Work Text:

“Are you sure he’ll be okay?” she asked Dr. Robert, who was throwing his rubber gloves in the trash.

“Of course, Mrs. Lebeau.” He got up from his chair to fill out some paperwork on the small table. “I’ll send you the prescription for the painkiller he needs.”

Rogue raised her eyebrows. They had already given Remy a lot of anesthetic, and the poor man was lying back in the chair staring blankly into space. He had resisted going for too long when the pain started; it turned out he hadn’t told anyone for a whole day that he had a toothache in an upper tooth.

He spent almost three days in intense pain while she tried to call Hank to see what painkillers he could prescribe. Of course, taking Remy to a dentist appointment was impossible, and it only got worse every time someone suggested something.

Remy LeBeau’s distrust of doctors was unstoppable.

Everyone in the house had been worried; Logan had even suggested knocking him out to make him stop being so stubborn. But Rogue knew how nervous he was in hospitals and flatly refused. It was only at the beginning of the fourth day that the pain became so intense that they finally had to take him to an appointment.

After he was prescribed medication for the infection at the first appointment, the pain subsided, and her husband assured her that everything was fine. She, however, was waiting to take him to his appointment to have the tooth extracted.

She wouldn't let her swamp rat suffer in pain, no matter how stubborn he was.

“You’re betraying me, mon cœur.” His arms were crossed, and he was drumming his foot on the floor. “I told you I’m perfectly fine.”

“Yes, of course.” She raised an eyebrow. “Don’t think we’re going to leave you in that pain for another minute.”

“Fine, whatever you prefer, but you have to promise me one thing.” His dark eyes looked at her intensely. “If anything happens to me, you have to avenge me.”

She had to suppress a smile. “Nothing’s going to happen to you, Sugah. Dr. Robert has a good reputation.”

“Promise me anyway.”

“Of course, Sug.”

And now back in the present, the great king of the thieves' guild was drugged, chewing on a cotton gauze after dental surgery. Rogue waved a hand in front of her husband's face; he was still staring blankly at the ceiling.

She placed both hands on his shoulders to shake him a little. “Remy, sugar , it’s time to go.” When he didn’t respond, she tried to speak louder. “Remy? It’s time to go, you swamp rat!”

Remy focused on her slowly, blinked twice, and gave a dreamy smile. “Ma colombe!” He threw himself at her to give her a hug. “I missed you so much.”

“It was only forty minutes, Remy.” She steadied him easily, letting him lean his weight on her. She placed her hand on his waist and put his on her shoulder “Time to go home”

She managed to move forward, but he stumbled every two steps. Almost at the reception desk, he started singing a Cajun song as if he were at karaoke. She gave the receptionist a quick smile as she collected her husband's prescriptions.

The moment they stepped through the door and made sure no one was watching, she scooped him up in her arms and carried him up to where they had parked the car. Remy seemed overjoyed in her arms.

“Bite that gauze tight, Sug.” Rogue tried to land gently. “The doctor said you need to bite it for at least another hour.”

He clicked his tongue. “I have more important things on my mind, chérie.” He let her guide him carefully to the car.

“Like what?” She smiled at him. “Besides resting and eating soft foods, what would be so important?” She opened the car door for him, and he sat down awkwardly.

“I’m already doing that, actually.” He returned her loving smile as she got into the driver’s seat. “I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be. By your side.” He brought his hands to Rogue’s face and stroked her chin.

Rogue on the other hand, sighed, pressed her forehead to Remy's and placed her hands in his. "Me too, darling. There's nowhere else I'd rather be."

It would be a long week with Remy recovering, especially the next few hours spent preventing her from saying or doing anything foolish. But this was exactly where she belonged.

This piece was because I have to do an oral surgery soon the first one and I have nerves! I hope you enjoyed it!
