Chapter 1: Hang On

Chapter Text

Hang on to anything you can find. It could be a physical object, like a cliff that grazes your hands as you slip...

Or you could hang on to a feeling.

You could hang onto that feeling of community, where you are not just a singular person, but one part of a whole. You could hang on to the feeling of care for someone, when seeing them makes your smile grow brighter and the air feel lighter. Hang on to that feeling of loving someone, the way they make your heart skip a beat every time you see them, or when you look at them and think, "They are so beautiful." Hold on to the feeling of bravery every time you were faced with something scary, that you faced it. Hang on to the pride that wells in your chest every time someone complements you or you get awarded. Hang on to the love you feel from your friends and family, the warm hugs they give you, the time spent with them and you lose track of time.

Hang on to the sadness you've felt before, the tears you shed or the aching feeling of missing someone in your chest. Hang on to the grief of losing a friend or a loved one in your life you didn't think you would lose so soon. Hang on to the memories you made with the people who left and the lessons they taught you. Hang on to the people who stayed with you through thick and thin, the days you cried yourself to sleep and the days you ran around laughing. Hang on to all your memories, good and bad and what you've learned. Hang on to what school taught you, not the actual lessons but the hidden, more deep ones no one thinks about. Hang on to your creativity, when your hands get messy with paint or your pencil flies across the paper.

Hang on because you need to.

Hang on because without you some people won't have their best friend anymore. Hang on because you have the strength to get up. Hang on because you are needed by the people around you, whether they tell you or not. Hang on because you are needed in the world. Hang on because there was a 1 in 400 trillion chance that you specifically were born so there is a reason you are here. Hang on because you matter more than you think.

You blink and your back, hanging on the cliff, one hand digging into dirt, while the other dangles like the rest of your body. You slide down slightly, losing your grip. You yelp as you go, swinging your other hand up and onto the cliff, gripping onto the grass. You tug yourself up, your arms burn with the pain of lifting your body weight. You finally get onto the ledge and crawl off the ledge, getting onto solid ground. You breathe hard and stare into the sky.

You hung on.

You made it.

Authors note

If you're reading this then you should take it into consideration. You are going to be okay. I know, I know, everyone says that. But I'm not lying. You might not be okay now, you might not be okay for a while, but it will eventually get better. You just have to wait. I know it's hard, but I know you can do it. I believe in you. Keep trying your best lovelies you can get through this. I'm here to talk if you need, or if you just need a friend. You got this, don't give up.
