Chapter 1: The Boat "Lost" at Sea

Chapter Text

Underneath the starry sky, there is an occupied, but quiet boat lost at sea. Alex, a brunette man with heterochromia (his left eye is blue, while his right is green), and a round face, can’t sleep at all. They get out of bed and light a candle.

Alex heads out to the main deck carefully, hoping he doesn’t wake anyone. He blows out his candle and looks up at the night sky. He spots the moon in the middle of the sky and admires it.

Alex suddenly hears a voice beside him. “The moon is beautiful tonight, isn’t it, Alex,” the voice expressed. Alex, startled, looked beside himself. Adrian, a little taller than Alex, a brunette man, with brown eyes, and peach skin, stood there, looking up.

“Wha- How,” Alex stuttered, “how did you get on without anyone noticing and attacking you?”

“Magic,” Adrian teased with a smirk, "one of your night guards fell asleep.” Alex rolled his eyes and went back to looking at the moon.

After a couple seconds of silence, they finally spoke. “What do you want? Also, why are you here,” Alex questioned.

“I’m bored, and I can’t sleep. Is that why you’re up, too,” Adrian asked.

Alex gave a look to the younger man and started walking back to his room.

“I’m not telling you shit. Go home… before I wake up the whole crew and send them after you,” Alex demanded.

“Alright, alright, good night,” Adrian lamented jokingly. “I’ll be back tomorrow, just you wait and see,” he muttered under his breath.

Alex noticed that he said something but couldn’t care less.

As he climbed into bed, a thought crossed his mind; “what did he mean by, ‘The moon is beautiful tonight?’” Usually, he wouldn’t care at all about something Adrian has said — but this seemed to stick with him. “There HAS to be a meaning to this, right,” he asked himself.

Alex found a book in his bookshelf, one that he never actually had read before. It’s about secret meanings. He opens it and goes through half the book until he finds it. The book read; “In Japanese culture, this phrase is a way to express affection or romantic feelings indirectly.”

“No,” he denies, “he could’ve just been saying that to say it, right? No hidden meaning whatsoever, right? Right?”

Alex stays up the rest of the night, thinking about it.

When it was sunrise, Alex got dressed groggily and went onto the main deck. “Hey,” a black-haired boy exclaimed from across the deck, “you’re up early!”

“Oh, hey Flynn,” Alex chuckled, “Yea, I couldn’t sleep last night.” Alex runs across the deck to where Flynn is.

“Is anything on your mind,” Flynn asked, smirking.

Even though Flynn is his lifelong best friend and longest-lasting crew member, he did not want him to know about it. It would be a whole thing if he did (since he knows they have a crush on Adrian). So, he answers with, “Not anything in particular.”

Flynn gives him a concerned look and questions, "is it Adrian?"

Alex gives them a look and puts his hands on his face, "what the fuck, Flynn? How'd you know. Why do you know so much about me that you can just tell by the look on my face."

"Because we've known each other for five years. Plus, you have this look on your face whenever you're thinking of your crush." Flynn acknowledged.

Alex exclaims, "Do I really?"

"Yes, you do. So, tell me what's up," Flynn pleaded

Alex looks around for a second, seeing every crew member around them on the deck, "Can we go somewhere a more private, or wait for later. I don't want everyone to know that I have a crush on the crew's sworn enemy."

Flynn nods, "Yea, let's wait for dusk, then we'll meet in your room?"

Alex nods.

A few hours pass, and Alex is scolding some of his crew because they put the boxes in the wrong room on the ship.

"No. They're boxes of FOOD, not DRINKS. It says FOOD right on the side here," Alex lectures, pointing to the word on the side of the box.

After he was done with that, he went to the front of the ship on the deck just for the sole purpose of looking out into the ocean. It was now around nine in the morning, and he has not let that sentence leave his mind. "Did he really mean it like that, or was he just messing with me," he questioned in his head.

Suddenly, he saw something in the distance.

Adrian's boat.

As he was going to ring the bell to warn everyone, someone had already got to it first. But that didn't matter, the only thing that mattered to him right now is to not show weakness to his crush enemy.

A short, curly blonde haired crew member asked Alex, "what do we do, Captain?"

Alex thought for a second, "protect yourselves and stay behind me. I'm going to do the talking, like I always do."

"But what do we protect ourselves with, Captain," the same crew member asks.

"I don't know, get something," he says, annoyed.

"Alright," she says, walking away to tell the others what to do.

Adrian's boat approaches, and he puts the boardwalk down onto the side of Alex's boat.

"What do you want today, Adrian," Alex asks, annoyed.

"To bother you, just like any other day," Adrian responds, as he's walking down the board walk, eventually ending up two feet away in front of Alex.

Adrian gives him this annoyed, but tired look as Adrian walks towards him.

"Tired," Adrian teases, "stayed up thinking about me?"

Alex's eyes widen and his cheeks turn pink, "wha- no?" Which was obviously a lie.

Adrian gives Alex this little smirk like he knows, but then acts disappointed, "Aww man."

"Shut up before I punch you," Alex exclaims.

One by one, Alex's crew starts to go run and hide, scared for their lives. Not long after, Adrian's crew did too.

Alex and Adrian look around, noticing there's no one else on the deck besides them two.

"Now that we're alone," Alex starts, "what was that last night? what did you mean by that sentence?"

Adrian acts confused. "What do you mean," he asks as he steps a couple steps towards Alex, so he's a few inches in front of them.

Alex blushes. His face red from the closing distance between the two. Adrian still has a smirk on his face. He knows what he's doing.

Notes:

Hey guys so I just started this story, and I might not keep up with this on a weekly basis. AKA, I have NO IDEA how long it's going to take for me to finish any of this honestly.

Also, I have already chosen their fate (I love making star-crossed lovers).
