Chapter Text
as soon as he opened his eyes he was blinded by a bright light, causing him to close his eyes again. why was everything so bright anyway? totally unnecessary in his opinion. dark colors are way better looking.
"good, you're finally awake."
this made the boy flinch, someone was there with him? a man as it seems. the voice was rather deep but then again, you never know. without wasting another thought he sat up, now face to face with... an angel? where the hell was he?
"who are you? and why am i here? where am i?" he couldn't help but ask everything at once. the last thing he remembers was a pool party so why was he in a bright.. cloud? now that's even more confusing. just what happened after he drank just a little - or more than a little - to celebrate his graduation?
"calm down, soobin. you're somewhere between heaven and earth-" soobin stopped listening after that. heaven? did he die? how did he die? why did he die? was the party really that crazy?
the guy clapped his hands which got soobin out of his trance. "listen to me please, this is important," he said with a slight frown on his face but he couldn't really blame the younger. he would be just as confused if he just woke up in the middle of nowhere with a stranger telling him he's not at home anymore.
"as i was saying, you drowned-" before he could continue soobin interrupted him, "i what?! i'm dead?" the younger was panicking, never could he imagine that happening at his friends party of all places, did no one help him? or did nobody see him?
"calm down, kid. that was like a year ago. look, we didn't expect you to die that's why you were asleep for so long. you're actually supposed to be alive so i decided that you'll be going back to earth-" could he really do that?.. but why would he? there should be a dead version of him somewhere on earth. it would be odd to just go up to people who went to his funeral and be like 'hey, so i didn't actually die' he can't just do that! what was the angel man thinking?!
"i know what you're thinking and i'm sending you somewhere where nobody knows you, you have a mission anyway," the guy paused, checking if the younger was even listening and he was so he continued, "there's a lost soul out there and i need you to help them out. i don't need them dead yet, do you get that?"
soobin couldn't believe it. he had just found out that he's dead and now he's supposed to help someone else before they die? what's wrong with this guy? "no, why would i do that? i'm dead. i don't want to go back there." well, that's not fully true. he wants to go back and see his family and friends, very badly actually, but he can't just do that. especially not if he doesn't know how he died. and he isn't even allowed to see any of them anyways so why would he help someone out that could just die along with him? or well, later than him since a year passed already.
"soobin, i can't just bring back dead people who were supposed to die. your death was a real accident, theirs weren't. i really need your help, i'm counting on you," he paused and looked panicked?, "plus, i can tell you how you died if you really want to know." the man let out a sigh, he didn't want to tell the boy. he looked so innocent, it would ruin him. but it seemed like he had no other choice as soobin started nodding, not being able to wait anymore. he wanted to know what happened.
every. little. detail.
꧁꧂
soobin was now walking around a town he's never been to. he used to live in daegu but now he's in seoul. well, obviously. nobody knows him here - or at least shouldn't and the 'lost soul'-person is supposed to live here as well. he just hopes nobody knows. what if his death was in the news?
...
nevermind, that was a year ago. as if anyone outside of his close friends and family cares that much.
for some reason people are still staring at him, they seem concerned. soobin just shrugged it off. maybe he is just handsome? he knows he is. people never stared so much because of it though. maybe his clothes? no that couldn't be it, he was just wearing full on black. the angel person gave him some clothes and he asked for black ones. it had to be something else but-
his train of thoughts was interrupted by a middle aged woman who went up to him. "excuse me, are you okay?" she asked him, looking concerned and very confused. soobin frowned at this- why wouldn't he be? "yes, why are you asking?" "well because you have quite the big bruise there," she answered and pointed at his throat, finally making his confusion disappear. so that's why everyone was staring. he really had to check his body and get make up.
soobin just told her not to worry and began walking to the address angel man had given him- he decided that that's what he'd call him until he gets to know his real name.
anyways, so angel man gave him an address which was supposed to be the place he'd stay at. angel man also gave him a credit card to get clothes, food and other necessities. angel man had basically given him everything he needed to survive. the only thing he was missing was the name of the person he's supposed to help out. and that's like the most important thing.
"stupid idiot, sends me down here and doesn't even tell me about the condition of my body," he mumbled to himself while basically running towards his apartment, house or whatever it was.
the boy was too focused on worrying about getting there as quick as he can and didn't pay attention to where he was going and so he bumped into a much smaller person, accidentally knocking them over.
a small 'ouch' made soobin frown and look at the source of it and there he found a shorter boy, looking up at him with confused and big, beautiful brown eyes. soobin couldn't help but admire the boy but he quickly snapped out of it and glared at the shorter guy.
