“I have a present for you” Shas said, having returned home after a busy day
“Oh? What have you brought me this time?” Lyse asked, smiling
Shas pulled out a package from his bag, unwrapping it to reveal a beautiful star ruby necklace
Lyse gasped and said “oh my god it’s so beautiful”
“I figured it would go well with your dress”
Lyse threw herself at him, embracing him
“First I hear you have been helping M’naago with the Widows and Orphans fund, and now, you make me another gift!”
“Of course, I said I’d bring you a lot of gifts when we got married!” he replied
“So, how did you make this look so good?” she asked him
“Well you know how the Sultana established a school to train goldsmiths, making me its schoolmaster? Well after we made a tabletop chronometer as a tribute to the Sultana, I asked the students if we could make a tribute to you, as I love you very much. Sure, I could have made it on my own, but what makes it special is common Ala Mhigan citizens helping with it, as I’m sure you’d agree. For all men, all species are created equal, as is the nature of our democracy!”
Happy tears started to well up in Lyse’s eyes as she crashed into him again
“I knew even before the day I married you that you were the one, and you just keep proving it over and over again! I remember when I was young and depressed after losing my family, but you have restored that part of my heart that was lost! Never did I think we’d be standing in a free Ala Mhigo, or a world free of the tyranny of the empire even!”
“Never did you think I would travel to other planets either then? Our newest planet, Auxesia is quite beautiful” Shas said
“Maybe one day, you and I could see the beauty of that planet together” he continued
“I would love to when I’m not too busy, but Is it more beautiful than me?” Lyse teased
“My dear, nothing is more beautiful than your beautiful smile, your ocean eyes, your golden hair, your fierce desire for a better tomorrow. A universe without you is not a universe that is complete” Shas said
Lyse looked touched by that, looking at him lovingly and emotionally, tears making her eyes shine
“That means so much to me, you always mean so much to me. You are my entire universe!” she said, smiling at him
“So, what are you planning to do next?” she asked him
“Well as you know, we have a new ally, Zero. We need to go back to the Thirteenth with her after destroying those voidsent in the mountains of Garlemald, but in the meantime, I’ve been helping establish a base on Auxesia, growing my crafting and gathering skills. I’ve also been learning the ways of Gunbreaker, and I have to say, I’m quite enjoying it”
“What did Thancred have to say about you having the same jacket as him?”
“How did you know about that?!”
“I know everything about you, love” Lyse said, smiling
“Anyway, I told him now I see why he uses that jacket, its very comfortable while also being very protective. We did a simulation of our past trial against Hydaelyn with me as the main tank, and it went pretty well, except for the time Thancred and I shared a tankbuster and Y’shtola was under us”
“That’s unfortunate but kinda funny” Lyse said, laughing
“I teased her about it later, as I do, and she threatened to kick me if I did it again, as we do with our sibling energy”
“Also, how are Karelin and G’raha doing?”
“Well, last I heard, she was planning to propose to him, she just doesn’t know when the right time will be because of the crisis of the Thirteenth and Golbez, which she is needed for in case I have to summon her and our free company while I am in the Thirteenth”
“I remember when you met Karelin and then she became your retainer after Minfilia gave you access to the service of retainers. Seemed like a funny coincidence that your first friend became your first retainer”
“Indeed”
They continued talking for some time about what had been going on, ready to continue dealing with the threat of Golbez and continuing to rebuild Ala Mhigo
