“We’re almost there!” Kaelix spoke with his earnest grin on his face, leading you past all the empty dirt paths, with greenery being surrounded by it. Upon reaching your destination, you couldn’t help but look in awe at how magnificent this place was.
For starters, you and Kaelix have been friends for a LONG time and have been in a relationship for about a year, spending your days together to celebrate your 1st year anniversary. Though after pushing through the days of being unable to schedule a date on the exact date of your newly founded love, you both managed to plan things out and do it just about a week later, which to you was enough to avoid any sort of casualties between both your and his jobs. Things couldn’t get any worse when you realised just how busy the two of you have been. Oh well, all this work leads up to this very special day.
What’s crazy about this date is the fact that you had completely no say in preparations, minus the fact that Kaelix mentioned it being a picnic date, and that was pretty much it. Surprisingly enough, Kaelix had planned this himself for once, which was crazy to you since you’d mostly do all the planning yourself. Things just got even more intriguing for you, so you followed along with his plans regardless, for the fun of it. All you had to do was prepare the food and beverages for this particular day and enjoy what he has to offer.
And boy, was he just getting started when you witnessed a completely open field of various flowers being presented to you. You swear you felt like this was CGI for a moment, and suddenly became an actor, doing their job behind a greenscreen to make a movie for your ongoing contract collaboration with a well-known company. To your surprise, it was completely real, which left your jaw dropped for a while. Kaelix looked at your stunned expression for a moment before finally breaking the silence that wasn’t supposed to happen in his book. “Tada! One special date planned exactly for our anniversary, in the flesh. Tell me, please. Do you like it so far?” He asked out of curiosity for your answer, leaving you on the spot for a while. No matter, he would already know what you’d have to say anyway. “It's wonderful, Kaelix. Seriously, like, all of this? For us?” you continued, directing back to him on his anonymous planning. “Well, not exactly permanently for OBVIOUS reasons. But we’ve got the whole fields to ourselves for the day. That should be plenty of time, right?”
“Plenty, yes.” You answered honestly with that grin on your own face that never once exactly faded, even when you were left shocked not too long ago. Both of you giggled to one another like high school sweethearts, taking in the view just nicely. “Say, how about we find a spot to set up? Don’t you worry, I’ll let you pick exactly where this time.” Kaelix added, of course, he’d let you do that. All that questioning from a few weeks ago about barely doing anything does somehow push Kaelix to the point that he couldn’t exactly do everything on his own completely. So, of course, you couldn’t waste such an opportunity for letting you do what you needed to do. Once more, the two of you set off to find a place to set up, a perfect one in fact in your eyes. A tiny hill just barely noticeable with a few weeds surrounding the area, just about two steps away from the fields and flat enough to comfortably sit on without any big bulges of dirt poking out either.
Setting up the picnic wasn’t all that difficult, given how often the two of you have them. It wasn’t uncommon for the people you both knew to coincidentally find the two of you with homemade lunch in hand while mindlessly talking about just about anything to each other. It felt too good to be true to see two attractive people talking to one another about their day without strangers passing by them, wondering if they were interrupting them sometimes. This time, however, since it's just the two of you, you’ll be there for way longer than necessary. Surely, Kaelix’s got that covered; you didn’t have to worry one bit.
You and Kaelix took it easy after all of that, Kaelix still somewhat insisting on pulling out the contents inside the basket while he hands the items over to you, while arranged them neatly around the blanket. You couldn’t help but ask again about what he was hiding, but he only mentioned it was a surprise for later. His words, but the whole time you were having lunch, you just couldn’t get your mind off it. And Kaelix, being the partner who notices lots of details on the whim, just had to distract you from it with small talk. Which you eventually fell for that trick. Of course. Silly you, but can you really blame yourself for how entertaining and fun it is to interact with your lover?
Then, the ice breaker came in. “Oh! And to top it all off, for this wonderful day we're having...” he dragged on, finally addressing the elephant in the room type beat. You were in for a whole lot of surprises for the day, and of course, being the sweetheart you are, you’ve got to go along with it to make him happy. “Yeah?” you answered and let him continue. He snakes his hand into the picnic basket like how zerpents coil around a certain bartender's arm, pretending to dig through it as if another secret storage with endless items in it to keep you on edge. You were practically on edge anyway, AND he was pushing it to the limit.
You quickly got back to your senses, only to find that your wonderful boyfriend had already pulled the secret out... “ジャジャーン (Jajaan)! A bouquet of your favourite flowers! Freshly picked by yours truly, me.” He proudly announced with his never-ending efforts to make this date memorable. And he wasn’t kidding, alright. A fresh bouquet neatly tied with a cute ribbon on a floral handle with all your favourite flowers, including the ones that Kaelix liked too. Obviously, you had to commit to the bit and acted completely shocked for it, but also in reality, you were thinking about all kinds of stunts he’ll pull later on. You realised what he said, so of course curiosity got the better of you and asked, “They're beautiful, Kaelix. But, what the hell do you mean by freshly picked exactly?”
“Oh, that? I uh picked some flowers from these exact fields while I was renting out the whole day. AND, before you say anything, I got permission from the locals with enough convincing. It had to be done for this day.” He mentioned shyly with his hand nervously resting behind his neck. You looked at him for a moment with that unamused expression you always did when you didn't want to argue but leave a neutral response to his shenanigans. Besides, you kind of had an inkling of how he did it, so you brushed it past you. Of course, he didn’t stop there.
