year on the team and is five days younger than Azumane.
Her first name, Kiyoko, can be read as "pure/righteous/virtuous child".

Tōru Oikawa:

Aoba Johsai/Seijoh/Blue Castle Private High School: Class 3-5.
Position: Volleyball Club Captain - Setter.
Height: Six foot one inch (6'1").

Birthday: July twenty/ieth (20).

Current Worry: When he went and said hi to Karasuno's cute manager, he was utterly ignored. "Surely she was just shy. It's no big deal, really. Doesn't bug me at all. Nope. Nuh-uh..." he said to himself.
Post-Timeskip Worry: He is mistaken as a minor.
In his free time, he accompanies and helps his nephew and other children at Lil' Tykes Volleyball Classroom.
He had a girlfriend who broke up with him.

He is the second oldest third-year on the team after Iwaizumi.
He and Iwaizumi part ways after high school. They finally get the chance to fulfill their promise at the 2021 Olympics, with Iwaizumi being the athletic trainer for Japan and Oikawa as the Argentina national team. It is implied that they are both still in contact.
He had planned to go overseas as early as the Spring Tournament Qualifiers.
He appears to speak fluent English.

Yū Nishinoya:

He claims that he thought the name "Ace" sounded cool compared to other position names. But he also said that something the crowd likes even better than a good spike is an awesome save.
He was suspended from school for a week and was suspended from club activities for a month due to getting in a fight with Azumane and knocking down the Vice Principal's plant.
He said that he came to Karasuno because of the uniforms (the girls' are cute and the boys' black uniforms look super cool) and the short distance between the school and his home.
The only type of movie he will watch is over-the-top action, where he usually yells in excitement in the middle of the film.
He attended Chidoriyama Junior High/Middle School.
He is seen with completely black hair in Chikara Ennoshita's first year, meaning Nishinoya dyed his hair sometime after that year's summer vacation. Yet in the manga, he is seen as a young child with his signature blonde streak. Whether his streak is natural or dyed is unknown.
He is the second oldest second-year on the team after Kazuhito Narita.
He is the third-biggest eater after Sawamura and Yasushi Kamasaki.
As a child, he 'was a huge scaredy-cat' who was 'scared of bugs, scared of dogs, scared of birds', and so on.
He hates onions and moths.
He fights with players from other schools if they flirt with Shimizu because he likes her.
When he gets excited, he has a habit of placing his hands on the shoulders of the nearest person and uses this to stabilize himself as he jumps up and down in the air, kicking his feet up so it almost looks as if he's attempting to do a handstand in midair.
Many times during a match when someone in the crowd compliments him, he always points out a mistake he made.

Asahi Azumane:

The team captain is really scary when he's mad too... and so on."
People fighting (or the idea of it) seems to frighten him.
There are many rumors going around about him, mainly due to his physical appearance, including: he is the leader of a gang, he deals illegal substances such as drugs, and he's been in high school for five years.

He is shy around others except for Hinata, Inuoka, and Kuroo.

He has the smallest appetite although he claims that he eats normally and everyone else simply overeats.
He dyed his hair blond to not "stand out" because Yamamoto had previously said that his hair looked like Sadako (the girl in The Ring horror movie), which would draw attention from people. He also keeps his hair long because he gets anxious when his field of vision is too wide.
He is the second oldest second-year on the team after Shōhei Fukunaga.
He neither likes nor hates volleyball. He just hates getting tired.
Up till middle school, he would easily get sick after practice days or matches.
His nerves are always on edge because he doesn't want to be noticed.
He considered quitting volleyball when he was a first-year because he was constantly targeted and received harsh treatment by his seniors, but Kuroo talked him out of it.
His username on his games is "applepi".
The blue console he can be seen holding is a PlayStation Portable; however, the brand name of the console is called POP.
His online game name is "Kenken".

Tetsurō Kuroo:
"You're way too serious sometimes. Relax. Nobody's grading you on being perfect."

Nekoma High/Metropolitan Nekoma Public High School: Class 3-5.
Position: Volleyball Club Captain - Middle Blocker.
Height: Six foot two inches (6'2").
Weight: One hundred sixty-six pounds (166 lbs.) (As of April, third year of high school).
Birthday: November seventeen/th (17).
Zodiac/Star Sign: Scorpio.
Favorite Food: Salt-grilled pike/pacific saury (Sanma no Shioyaki).
Current Worry: He can't seem to get rid of his bed-head hair.
His hair sticks up like that because it's his natural bedhead. This happens because he sleeps on his stomach while pressing two pillows onto both his ears and his hair.
It has been theorized that he could be ambidextrous as he has been shown spiking with both hands in the manga. However, Furudate has stated right-handed players were occasionally drawn spiking with their left hand due to drawing while half-asleep.
He and Bokuto were shown to have switched hairstyles during the training camp.
He is the youngest third-year on the team.
He knows the full term for DHA (docosahexaenoic acid).
Until Haiba's introduction, he was the tallest member of the team. He is possibly annoyed that Haiba is taller than him, although it is not clear if his annoyance is genuine or a more playful form of envy.
His online gaming name is "Crow". Part of his game strategy is to pose as a woman to get male players to gift him items of interest.

