Chapter Text
The fight was over before it could really start.
But was this really a war? Sakura thought as he glanced around.
Everywhere around town, there were teens tending to each other, both Furin’s side and Su- Sun Fei’speople picking each other off the ground. Makochi storeowners bustling around and communicating through semblance of charades with the local storeowners.
Sakura thought Endo crazy for suggesting that the Makochi townspeople come with, this was a fight! But it wasn’t. Unlike the last war, Endo swarmed Bankoku-gai not to start chaos, but for his massive groups of followers to form a stone wall so that Makochi had a path to reach the ruling powers of the town.
To the elders.
To Suo.
Umemiya was quick to start negotiations, lest the townspeople thought they were being raided. “Our town doesn’t have much, but what we do have is plenty of food! Food and supplies! If you need a trading partner, why not start with Makochi? Our townspeople here have volunteered to show you our stock, what do you say?”
Kiryuu had the time to joke that the elders’ reactions rivaled Hiiragi’s when he’s going to rip Umemiya a new one. Right before Suo stepped up. Suo in such a regal changshan, exuding an aura in Sakura’s eyes that rivaled Umemiya’s.
Suo, his alpha, sandwiched by two taller beta and alpha duo. Suo, who was shoo-ed by the pair so only they and the elders would talk to Umemiya and his kings. Suo, who was approached by his “brothers” afterwards to be told he’s free to re-attend high school and join Furin’s pack.
Suo who was too busy comforting a clinging Nirei.
(“Suo-sa- Sense- Sun Fei-saaaaan!”
“Now, now, Nire-kun, where’s that ‘I’ve grown up’ energy a while ago? Can’t have my eldest apprentice crying like a pup in front of his juniors.”
“Maa maa, Suo-chan, just let our beta be and scent him, hmm?”)
Suo who hasn’t once looked at Sakura since it all started.
So Sakura scampered off. If only he turned back to see a single red eye track his every movement.
-
I get it, Sakura thought bitterly, yet curious eyes wandered to the shops he walked by. As much as he wanted to celebrate with the others, he couldn’t handle the tension between him and Suo. So without anyone’s notice, he ran off. Different shapes greeted him, languages he can’t hope to understand. This is…his home. He just wanted to protect them…
Knowing that doesn’t stop the painful churning in his gut.
Alpha left us, hurt us, ignored us! He choose them over us! Sakura’s omega growled. Alpha… didn’t choose us.
“Arghh, stop it! Shut up!!” Sakura shouted. Those nearby jolted as Sakura pulled his hair in frustration. “It doesn’t matter! Suo.. Sun Fei… if this goes well, he can go back to Makochi… they can be a pack again.. so it doesn’t matter.”
Dual colored eyes sadly glanced up to see the silhoutte of the moon starting to be visible beside the setting sun.
It doesn’t matter…
-
“I’ll do anything, just… I want to help Suo. I don’t care why or his reasons for what he’s doing. If he needs help, I’ll do anything, so please, help me!”
“You’d still help him? Even after he beat you up and left you for dead? Aren’t you a bit too reckless, Sakura?”
”…please..”
“Hmmm…well… if you insist…
Then why don’t we make a deal~ I’ll give Furin the manpower to meet eyepatch again. If it fails and you lose eyepatch, then it’s a fail, I go home with my tail between my legs. No big deal for me. But if eyepatch gets to return to Makochi, well, then… you won’t mind if I pluck an omega as my prize for helping, won’t you?”
“!!”
“I mean, you don’t have to. Like I said, I’d do anything you ask, no strings attached~ I only said what I wanted cuz you asked, Sa~ku~ra-“
“…”
”So..? Do we have a deal?”
“…fine.”
-
He didn’t know how long he was gone. He continued to wander the town without any semblance of time except the slow lowering of the sun. His phone was lost during the scuffle near the the town’s edge, when he fell in the river. When he got out, his phone was missing. Sakura ignored the pain in his feet, continuing to trudge forward until he finally returned to where everyone was.
Everyone, except the one he wanted.
“Sakura-saaan!” Nirei called, running over to his captain. Sakura ignored him and continued to look around. Shishitoren, Furin, Endo, Takiishi, Roppo Ichiza. “There you are! We were about to look for you! Ah…are you looking for Sun- Suo-san?” Nirei waited until the omega looked at him to smile apologetically. “Suo-san told me to send his regards to you. The elders called him back to attend to some things. He already went back with Bacchus-san and Rakta-san. It’d take him at least two weeks before he can return to Makochi. So… we’ll see him again then, and you two can finally talk.” Nirei glanced at his phone. “I hope he returns to texting us sooner though…”
If the blond beta was only paying attention, he would’ve noticed that his friend wasn’t listening, his dual colored gaze locked onto cold emerald hues across the clearing.

Ten days later, one Friday night, while everyone was still tending to their own wounds, Sakura Haruka moved out of Makochi.
A single letter and a resignation slip sit atop the principal’s desk, only to be found come Monday morning.