He really locked in this time when he made his move again, reaching his hand and picking out a specific white rose without many thorns. He holds it in his hand for a moment while his other hand reaches over to you to tuck your hair behind your ear, only to then put that rose on your tucked ear perfectly. His eyes softening in that moment with a smile that never seems to fade, himself as he gently caressed your cheek carefully just before uttering another word;
“It suits you, starlight.”
You swear, right after he said that, your face instantly flushed red, and even steam came out of your head. Your thoughts were all jumbled up in that moment, and you even covered your face with your hands. You don’t dare to utter any word about how attractive he was when he performed such a stunt to you, which is quite rare in your case, since you’d be doing the teasing. And boy, the reaction you gave him instantly made him start laughing way too hard.
Of course, you quickly got back to your senses after hearing just how loud he was ijboling, even with a face as red as a tomato and tried your very best to shove his stupid face away from even looking at your embarrassed expression. But alas, he still had that cheeky grin you wish you could wipe it off his face with the grass at this point. “Okay, okay, too romantic, I know. Maybe I shouldn’t do these kinds of tricks to spare you-”
“NO. Don’t.” You cut him off instantly when he tries to back down from his words. “Kaelix, you just...” You paused for yourself, trying your very best to get back to lock in and find your wording. “...took me by surprise, that’s all. That was... so NOT you for a moment there.” You continued on, face slowly returning to normal, but still, that faint blush lingered just because. “I know. This isn’t something I would normally do, so” he took another big breath before continuing “, cut me some slack, will you?” He asked for approval while also finally getting that payback of a reaction after constantly being teased, which you weren’t expecting, so you gave him a pass for now for this day ONLY since it was your anniversary and everything, you know? Kaelix wins today...
“Oh, I will. Once we finally take a ton of photos of this spectacular view,” you added while abruptly standing excitedly. The view and picnic may be nice, but the scenery around you cannot be taken lightly, so of course, you just have to take this chance and create as many memories as you can. “I was just thinking about that, actually.” He answered, showing just as much excitement as you are. “BUT,” He continued whilst halting your further movements with the stop hand gesture. “we’ve got to clean up first, my dear. It is too much of a mess around here.”
“Right, yes...” You take into account to his words, eying him for a bit before reluctantly going forth with his suggestion. You both packed up most of your belongings, minus the untouched blanket that will be used once the two of you are done for the whole date, which won’t be anytime soon, either. Thinking back on what he said with a pet name also caught you off guard once again. This guy... pulling all sorts of strings, he isn’t able to do so effortlessly. Like seriously, who is this guy and what happened to your awesome, wonderful, whiny boyfriend that you’ve known longer than your own current relationship???
Again, that also didn’t really take long as you two got ready to do all sorts of things with your little antique camera in your hands. You couldn’t help but take a few photos of your own for the time being while Kaelix stayed behind for some unknown reason. You knew he was plotting again, but knowing how today has been going, you couldn’t quite put your finger on what exactly he was thinking. However, being too curious would kill the surprise again; so, like you always did before, you had to play it cool and let him do whatever he needed to do.
Meanwhile, with Kaelix, he did tell you beforehand to go ahead without him for a while as he sat at the picnic spot, admiring how passionate you were taking pictures, ranging from the field of flowers to the sky. Even the little sprouts of weeds were taken into account. That camera is your prized possession after all, he couldn’t exactly say no to you bringing it around with you all the time.
Watching from afar, he couldn't help but reach over to the basket again for something, something special to him, while his gaze still lingered on your curious self that was completely oblivious to what he had to offer later on. His hand caught onto it and slowly pulled it out, letting it sit on the palm of his hand. It was far from any bigger than his own palm. A small box resting comfortably. His other hand reached for the lid and slowly but surely opened it to see the contents of it inside, taking a little peek at it.
He smiled oh so brightly again, radiating excitement even for people from afar to know the nerves he was also getting. All this effort he was putting leads up to this exact item, for a moment that will come sooner than ever. He couldn’t help but shed a tear for it. I mean, who wouldn’t? Knowing you even before getting together is one thing, but committing to the relationship the two of you have now is another. And he plans to take it a step even further than before.
All that nervousness in him really got him into another dimension that you even had to call him as loud as you could so that he could possibly hear you. And once he did, boy, was he completely startled like a frightened puppy. So cute...
“Kaelix! You coming?? I NEED you for most of these ideas I’m getting.” You shouted out to him. He kind of already knew that when you called for him, it seemed that you definitely needed him for most of your creative ideas for pictures. “Y-Yeah, I’m coming!” He nervously replied as he scrambled onto his feet and quickly shoved that damn box into his pockets at last. His face was already red from almost getting caught, but somehow, you didn’t see much of what he was doing since you were far enough from the picnic spot. Oh well, you shrugged it off once more and continued taking the last few photos before Kaelix hurried off to your side.
“Close call... I hope they didn’t see most of that.” Kaelix thought to himself before letting out a breath he wasn’t expecting to hold for so long. Or maybe he did because... well...
He does plan to propose once you’ve accomplished everything that you could do. And he’ll continue to fulfil your wishes before getting to that final moment where he does.
“Yo, what took you so long?” You asked the white-haired boy who was already sweating bullets from such a short distance walk.
“Nothing in particular. I just... got distracted, is all.” He laughed it off with an arm around your shoulder. You sighed at his weird actions and played it off as his usual Samoyed behaviour before letting him know what he needed to do for you. Silly guy with his silly puppy stuff. You still love him regardless.