Hajime Iwaizumi:

Aoba Johsai/Seijoh/Blue Castle Private High School: Class 3-5.
Position: Volleyball Club Vice Captain; Ace - Wing Spiker.
Height: Five foot eleven inches (5'11").
Weight: One hundred fifty-five pounds (155 lbs.) (As of April, third year of high school).
Birthday: June ten/th (10).
Zodiac/Star Sign: Gemini.
Favorite Food: Deep-fried tofu (Agedashi Tōfu).
Current Worry: "Just one centimeter more... or seven millimeters, at least...!" (In regard to his height).
He is the oldest third-year and member on the team.
He is very athletic as he has beat Kyōtani in several events such as running, batting, and arm-wrestling. He is the current arm-wrestling champion of Aoba Johsai.
He is one of the few characters whose color palette varies in the manga to anime. In the manga, his hair is black and his eyes are dark brown, but in the anime, his hair is dark brown, and his eyes are green.
His skills have been commended by Karasuno's players and coaches, and his total stats add up to the same total as Wakatoshi Ushijima, one of the top three aces in Japan.
While he is taller than average, he's the shortest of the Seijoh third-years and appears to find frustration in this. His goal is to grow to one hundred eighty-five centimeters (185 cm.) so he'll be taller than Oikawa (who responds that he will push on Iwaizumi's pressure points so he can't grow taller than him). In the end, Oikawa is the one who surpasses one hundred eighty-five centimeters (185 cm.) while Iwaizumi never reaches one hundred eighty centimeters (180 cm.).
He used to capture cicadas during childhood, but he always let them go afterward (when asked, he said cicadas had a short lifespan, so he took pity on them).
When he was younger, he can be seen wearing clothing that has the monster Godzilla.

His family name/surname (last name), Iwaizumi, can be read as "rock spring/fountain".
Hitoka Yachi:
"Y-You always seem so confident... It's kind of inspiring, actually."

Position: Volleyball Club Manager.

Current Worry: What on Earth will she do if she ever finds herself in a life-threatening situation?
Best Subject: None in particular, but her English grades are far better than Hinata and Kageyama's as she is in an advanced class. She is tasked to help Kageyama and Hinata to get ninty points in their supplementary exams in one go.
She is the second oldest first-year on the team after Hinata.
Her first name, Hitoka, can be read as "compassion flower".

Lev Haiba:
"You think I'm annoying? Wow. That's kind of rude..."

Nekoma High/Metropolitan Nekoma Public High School: Class 1-3.
Position: Middle Blocker.
Height: Six foot four inches (6'4").
Weight: One hundred seventy-six pounds (176 lbs.) (As of April, first year of high school).
Birthday: October thirty/ieth (30).
Zodiac/Star Sign: Scorpio.
Favorite Food: Sushi (Oinarisan).
Current Worry: His upperclassmen keep trying to give him funny/weird nicknames.
Although he is of Russian-Japanese descent, he cannot speak any Russian as he was born and raised in Japan.
Just like Kozume, he doesn't like Kuroo's pre-match speeches and famous quote: "We're like the blood in our veins...", and according to Kozume, that's the only thing he agrees with Haiba on.
He is the oldest first-year on the team and is two days older than Inuoka.
He had stated that he grew two millimeters in two weeks, which averages out to one millimeter per week.
He (pre-timeskip) is the third tallest high school volleyball player.
He has a tendency to self-destruct if he becomes too fired up.
Although he was still relatively new to volleyball at the time, he was able to fully block Hinata's quick attack on his second attempt, making him the quickest to stop the attack.

His family name/surname (last name), Haiba, can be read as "ashen feathers".
Kōtarō Bokuto:

Fukurōdani Academy Private High School: Class 3-1.
Position: Volleyball Club Captain; Ace - Wing Spiker.

He has smaller hands than Keiji Akaashi because the latter has long fingers.

He is the third oldest third-year on the team after Tatsuki Washio and Yamato Sarukui.

According to Akaashi, Bokuto has at least thirty-seven weaknesses.