"i'm sorry," he said, still not changing his expression and helping the other up on his feet again. while doing so he heard a small 'it's okay' from the other who wasn't looking at him anymore, he seemed too scared to do so.
who could blame him? ever since soobin found out about the way he died that day he can't get himself to look at ease. he was glaring at everyone and everything in his sight.
the boy couldn't bear with it and quickly walked off again and soobin really couldn't be bothered so he just continued to speed walk towards the address.
꧁꧂
what did he just bump into? w h a t? possibly the most frightening looking person he's ever met. maybe second most frightening, after his upset parents that kicked him out. he just had to get away quickly before that guy gets angry at him and yells. oh, please don't make him yell.
wait.. did he just help? but he looked so angry? he still does. anyways, he needs to get away from scary guy quickly. and so he did, not missing scary guy actually apologising to him while he was helping him up but anyways.
"damn he was tall..," he mumbled to himself while continuing to walk. he couldn't really be bothered. he had multiple jobs to attend and one of his shifts is about to start so he really didn't have the time to bump into any more people.
you might be wondering who he is.
well he is kang taehyun, son of very successful business people but they didn't want him, as stated before. taehyun doesn't care anymore though... okay that's a lie. he does care. a lot to be quite frank. but there's nothing he can do about it. and he surely isn't going back, who knows what they would do to him?
"focus, taehyun," he mumbled, trying to stop himself from thinking about scary guy's glare that he just got thrown at himself. the height difference didn't really help, it just scared taehyun more.. and that bruise, ugh.
why can taehyun not get him out of his mind? he had way more important things to concentrate on, like his job that he just arrived at.
꧁꧂
it was now the next day, a monday to be specific which meant school for taehyun. the small boy didn't really care for it that much, he just wanted good grades to get a decent job so he can finally move out of his awful apartment.
it only had about three rooms. his bedroom which was also some sort of living room. there's barely any space to walk because of his bed and his closet but there is a tv inside. then there's his small kitchen and a bathroom that's about the same size as his bedroom, maybe a little bit smaller.
the space felt suffocating to him so he was glad that school finished late in the afternoon, that's less time at home, less time in his apartment.
after 30 minutes of walking, taehyun was finally at his school. it was huge and taehyun loved it so much more because of that, he even stayed longer to read at the library. he loved the library.
what he didn't love is the way his school mates treated him though. it isn't as bad as it sounds, they really just ignore him, but it still hurts, you know? he doesn't even know what he did to them for this to happen in the first place. good thing is, it's way more peaceful and quiet because of that so he can't really complain too much.
while making his way to his first class he bumped into someone, again. has he become a sort of magnet to people now? seriously-
"watch where you're going," a guy's voice interrupted his thoughts causing him to look up.
and there he was.
choi beomgyu, probably the most angelic looking person ever, looking down at taehyun - who fell onto his butt once again - with a smile on his face before he started walking away.
taehyun had to take a few seconds to realise he was still sitting on the ground because he had just bumped into his crush of one year. beomgyu had looked at him, the reason why was quickly forgotten by the younger. before wasting another second he got up and continued his journey to the classroom.
taehyun was the first person to get there, he was always the first person to be in the classroom but that's good because it gave him more time to think about what just happened.
the choi beomgyu had actually noticed him- well bumped into him and even talked to him. this was arguably the most memorable moment of his life, at least when he's not worrying about other things like right now. taehyun was a bit upset because the smile wasn't genuine but he could get over that. he wouldn't smile either if he just bumped into anyone other than beomgyu.
his fantasising about his crush sadly got interrupted by a bunch of his classmates walking in because class was about to start.
taehyun sighed, he hoped that class would go by quickly so he could rush to the library and continue reading the story he started. at least until he eventually had to leave for one of his jobs and work a shift that's probably way too long for someone his age.
꧁꧂
around 2 or 3 am he was finally back at his apartment, making himself some ramen because that was one of the only things he could get himself to cook since it wasn't too complicated of a task.
today was a very busy day at the restaurant, busier than normally so taehyun was exhausted. very exhausted. he couldn't even be bothered to take off his uniform, he just went home with it.
after his ramen was done he opened up a window, sat near it and looked out while eating. he always does this in the evening because he just likes the way the moon and the stars look.
they all had a place to stay and taehyun envied that. they all had what he wanted. the poor boy just wanted to feel needed in this world but it seemed like he wasn't, he felt lost.
his parents didn't want him, nobody wanted to be his friend and we don't even mention love interests. taehyun felt so alone, it feels like he doesn't matter. does he? he really wanted to feel needed by someone- anyone.
taehyun shook his head, it's not the time for this deep shit. he needs to get over it. this is life and life goes on.
he just really hoped something would happen to make his life less miserable and worth living.
